The 5.8” will drop next year to 899$ and the 6.5” plus will take the 999$
that's wishful thinking... when has Apple ever offered a bargain or revert on a price. if people spend 999 and 1149 for the 5.8" X then there is no way Apple will offer a lower price the following year.

LCD Model With Screen Larger Than 6 Inches

7 inches in a 1:1 aspect ratio with rounded screen corners and notches on every edge. :p

Next year: iPhone 8 form gone entirely. Two sizes of 'iPhone X' but now called 'iPhone'. Smaller one same size as this year, larger one is bigger. Apple will have perfected FaceID and/or embedded finger print in display. Will probably see another price rise across the board, but I don't think starting price will be £1000 for smaller model. Maybe something like £850 for small and £950 for large...then farther up for capacities, which will start at 64GB. Available in white, black, gold. 2018 will be the year of the extremely expensive smartphones when the market will really be in a weird place.

Well, that's one prediction.

That's one hell of a muddled rumor.

All Apple need are three models: small, medium, and mega. All OLED. Sell the 8/8+ as cheaper old models.

I'm rather dissapointed they didn't make the X wider so it would be more useful in landscape.

The 5.28 size in an X format could be almost as small as the SE in physical size. I would love that, and it seems a lot of others would from comments on these forums. Don't understand the lack of marketability.

I suspect "marketability" is being used as an euphemism for "profitability." Apple sets prices based on display size and that Face ID sensor array isn't cheap. Touch ID behind the display would likely have been cheap enough to do a small OLED phone but since Apple couldn't perfect it they had to axe the small phone.

That size is essential in Asia. People want that size phone, iPhone X is if anything, too small for the market.

That seems logical to me.

Most people I know don't go for the + and would happily pay the same price for an SE sized new phone, they're either holding on to old 5's 5s or SE's because there is no other choice for an easy to use one-handed option.

An iPhone X with 5.2" screen and similar size to SE would be far more marketable than their large one with unreachable pull-down menus (without a shuffle) - it also would have been a far more fitting 10th anniversary homage to the smaller original, could even be thicker and rounder to cram all the tech in (even a flush camera and gloss plastic back). Apple now follow everyone else rather than doing their own thing though...

Ow! My eyes!

This picture reminds me of the 1970s when people started going from B&W TVs to colour ones - and everyone always had the colour knob cranked up to maximum, because colour.

But why? They already have more than enough half-assed products.

They need to start selling less models, not more.

The good news is... I don't think all of the "classic" iPhones - 6S, 7, 8 - will be around forever.

I think once Apple gets a couple sizes of the "new" X design... the number of models will be reduced.

Yay, another year, another simplification of the lineup....o_O:rolleyes:

Having an LCD Plus makes no sense if all others will be OLED.

And they really should go ahead with the 5.2” model.

"Citing local parts makers, the report said Apple had originally given panel orders to Samsung Display, its sole OLED supplier, under a plan to launch three OLED iPhones next year -- 5.28-, 5.85-, and 6.46-inch models. But the report said the development work for the 5.28-inch model has recently been suspended possibly due to the low marketability of the smaller version."

I can't believe this was ever close to true. What would be the point of it. Maybe 1 cheaper LCD model at that size.

As others have pointed out, a phone with a 5.28" edge-to-edge screen with the same aspect ratio as the the iPhone X would be almost the exact same size as the iPhone SE. Therefore the point would be to continue offering a small form-factor phone.

Apple's lineup of iPhones next year will introduce a larger-screened LCD model, measuring more than 6 inches, according to a report today by The Bell (via The Korea Herald). It's unclear whether this size will be an additional offering to the current LCD iPhone lineup (including 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models), or if it's replacing these sizes completely.

In May we heard the first rumor about Apple's 2018 iPhones, which at the time focused solely on the OLED versions and did not mention the LCD models. This rumor stated that the devices would come in 5.28-inch and 6.46-inch OLED screen sizes. A subsequent report by ETNews suggested that Apple had ditched the small 5.28-inch size and moved to focus on 5.85-inch and 6.46-inch models, and today's report corroborates those claims.

This means that next year Apple could potentially launch the following iPhones: a 5.8-inch OLED model, a 6.46-inch "Plus" OLED model, and at least one LCD model that measures 6 inches (or larger).
The Bell cites local parts makers who claimed that Apple decided to scrap the 5.28-inch model of next year's iPhone "due to the low marketability" of such a small-screened device. Apple is said to have given OLED orders to Samsung Display for the other two sizes.

Apple will continue sourcing 2018's LCD iPhone screens from supplier Japan Display, which already includes panel orders for the new larger screen size. According to industry watchers, Apple's decision to ditch the 5.28-inch iPhone 9 is due to the "popularity of larger-screen phones for video viewing." A 6.46-inch iPhone would be larger than Samsung's 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 8.

In regards to when Apple might switch to OLED-only iPhones, 2019 has been eyed as the year that Apple might finally make that transition.

OK, with a screen that big, there's no excuse for bringing back the headphone jack, right???

I don’t understand why Apple came out with an iPhone 8 at all

And only offer a $1000 iPhone to the consumers for a 2017 release in one size? That would be a horrible business practice. Not everybody will be upgrading to the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 at least serves as an upgrade for those coming from an older model iPhone. Not to mention, the iPhone X Is not for everybody in the sense of affordability, and the iPhone 8 is more affordable and Widely available. The iPhone 8 very much serves it's purpose.

A slightly smaller X would be welcomed for easier one handed use definitely!

Because they certainly wouldn't be able to produce enough X's to meet demand.

They're already struggling to mass produce the X quickly and efficiently and pre-orders haven't even started yet...just think If it was the only offering.

nope, thats the business working, 999$ today is because the 8 and 8 plus exist. Next year i dont think we will see again another 9 and 9 plus...so 888$ and 999$ for 64 gb
