I went for the beats x. Same w1 chip and many of the advantages plus I can wear them around my neck as they join magnetically without a case or pocket or bag needed to keep them on me. Like many the apple shape doesn't work in my ears and prefer a sealed in ear. The wire between the phones is in my opinion a feature. I think for most the AirPods on the other hand represent the cutting edge of tech that removes wires and gives up no features apart from potential loss of earbuds.

Hahaha! Amazing this is here today. Over the weekend my girlfriend told me someone at her office came in with really strange headphones. I right away asked... Were they white with a little (but still big) sticks? And wireless. She said Yes.

I told her, it was the new airpods... Her only reply was "they stupid looking" I didnt even get to tell her the price. Why beat a dead horse

Sure they all said 10... They just over compensating.

She doesn't reflect well on you. You should get rid of her unless you want people to laugh about you.

Exactly. And that post is a prime example of why the results of the survey are what they are. As another poster put it, these were largely purchased by die hard Apple fans who have a willingness to overlook basic features that don't work 100% of the time.

For $200, the sound should be amazing, the fit should be amazing and there should be no "auto connectivity issues".

Lol, ok dude.

My only complaint is that they don't come in matte black as an option. Other than that, they're fantastic. So many nice little Apple touches i.e. ease of pairing, battery % for case and buds pops up on your phone, the nice click of the case lid, the magnitized bottom that won't let the buds fall out even upside down and shaking them, and how the music stops and starts when you pull a bud out or put it back in. For a 1st Gen device, in my opinion, they knocked it out of the park.

Don't you think "auto connectivity issues" are a deal breaker when you just want to listen to something? What happened to "it just works"?
You remove them from your ears, put them back in, and like magic they start working again.

Most people have better things to be upset about than occasionally having to take two seconds out of their day for their headphones.

Make a combination of the Beats X one-piece design and the EarPods shape and I'm sold. But right now, I'm not interested in having two, unconnected earphones.

People rate Beats by Dre 5/5 because they either don't care about sound quality, listen to 64kbit Spotify streams or value design over functionality. Not a single, serious HiFi magazine rated these things above average, if not worse.

Yes, because all "serious HiFi" magazines get commission from Sennheiser and the like in order to promote their goods! But they get zero of course from Apple! If you have AirPods and Beats headphones you actually don't need anything else for music enjoyment, but "HiFi magazines" DO NOT want you to know about it because if you knew they would close their business in the blink of an eye!! Cheers...

Or we will looking back wondering how stupid we were not realize we were giving ourselves brain tumors blasting EMFs into our brains from inside our ears. Do some research.

I haven't seen one yet nor seen anybody using it. I was at the Apple Store the other day and didn't noticed anybody having one dangling on their ear. The only thing I noticed from the store that day Apple Store employees using radio. Talking about how advance their technology and they still using radio.

Yes... because the instant transmission of a radio to everyone else on the channel is sooooo much less efficient than demonstrating their product with the process of calling a single individual, waiting for the call to connect, and then possibly repeating that process more than once to finally find the right person that has the answer they need.

People that pretend to be serious HiFi junkies continue regurgitating nearly decades-old forum statements they saw on phandroid blogs. Yet actual audiophiles have known that the Beats Solo2 are among the best on-ear sealed headphones you can buy, still, almost 3 years after release. They're on Tyll's Wall of Fame still at Inner Fidelity. And he's one of the 3 biggest names in the serious audiophile world. Head-Fi loves them, Part Time Audiophile loves them too.

Contemplating investing in these at least for my wife; I have a pair of Sony over the head Bluetooth headphones that have worked well for about 2 years now, but these might not be a bad idea as an option.

Yep, I never understood that complaint. After years of wires dangling from each ear down to our pockets, we're supposed to think that…

How do you not understand the long tubes are a continuation of the wires and they blend in together, then you chop the wires off and leave the goofy tubes? There was really no thought put into these. Just "make 'em wireless." In the literal sense of the word.

