I have a MacBook Pro with the M1 chip and 16 GB of RAM. So from what I understand, this iMac would not be any faster than my laptop?
Depends on what you do.

Think about it this way, The M1BP is faster than the M1BA because it has better cooling, and the iMac is faster than the M1BP because it has better cooling. But only if you are doing things that cause the computer to heat up.

For regular stuff, just consider the iMac to be a desktop version of your M1BP.

the missing Apple Logo bothers me as well. Makes the chin stand out even more for some reason.

Imagine if the next color matching MacBook Pro comes with a white bezel too 🤢
I could see the next redesign of the MacBook Air going with colors and white bezels, whereas the MacBook Pros and bigger iMac (which I imagine will be called iMac Pro) will stick with black bezels, and the iMac might have a thicker chassis, move the internal behind the panel and forgo the chin, or minimize it.

I do agree the chin without logo is a bit jarring.

I’ve had terrible experience with the 2020 Intel iMac. I was waiting for the M1 in the hopes that it would be great.
Sadly, no 27” option, and integrated memory and small storage? That’s definitely NOT great.
Integrated RAM is hugely expensive and limiting.
Maybe I’ll try the i9 iMac option, because the i7 has. Even totally unstable.
I have a 2020 iMac too and it is terrible. But the new one is even worse for the design.

If you are tripping over your iMac cord, you have bigger issues than a backup battery.
like what? I figured they put magsafe on the cord because they think it might be in places where people could trip over it.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong. I guess it might be there because the thing is so thin they couldn't do a more standard type of plug.

How is it fine? I can charge AND use my Logitech Pro mouse at the same time. How am I supposed to do that with the Magic Mouse?

1. lightning cables fray easily. using magic mouse with lightning cable plugged in on the front will break it.

2. if magic mouse has be a wired mouse for X amount of time, that's not really better than the magic mouse 1 where you just spend 1-2 minutes swapping out batteries to keep the 100% wireless experience. might as well swap batteries.

3. the charging lightning cable material causes too much friction (and you have to make sure to straighten it out or else you get looped slack), making the wired experience much worse.

4. most existing lightning cables are too short to allow magic mouse to move comfortably when connected to an iMac

5. Plugging it in for 2 minutes recharges enough battery for the whole day. This is still better than the Magic Mouse 1 where you spend 2 minutes swapping batteries. Except, you have 2 minutes of free time to grab a coffee or go to the bathroom.

6. 80 year olds might think a front charging port means it's a wired mouse and leave it plugged in the entire time.

These truly are hideous colors for a desktop computer. I know it’s superficial of me, but I just can’t see having that on my desk.
So you don't like the classic Apple silver they still have available? ;)

Seriously though, I like the silver and green, but that's it. I HATE ALL the other colors, and the front-to-back shade inconsistency.

Full size keyboard is an option and is Touch ID only, they mentioned it in the Keynote
I missed that part. But glad it is the case, and yeah... I've tried Touch ID on a MacBook Air and it got me interested.

How is it "fine" when you can't use the mouse with the charging cable built in?

Putting the socket where the wire would be on a wired mouse so you can recharge it "on the go" is just a no-brainer. How "courageous" to ignore that (well, I suspect it was actually a case of every expense being spared when re-designing the original Magic Mouse to be rechargeable...)

See my earlier post to someone else asking the same question:

It is not a no-brainer if you consider the materials used in the existing lightning charging cables. Fun exercise: grab your Apple lightning charging cable and grab the Apple lightning EarPods if you have them and compare the materials. One is meant for stationary charging and the other is meant for jogging. Charging lightning cables will fray if used on a moving device. This is why magic keyboard and Magic Trackpad have front charging ports.

Because it’s a WIRELESS mouse! Its supposed to be used wirelessly. If Apple intended it to be used when connected then no doubt the lightning port would be on the side near the front and it wouldn’t describe itself as wireless!

And it only takes a few minutes to charge if the battery is flat or nearly so - perfect time to grab a coffee or go to the loo or do some stretches!
So, your saying that it should be battery powered. It is wireless but you still have to charge it.

This is probably a "no" but can you purchase 2 iMacs and use one solely as a monitor. Every monitor in the world is going to look odd paired with this...

I never said that. Stop putting words into my mouth. What I'm trying to say is that Apple can get deep into colors. You can't assume someone is new to apple because you can't really understand what they are saying.
Dude calm down. Your words were paraphrased. I'm not throwing words in your mouth. Furthermore if you noticed multiple people stated the same thing I did, so don't get mad for my response, it's the same as everyone else. And it's still true, you are new to Apple because the new iMacs were obviously designed to bring back the old nostalgic look from Apple's long past.
