I ordered my MBP today, I was tired of waiting. If the promotion comes up in the next 14 days then I get the itouch free from what the rep said.

Really? A rep online/over the phone or in the store?

Did they say you'd have to return the MBP and buy a new one?

Does the Apple Store stock the printers too? So when you buy it you get a code and enter it online for a rebate?

I stopped by the Apple store today.

Rep confirmed that it is around this time that they usually release it but that he had no idea when it would be. He agreed with me when I said I think it would be soon.

I asked him about the scenario where I buy it today and then the sale starts sometime within the next 14 days. Since Apple has a 14 day return policy, I could come in, return it, and buy a new one for the promotion.

But since it would be obviously easier for all parties to just give me the rebate if that happened (I wouldn't have to setup everything again and Apple wouldn't have an used laptop on their hands), I asked if I could just do that.

He checked with a manager and he said that wouldn't be possible since I have to actually purchase the iPod Touch and the printer and all 3 (MBP, iPod Touch, printer) have to be on the same transaction).

This is my first MacBook so I thought about just buying one and not going hardcore into it, just fool around so I can get familiar with the OS (and take the risk that the sale would start within 14 days).

That thought went away, however, when the rep said I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the 12 month 0% financing if I did that. That deal only works on the first purchase you make with the Barclay's card. So if I bought a MBP today, returned it when the sale started, and bought a new one, that new one would have an insane interest amount.

Fingers crossed for the sale to start tomorrow.

When the BTS promotion starts, would it be more convenient to simply go to the Apple store to avoid the shipping cost and to get the MBP immediately? Would the educational discount, free iPod Touch, and printer still be applied? What are the benefits of purchasing it online?

Apple.com has free shipping on orders over $50. The benefits of purchasing it online are convenience and the ability to customize your computer. The benefit of buying in the store is that you get it immediately and don't have to wait for shipping. All discounts/promos will work in the store too.

Wow, tax is quite a bit for you. I'm waiting for the BTS promotion so I can go with this setup (education pricing):

13" Macbook Pro 320gb $1099.99
8gb iPod Touch $229.99
Ship $0.0
Tax $65.07
Total = $1393.07 - $199 discount (since I'm not sure either if they'll increase the discount to cover the full price of the iPod touch) = $1194.07

hey guys, would you rather wait for the bts promo and pay for that price or actually buy a refurbished one for last year? the price seems to be similar (i'm talking about mbp)

i mean yeah the new one has a better processor being i5, but the older one has better graphic (i know some of you would argue that intel 3000 is better than the nvidia)

Well since I don't do anything graphically intensive except occasional After Effects work during my free time, I'd rather have the newer on with the faster processor. I don't play games on my computers. Ever. That's what my 360 is for.

In Germany we say: Anticipation is the best fun.

How boring just going to best buy and buy one...

WTF? Back to school?? Kids are barely getting out this month.

As a parent I can say I wish school was continuous, all year long! :D

I agree. Beneath our newest TV sits an X-Box 360, Playstation 3, and a Nintendo WII.

Yes, they all actually get used by different people.

Computers are tools of productivity.

Only in us??

Back to school promo week is available only in US?? or in other country too??

Thanks for answer
