Does anyone else make a competing product that does what the AirPower is supposed to do? A charging mat that supports an iPhone 8/X, AirPods (using the wireless case), and an Apple Watch all at once? And works no matter where or in what order you place the items on the mat relative to the other items?

I suspect AirPower will use some sort of proprietary software to allow it to charge all 3 devices at once. An Apple Watch dock out there is already so costly, I think a similar third party dock would cost way more.

Genuinely don’t think this is going to cost more than $100, but I await correction upon release. There’s no other chargers costing even close to $199 at the moment. Ikea has one that does 3 devices for £60 in th UK so I can’t see it being that much more

Agreed. Don’t understand why $200 is the mainstream speculation. Maybe Apple started the rumor so $99 would seem like a bargain at launch, haha.

WTH? $200? It's like i'm in the twilight zone.
[doublepost=1519438142][/doublepost]Apple will charge you $200 for the mat but will come w/ a slow 7.5W plug. You'll need to fork out $50 for the faster plug. I should work at Apple.

No, apparently not an Apple-induced overpricing fake out in play here. Per the link in the last paragraph of the article, there was a listing last November on Polish online retailer X-Kom's website for 999 Złotych.

Since there’s no reason to think X-Kom would have advanced information on Apple’s pricing so far ahead of actual availability, the speculation that 999 was a “placeholder” price seems rather plausible.

I think $99-$119 is a decent guesstimate. $99 wouldn’t surprise me; after all, Airpods are only $159.

I posted a link of an Ikea charger that supports 3 smartphones and costs $60
And my Belkin Qi charger costs about $40, so I could buy 5 of those at the price of one AirPower if that was the price.
Because of coarse a cheapo charger without added technology into it is exactly the same as apples airpower

I just can’t justify the likely price point for the AirPower around $200, unless you have all three devices with the wireless charging AirPod battery case, Series 3 Apple Watch and iPhone X/8, then perhaps. I would imagine the price point will start somewhere around the $200 mark.

However if somebody just had an iPhone 8 or X, then there are other suitable wireless charging docks on the market for a cheaper price point.

Exactly. Basically to use this $200 piece of hardware, you need to already own an 8/X and have or upgrade to an S3 and buy or upgrade your AirPods.

Just no.

They can keep AirPower, since it will most likely be a lot more expensive than all the other chargers out there.

But for crying out loud, give us the wireless charging case for the AirPods!
I‘m still holding out on buying them because of this. The „Hey Siri“-update isn’t as important to me, but having switched to wireless charging with my iPhone, I just don’t see the point in getting wired-charging wireless headphones.

i've done this for months now and works amazingly well. it's not half as crappy looking as you think if you choose a good case. i literally spent less than $5 on it.

Sorry if already mentioned but can this charge two iPhones at the same time?
I have not come across an article or photo of this yet

Maybe not right now, but eventually you will own an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods which do support wireless charging. Nobody is forcing you to buy it right now, but change has to start somewhere.

More of a press release like last year.

I would like to see more health features such as blood pressure, sleep tracking and so on i think that would be great.
I’d like to see a sleep tracker, but it is pointless with a battery that lasts less than a day.

An Apple Watch typically lasts at least 36 hours for me. Enough to go 2 days before I leave it to charge for the night. You can easily find time during to charge the watch, such as when you are showering or washing up.

I use a sleep tracker on my Apple Watch 3. I just charge it for a short while in the morning or evening. If I don’t get round to it it doesn’t matter, as the watch goes a full two days and nights, including using workouts for about an hour a day.

Having a gen1 watch myself, I really thought that Apple would stay clear of these little games of compatability. This is why my gen1 watch will be my last, I don’t trust them on the wearables any longer. I will go back to my tissot, and buy myself the Rolex I have always wanted.

If change wanted to start, then it should have started when the 8 and S3 were released. That would have provided a bigger incentive to buy AirPower.

I just hope it can charge more than one iPhone at a time. That would be ideal for family’s.

I would think it can do more than one iPhone but guess we don’t know for sure.

199 bucks for wireless charging. for nothing than a little bit more comfort? this is crazy. you can have a honeymoon weekend with your wife... or buy her nice airpods if you are already in an apple shop.

That’s how Apple is though. They announce things way in advance. The Apple Watch was first announced in September 2014, but launched in April 2015, the HomePod was announced June 2017, but launched in February 2018, and then the Airpower was announced in September 2017, and reportedly will launch in March 2018.

This isn't the Apple of old - who usually announced a week or two before release at most. Its only been the Cook era where its the norm.
