When the BTS promotion starts, would it be more convenient to simply go to the Apple store to avoid the shipping cost and to get the MBP immediately? Would the educational discount, free iPod Touch, and printer still be applied? What are the benefits of purchasing it online?
Don't you avoid the shipping costs with purchases over $50 anyway?? I prefer buying my products online, that way I can have my iPod engraved :)

Any chance that Apple is delaying the BTS sale so that consumers who take advantage of it will be within a two-week window of Lion release and be eligible for a discounted update? Is Lion expected to be released in June or July? Seems strange that Apple would offer the BTS computers with Snow Leopard installed and then come out with a new OS two weeks later making the consumers pay extra for it. Makes good business sense but somehow I feel that Apple cares more for their customers than that. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you purchase a MBP online you will get free shipping. Also, if you chose to go in store and claim your HE discount, you will not receive the 3 year warranty that you get online/over the phone. As far as I know, it is only available if you purchase through your University's online link or over the phone.. so kind of makes sense to do it that way. The B2S offer will still be offered in store, but obviously you'll miss out on the 3 year warranty and you'll have to suffer them trying to sell you discounted phone help instead.

Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure all computers qualify.

The BTS promo finished only a couple months ago here in Australia (our school year is February to December, so the promo starts at the end of each year). I got an 11" MBA while the promo was still running, and in the terms and conditions they have on pamphlets in-store (as well as what the salespeople told me), it is the one Mac that is not included in the promo. The 13" MBA, however, is included.

Really? sucks to be outside the UK then on this one then, huh!

Yes, the UK is fortunate to have a very good student discount (~14% and a free warranty if purchased online/phone). It's to do with national contracts, details in the link I posted above if you really want to know.

Off the top of my head, US students get between around fifty and a couple of hundred dollars off Macs (depending on the price) and a discount on AppleCare.

Why does Apple limit this deal to college students? I would think if they would allow middle and high school students into it they could lure them into the fold at a younger age. Maybe they need to hire some former marketing execs from the tobacco companies.

I know my daughter who is going into MS next year wants a Macbook (she just likes the look) and it would be nice if I could get a discount. Have you ever seen the discounts Adobe gives students? A kid in kindergarden can get 80% off the full development suite. So a kid that can't read is going to be coding websites?????

Cheers for the link mate, I'm from the UK so really helps to have a definite confirmation. I will be purchasing a MBP online with the B2S offers, so it needs to hurry up and come online!

b2s promo + student discount?

Went down to my apple store yesterday (Cardiff, UK that is) and i was told that you can't have the student discount and the b2s promotion together, but no one seems to have raised it as a concern so far... are we able to take advantage of both promotions at the same time?

why isn't the b2s promotion on yet?!

My 6 years old mbp wants to retire.

I'm sure you can, this is a quote from Apple on last year's B2S offer;

Apple said:
If you’re a college or university student, teacher or education professional, you can use your Apple education discount to buy a qualifying Mac before 7 September, 2010, and get a rebate of up to £130 on an iPod. No wonder they call these the best years of your life

Happy days! :)

The guy in blue was implying that I could only get one discount or the other, I almost took my wallet out but I thought I'd check.

C'mon Apple, c'mon!

I got both when I purchased my MacBook in the UK in summer 2009. I think they were telling you rubbish. The point of the deal is for Apple to clear out old iPods, and the student discount is worth more than an iPod, so nobody would get the free iPod if you couldn't do both!

If you are a UK university student you should be able to get a free 3 year warranty online or over the phone, but NOT in store. Consider that when buying. Details.

I think there's a sense of confusion even amongst Apple's employees on what you actually CAN/CAN'T qualify for. As far as I know you qualify for both and a quick search on this forum shows plenty of people got both last year :)

He shouldn't really have been talking to you about B2S at all, seeing as it hasn't even been announced yet.. naughty apple man!

I've a question, do you know if when you buy an MBP, you can get the discount on the iPad?
That would be awesome.

Not sure about in store but online, you can only get the B2S promotion if you order from the college/he store, therefore automatically getting the student discount as well. The person you spoke to obviously doesn't have a clue.

It appears it is going to remain just a rumour.

I can't wait any longer, I need a new laptop for when I commence my new course next week.

I will have to order by tomorrow in order to receive it in time.

This B2S special would have sweetened the deal, but hey, that's life.

Apple is planning on launching their annual Back to School promotion on Tuesday, June 3rd. Last year, Apple offered a free iPod Nano ($199 value) or a $199 credit against a more expensive iPod for eligible customers. The iPhone was specifically excluded from this promotion last year. The promo was available only to college students purchasing a qualifying (MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro).

above is article from 2008...so maybe next tuesday? ugh..i even returned mine back for this promo..

I found a better deal on Amazon for what I was looking for. Even with $200 back for the ipod (after 4-6 weeks) so, my situation worked out better then just waiting for Apple.. I suggest everyone look around at 3rd parties and compare prices! :D

should i buy Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz ->4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM 250GB NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory Intel Core 2 Duo)

or the new13-inch: 2.3 GHzdual-core Intel Core i5 4GB 1333MHz 320GB 5400-rpm1 Intel HD Graphics 3000

in terms of spec?i don't think there's much of a difference other than graphics right?

Just received this email back from my school's bookstore:

"We are definitely having a back-to-school promotion. Just waiting for Apple to let us know what it will be, most likely a free iPod Touch. We expect this to be announced the first week of June."
