Yay, another year, another simplification of the lineup....o_O:rolleyes:

Having an LCD Plus makes no sense if all others will be OLED.

And they really should go ahead with the 5.2” model.

If you think like the shareholders, you would love the expanding of the product line. OLED screen cost a lot more than LCD screen (at least at this point in the cycle). So it stand to reason that they keep the lcd model around for a lower price point model for customers who don't want to spend on the OLED display. And Apple has a lot of problem selling in the less well off Asian and Eastern European countries. In the more well off countries, user has Ipad, TV etc to watch their video. But in a lot of countries, a customer can only afford one mobile device. And Apple want to make Iphone that single mobile device a customer in those country buy. By expanding their product line up, Apple is hoping to spread out their R&D investment into more device and hence more gross margin per device. It is a good move on the company part if they can generate higher average sales price, higher gross margin and higher revenue witht the move.

Weren't profits and shareholder pleasing the reason Steve Jobs left in the 90's? Then came back to rescue the ailing company by making them product focussed and innovative again? I don't know the full story, that's just what I recall...

They could always just make the LCD phones more modern and not based on the ancient (in phone terms) iPhone 6.

All speculation but like I said before, next year iPhone X and X Plus and an updated LCD (classic) iPhone 9.

I would be interested in a smaller phone not larger.

I’m not upgrading this year because the X is larger than the 6/7/8, which is already backwards in terms of mobile convenience. Why are the MacBook Pros getting lighter and slimmer but not the phone, which is typically carried in much smaller pockets and bags?

If I had to guess, the larger sizes put less pressure on Apple to design smaller components and allow for bigger batteries to power their beefy chips. Essentially it’s a cop-out, and I think it’s the same reason the 7 and 8 also got subsequently heavier than the previous generations.

It’s also incredibly stupid to have a smart watch but then bigger phones to match. Shouldn’t the opposite be happening? Why am I carrying around more crap? The smart phone should be evolving to a net reduction in size and weight as opposed to constantly more.

The 6.46" is the phone I want. But based on pricing it will cost more than $1249 along with $199 with Apple Care+. This is going to be over $1500 with taxes for next years iPhone XI Plus model with Apple Care. Insane!

If Apple would offer the 6.5" OLED iPhone, I would finally switch from Samsung to Apple.

Steve Jobs went off and created the foundation for his comeback and the primary driver for all of Apple’s later success, OS X. It’s still the single most critical product Apple makes today.

He got forced out partly because he was a crazy nut with big ideas, and partly because of his style and personality rubbed the beaurocrats wrong, who had been hired as part of their initial growth spurt. With a little more charm and patience, he might never have left Apple. Though if he hadn’t, likely wouldn’t have had the freedom to make NeXTSTEP, better know today as OS X and iOS.

Aspect ratios make a big difference though.
Very true, but at this rate, won't we end up with a phone that stretches from above our head to our chin? LOL

That's a bit exaggerated, but how far do we really need to go with a large phone?

All for the low low price of 5 Million dollars!

Or 100,000 easy monthly payments of $49.99!

Most people I know don't go for the + and would happily pay the same price for an SE sized new phone, they're either holding on to old 5's 5s or SE's because there is no other choice for an easy to use one-handed option.

An iPhone X with 5.2" screen and similar size to SE would be far more marketable than their large one with unreachable pull-down menus (without a shuffle) - it also would have been a far more fitting 10th anniversary homage to the smaller original, could even be thicker and rounder to cram all the tech in (even a flush camera and gloss plastic back). Apple now follow everyone else rather than doing their own thing though...

You're right in that some people, mostly technophiles, would pay the same for a small iPhone as a medium one. But Americans in general are conditioned to associate bigger with better. Just look at WI cheese. They can't make good cheese like Europeans so instead they make the BIGGEST hunks of cheese in the whole history of the world to show off at state fairs. Same with cars. Americans think the BIGGEST version of a vehicle should cost the most. Hatchbacks are always econoboxes. Giant land barges are the most expensive Caddilacs and Lincolns. Want to be the most manly man? Then buy the BIGGEST truck you can find.

I just want to see whats going to happen in the future when the 10 year is here since they already have the X are they going to skip 9 or have 9 just a tad better that the 8 but the same form.

id love to just have a slightly larger(thickness) and have better cameras and such inside than thinner and edge to edge, a phone around the size of the 8, but thick enough to not have anything protruding(camera). maybe apple should start their own line of eye glasses so people are able to see the phone clearly. if I wanted something i can't hold with one hand, then Id go back to a rotary phone. id love for them to have the 8(or 9 doesn't matter) plus and the 8, have the same insides and camera, but the regular one be thicker to be able to hold the same insides and the plus be thinner and a larger screen, for people with large hands. And I only say that because I doubt we will be getting an update to the 5SE that ever has portrait mode, though I'd take a thicker phone over wider any day just so it's not wider that the wingspan of my fingers, but holding my 6S VS me 5SE is about 35% noticeable that its too wide for my hand. But then again I do have a case on it that I can hold it with my hand in a high five position while running if need be so i really notice it none of the time, but when I need to use it even with making the screen move to one handed use, I wish it could be smaller, so I definitely don't want anything over 5 inches, because 4.7 is enough. The X isn't an option for me as the price point and the edge to edge turns me off completely.

I know, it would be understandable but not on a 6-inch or more screen considering the lineup and the audience for larger phones... it just seems messy.

This falls in line with my theory on them correcting their marketing mess. An LCD iPhone 9 and an Xs version next year followed by Oled only X versions there after. Would tidy up their line and bring the 6-7-8-9 series to a nice clean end.. Would ease my OCD.
