...which was kinda my entire point and not really contradicted by a picture of the side of an iMac...No, there are not a lot of precedents of white bezels PLUS a colored front
All I wanted was to see some "real world" photos of the new iMac, but presumably as today's event was virtual only, there's not even a bunch of journalists with hands-on pics...
You have omitted an important part of my quote...which was kinda my entire point and not really contradicted by a picture of the side of an iMac...
I was using the Apple ][+ in junior high so I know how you feel.It makes me feel old that there are people who don't know apple used to sell colorful computers. I was using these and the colorful iBooks in elementary school
I feel like we will get a better idea of how these iMacs really look in the real world then. There will be a huge amount of reviews of the new iMacs with plenty of photos. Probably have to wait until reviewers can get their hands on them, but before long we will be swinging in reviews and pictures.
I now fully expect a “pro” model will follow with that option. The color options are fine, but why not also provide options for the very popular Space Gray color? More of a laptop guy personally, so I really hope they don't make this move across all their lines.
Probably saving that for the more powerful editionThe color options are fine, but why not also provide options for the very popular Space Gray color? More of a laptop guy personally, so I really hope they don't make this move across all their lines.
Mainly to give space for the speakers, by the look of it - but, yeah, it's all driven by the bizarre desire to make a desktop ridiculously thin.2. What's up with the chin? They had a few alt choices here that would have been better.
That goofy integrated port is sheer brilliance for those who actually need the iMac wired instead of wireless. No more hanging an ethernet cable off the back onto a desk and down the side of the desk to the jack in the office. BAM, a one meter cable that lies on the floor. Need to take the iMac for service or move people, leave the power brick and move the iMac only. It's passing Ethernet, as well, with that goofy integrated port on the power brick.
And all of them have a chin (if you consider the G4's base a chinAll iMacs except the Intel model have had white bezels. So there's actually a *lot* of precedent.

I was hoping for the rumored 32" display, if not another 27' display with the M1X chip. Instead we got a limited choice of just one size, the horrible chin that now really bugs me (without the Apple logo)and a god forsaken white bezel. Apple, you're on a streak! You have disappointed consistently for over a decade now.
Apple today unveiled the new iMac models in seven bright, colorful shades including Blue, Green, Pink, Silver, Orange, Yellow, and Purple, and Apple is including a whole series of matching accessories for each machine.

More expensive iMac models come with a color matched Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, power cord, and USB-C to Lightning Cable. Lower-end models feature the same accessories with the exception of the Touch ID Magic Keyboard, though an upgrade is available.

The Magic Keyboard features an aluminum base in the same color as the iMac with white keys, while the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are equipped with a matching colored aluminum base. Both the Lightning cable and the power cord feature a braided design in the matching color, with the power cord also sporting a matching aluminum magnetic connector.

Right now, these color matched accessories are exclusive to the iMac. Apple is not selling the colorful Magic Keyboard with Touch ID or the color Magic Mouse options on a standalone basis.

Pricing on the iMac starts at $1299, and it will be available for preorder on April 30.

If I look at this picture I think the white bezel looks best, especially because of the light color of the housing. It feels fresher and lighter which I think is good for an entry level computer. That said I think a black bezel will look great on a space grey or hopefully graphite or black model.

If I didn’t have recent computing and phone equipment, I would totally be talking myself into a new purple iMac and 12 mini. Can't decide if I like the look of these, or if they look like kids toys.
Exactly this, and a look at the iPod nano design over the years (as well as certain elements of the original brightly-colored iMacs) illustrates exactly this calculus. Apple also has some of the best color stylists in the industry, and they know the spring/summer colors this year are going to be brighter generally than any we have seen in a very long time.Exactly, the colors Apple chose wouldn't work with black bezels. They were going for a lighter airy feel. You don’t think they tried black? Somebody photoshop it and see for yourselves. And i am someone who hated the white bezels on iPhones. The loud mouths are tech nerds who don’t have a clue about design or color
Yes, and I expect the pro and higher end models will have more a subtle professional look, and will most likely have black bezels. Whereas these are general consumer mass market iMacs. They will sell great too.Exactly this, and a look at the iPod nano design over the years (as well as certain elements of the original brightly-colored iMacs) illustrates exactly this calculus. Finally, Apple cares about how their product line colors work with each other, and a dark gray iMac with a black bezel would have stood out like a sore thumb with yesterday's offerings. We'll probably see one in the future, but yesterday wouldn't have been a good time to include such a model.
Like the iMac graphite SE models of old.Yes, and I expect the pro and higher end models will have more a subtle professional look, and will most likely have black bezels. Whereas these are general consumer mass market iMacs. They will sell great too.
It would have been really nice if the iMac was powered via a USB-C so that the Power brick also could have a Thunderbolt port so a big disk drive could be attached off desk.I wasn't expecting the proprietary magnetic power adapter and also the removal of ethernet as a standard port on the base model! But they look sweet other than that. The VESA models are up too: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/imac-vesa
I bought one of those tangerine iMac in 1998 (?) for £999 in Sctoland. It was a game changer for me.Yeah but those colors were super cool:

It’s not fine at all! I have to recharge my Logitech Pro only every few weeks, I don’t want to plug it in daily! And while it’s charging (which obviously takes longer than a few minutes) I can still use it.
I would constantly forget to charge the newer model at night, so I had to plug it in in the middle of the day and, like you wrote, do something else in the meantime or plug in a corded mouse.
If you charge it fully, the Apple mouse only needs to be charged about once a month. What's your point? The Logitech needs to be charged only every few WEEKS (if you turn the LEDs off), can be used while charging and, why not, can be used as a corded mouse.