Honestly, this sounds like someone who doesn't have much testing experience with no-wire BT buds. I detest the AirPods look. You are correct it's goofy.

But the sticks improve sound quality when talking on the phone. My other similar buds are unusable for that purpose which makes them unusable to me. I'm sure Apple will improve the look as it improves the technology but functionally AirPods do what they are suppose to do and it's stupid look is a compromise -- though I'm sure plenty of people like the look because they think it's status. I'm not one of those people. Personally I'm initially embarrassed but then I forget I have them in -- often wondering why people are looking at me so oddly. Then it comes to me... oh, right.

Does anyone think they'll come out with black airpods?

It's my fervent hope. I love the AirPods but hate, hate, hate, the white. Black would be great. Grey, navy, dark green, all better than white IMHO. Guessing white is the easiest color to produce though. So maybe once Apple gets production where it should be.

My only complaints are lack of the silicone tips as I find they are not that comfortable in my ears after extended amount of listening. I would like to have volume control gesture rather than use my phone as asking siri, requires internet connection, and requires pausing the music, which in itself is rather bizarre as it over complicates an issue. Despite all this, I have really stopped using my 3.5 mm Bose earbuds and I am really one of those burn Tim at the stake crowd for their treasonous "courage".

While I still disagree as the port serves more than one purpose and I do miss the comfort of the Bose more, the wireless aspect of AirPods is really awesome!

Interesting survey. They carefully ask about all the good aspects of the AirPods without seeming to ask about clumsy interactions and general Siri frustrations. The double-tap to get Siri is very fiddly and I usually have to tap repeatedly to get her. Since that means I'm tapping away on my own eardrums, I've pretty much stopped trying. If I need Siri, I hold the button on my iPhone. Taking a call is annoying because it's finicky trying to hang up. Generally I hope the other called simply hangs up first. Lots of small annoyances. At least half the time I just use the white wires instead.

This is what has been holding me back. I have some LG around the neck BT headphones. I use the built-in volume, previous/next, answer/hang up buttons all the time. I can't imagine having to do all of this through Siri. And what about when you are offline?

I've had a pair since launch day and can say that I use them daily and haven't had any issues to this point. Once they updated the firmware, the charge holds and have been 100% satisfied. Well worth not dealing with cables for me. Call quality is better than just talking on my iPhone.

People used to think radiation was good for you. They drank radon water and used uranium blankets, because "nothing had been proven by science". If you think EMF and RF microwaves are good for you, then I guess you'll be personally providing that proof you seek.

Yes, the missing cord is the difference between looking like headphones and walking around like you forgot to take Q-Tips out of your ears.

Justify it all you like, but people look funny with them on.

Maybe if they weren't white that wouldn't be the case...

That said, the tech is impressive and Apple did a good job here for the most part (except fo the design and not having soft-tips to fit every kind of ear hole), although I saying it's "iPod/iPhone-level good" is a bit much in my opinion.

But those of you that like them, ignore the giggles around you and enjoy.

Because that's a matter of opinion stated as fact. I'm of the opinion that long wires are far more distracting than a couple of stalks regardless of how well the long wires "blend."
…then you chop the wires off and leave the goofy tubes? There was really no thought put into these. Just "make 'em wireless." In the literal sense of the word.
Do you honestly believe that the company often praised for its industrial design put no thought into the "goofy tubes" that enable use of beam-forming mics, excellent reception, a shape that allows for a smaller case, and earned them a 98% satisfaction rate? Outstanding.

I like the AirPods look. Your opinion is not fact.

There was a ton of thought put into these. If you you were an engineer, much better an EE, you would get it.

Without the benefit of that education, you won't.

This is so overused, and not true in practice. I have worn them to the gym several times a week for months. I never get any looks or comments. I don't understand why anyone is so self conscious and worried about others thoughts, rather than just enjoying them.
