Oh yeah, that, and I'll bet not one in 50 people posting in this thread own one of the 2018 iPad Pro models...

The macrumors community isn’t that big. We are a very small niche of tech nerds. Within this small group of tech nerds, I’ve seen about 10-12 pictures of slightly bent iPad’s. I don’t know if that means it’s a widespread issue or not.

Apple execs are beginning to sound and act like a bunch of crackheads.
Profits = crack.

Respectfully, you need glasses if you think that gap is the thickness of 4 sheets of paper. It's obviously a wider gap than the tolerances quoted by Apple.

It's also a terrible pic because the camera bump is lifting it off the table.

Apple made a mistake, the new iPad pro is too fragile. But, the new Apple will never acknowledge it because only the Original Apple(Jobs) makes mistakes, the new Apple(Ive) never ever makes mistakes.

The issue is that we don't know that it doesn't affect functionality. For example, stresses on the display panel can cause various issues, many easily visually observable. Apple says it won't get worse - do we know that, only a month or so after launch? You may be right, but we do not know this.

And you actually think that Apple would open themselves up to enormous liability by flat-out confirming it won't cause any issues, but not actually being sure of it?

This response is just pure corporate stupidity, on par with US automakers in the 70’s thru 90’s when obvious fit and appearance flaws were a lot more common on US cars than on foreign ones. One of the US Auto’s replies was that there was nothing wrong with the cars and the fit and that these problems were purely cosmetic. It took

Just how tone deaf and stupid IS Apple management?

What are you looking at?

Such a bend, even smaller than seen in the current iPad Pro was blamed on the malfunctioning of the microphone and/or speaker module in the iPhone 6, 7 and 8 leading to Apple first replacing them first; then they just charged $300 to replace the motherboard and later pushed the X-series on the customers with such iPhones.

Incorrect. That "bend" was over a far smaller surface area.

Still valid though - Apple claims the bend will not get worse . If putting an iPad in a backpack causes that , this device has more issues than than the manafacturing process

No, it's not, while I do agree it should be more rigid, it has nothing to do with the tolerance it has after manufacturing...this article, the picture in the article is clickbait, should not be used.

Post a link.

Dan Ricio has said that the flatness spec is 400 microns, tighter than for previous generations, and that iPads meet that spec. That is not an admission that they ship "bent" iPads, it's an admission that the iPad spec is flatter than ever.

Google bent iPad - the verge article is is where Apple admitted some are shipped with a slight bent , now we have further damage control about tolerances - FYI they are in PR damage
Control . First mistake was saying any bent iPad is okay..... blaming the manafacturing process

I have been very sympathetic to Apple - with you there.

Apple closed today at its lowest price of the last 52 weeks - an $83.84 swing down over the year. Down ~36%!

So did everything else. However it does seem to be that Apple takes harder hits and typically is getting less upswings on good and bad news. Meanwhile some stocks like Tesla seem to defy the trends at times. It's the market and not always rational but the thrill seems to be wearing off.

One day Apple will surpass the trillion mark again and later become this boring services company you can dump money into because it's a safe bet. When the heat gets to much on TSLA and AMZN you can dump your money into consumer staples and services. No doubt they will continue to be successful but today I am going to play it safe and buy Apple and waste management and utility stocks.

But, then again, what do people expect, it's a 12.9" inch iPad, only 6.9 mm thin, the thinner it gets the less rigid it will be, it's fragile to some extent, use it accordingly.

Tell the truth, you werent ever going to be buying an iPad Pro at all :)

I have a 2016 256GB 12.9” pro and a 2017 512GB model both purchased right after Jan 1. I’m probably in the top 5% of consumer spenders for Apple. Maybe higher.

I’m not an iPerson, though. I don’t understand the psychology of defending the world’s most profitable corporation. They already have people that do that, why would someone do as a consumer, my interests naturally diverge from theirs.

Could you even imagine defending, in any way, a bend like the one pictured?

I was definitely going to get 1TB model this January, but am having second thought due to this and that’s the truth.

This is an out of the box picture from the Verge - believe it as you please or not, this is the veracity of the claim.

So we are just going to blame the user ?

You are ignoring 1/2 the statement issue . First is that these bends are normal and within tolerance , second - the bend will not get worse with use .

So do you deduce that the user , outting the iPad in harms way, a backpack, is responsible for the bend?

Though , why are we deflecting ? Bent iPad is not acceptable ..... on any form for a consumer expected to pay upto $2K

It's not 6.9mm thin, it's 6.9mm thick.

It's rigidity to a MASSIVE extent is based on the design and composition of the item.
There are plenty of materials that could be added internally to add structural integrity with minimal additional weight.

If you decide(d) not to buy this just now after this came out I don't understand, this is just a minor tolerance "issue", if you on the other hand made a decision that it's too fragile when using this iPad then you might have a point.
It has already been shown that this iPad seems to be less rigid because of that cutout on the side.
