That chin REALLY bothers me. Honestly, I was expecting something like a big iPad Pro. I would prefer it if it was half an inch thicker or even more but without that unbalanced lower part.
While I wish it wasn't there (I've ALWAYS wanted it gone since the iMac G5), I find the chin to almost be iconic. There's no mistaking this for anything other than an iMac, although I wish the Apple logo was there.

And now a horrible thing from the first Mac Mini generation is back: a power brick!!! In which you have to plug the Ethernet cable in!
I also find the power brick brilliant... the Ethernet plug on it means one less cable cluttering a desktop.

It’s the first disappointing Apple launch for me since the trash can Mac Pro.
So you were cool with soldered RAM, soldered SSDs, butterfly keyboards, single port on MacBook, single port type on MBPs, the TouchBar (2016), the new Mac Pro price, the new Mac Pro wheels, and the $1K stand (2019)?

I’ve still been with Apple for 7 years. That’s when I got an iMac and a MacBook.
I gotcha but you were originally saying that you didn't understand where Apple came up with suddenly making the iMacs in colors. 7 years in the computing world isn't very long. I've been with Apple well over 20 years, since MacOS 8. I've been around when the MacBooks were called iBooks and they were also in rainbow colors.

the missing Apple Logo bothers me as well. Makes the chin stand out even more for some reason.

Imagine if the next color matching MacBook Pro comes with a white bezel too 🤢
Does it bother you on the MAcBooks? I mean, they say MacBook Pro but there is no Apple facing you, only on the lid which faces away
I'm pretty jazzed up about the colors. It looks like a good spiritual successor for the g3 iMacs, which were never powerful machines to begin with. They were simple, small, and pretty much impossible to upgrade anyway.

It's kinda funny that the iPad Pro has the same processor.

I do agree, the lack of Apple logo on the front seems like a weird omission. Honestly it gave me HP monitor vibes.

Also the color matched mouse/keyboard/trackpad. WOWWWWW!!! I'M IN LOVE! I'm super jazzed about that. It means we'll finally get peripherals and stuff in COLORS again. I'm so sick of the modern classical grey everywhere.
you could upgrade memory on those.

You could crack them open and replace the HD.

And you could overclock them with a simple soldering iron with a pointed tip.

Utterly disappointing iMac in my opinion. Design-wise, I like the look of the old one better. No idea what the point of focusing on all these ridiculously ugly colors were. The bezel around it looks horrific. Really hoping the next wave of Apple Silicon Macs are targeted towards power users, and can be easily upgradeable in some form like the RAM/SSD. Everything else at the event was great, but this monstrosity of an Apple desktop computer should have never been released with that design.
They seriously ruined the design of the iMac. The only thing that I could think of for them to do is to only be able to change the colors on the iMac. Nothing else. But they had to change a lot more.

I never though Apple would get so deep into color.
Apple has ALWAYS had an array of colorful products. I am stunned so many people just don't know this.

Just following up my last post, these are the configurable options for the 7 core GPU version:

  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID
  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad
  • Magic Trackpad
  • 16GB unified memory
  • 512GB or 1TB SSD
  • Gigabit Ethernet
And for the 8 core GPU version:

  • Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad
  • Magic Trackpad
  • 16GB unified memory
  • 512GB, 1TB or 2TB SSD
No prices for these options anywhere that I can see though.

Sorry Apple, but those white bezels just look like they don't belong there. Something's not right with Apple here - I'm sure the decision makers at Apple had a lot of different design options to choose from, but why this?

Cool you're paying tribute to the old iMac G3 and 'hello' campaign from 1998, but some things from the 90ies better stay in the 90ies. Like R Kelly came out with "I'm your Angel" in 1998 and clearly he wasn't.

What I do like is that they are bringing some of the unique things back that I used to love about the mac; Magsafe etc.

Hope a 27-32 inch iMac will be launched in more subtle colors...and without the white bezel. Silver with black bezel would work better I think.

Imagine if the next color matching MacBook Pro comes with a white bezel too 🤢
Personally I don't think the forthcoming Pro models will come in these crazy colors or have white bezels. I think this is to separate the consumer line from the Pro line just like they did years ago. The Powerbook G4's were titanium and aluminum and the iBooks rainbow colored and later models were white.

Then you plug it back in and turn it on?
you lose all your work. should have battery backup. enough time to power down or plug back in.

but ok i guess in this day and age a lot of data is sent to the cloud or saved in almost real time.

I never said that. Stop putting words into my mouth. What I'm trying to say is that Apple can get deep into colors. You can't assume someone is new to apple because you can't really understand what they are saying.

Sorry, but to me, different colored iMacs is something no one asked for.
I take no issue with this statement since you're referring to yourself when you said "to me" before "no one". ;)

I came into the Apple fold when colors were a thing and I think it's about damn time we got something other than beige... I mean black... I mean silver boxes.

I love colors, even if I don't like these colors except for the green and silver ones.

White bezels awful, missing apple logo from the chin, still cannot tilt the screen left and right. Happy I got a latest gen intel iMac after all.
