Sweeping praise vs unfounded critical hyperbole? Differentiated from some valid criticism and concerns wrapped up in a discussion?

Yeah, forum posters can see the "likers" on who posts what and draw their own conclusions.

Profiling based on data is very easy on MR , be it illogical haters or those blind to any criticism of Apple . Like thinking people tend to like other like thinking comments

Actually, we will. Apple reads these forums and others on the internet. Public awareness starts in places like this and spreads. How do you think Apple got notice of this issue to address it in the first place?

It amazes me how some people can be so incredibly, personally distressed by others criticizing Apple or speaking up. I am so happy I will never be so personally invested in a company that I will ever feel personally offended and bothered by others criticizing it. That whole concept just seems so bizarre to me.

I am not invested or distressed. The over exaggeration on this site is crazy though so I feel I should speak up. I buy a product if it’s qualify and if it’s not, I won’t. I haven’t experienced any quality issues with this iPad so I don’t personally think the entire product is flawed. Taking it personal would be stomping my feet and crying to the internet instead of just returning the bad product and getting a new one and moving on. Did you personally have a bent iPad?

Earlier this week, Apple told The Verge that some 2018 iPad Pro models are shipping with a slight bend in the aluminum chassis, which is a side effect of the manufacturing process that is not expected to worsen over time or negatively impact the iPad's performance.

Many MacRumors readers were concerned about Apple's position that a noticeable bend is not a manufacturing issue, prompting MacRumors reader Craig to send an email to Apple CEO Tim Cook to express his concerns.

While Cook didn't respond, Craig did get a reply from Apple's VP of hardware engineering, Dan Riccio, which he shared with MacRumors and we which we have confirmed to be from Apple's corporate mail servers in Cupertino, California.

In the email, Riccio says that the iPad Pro's design "meets or exceeds" all of Apple's quality and precision standards.

Apple's specification for iPad Pro flatness is up to 400 microns, which is "even tighter than previous generations." Riccio reiterates that this level of flatness won't change during normal use, nor does it affect function. From the email:
Riccio's email also says that a company statement was not included in the original information disseminated by The Verge, and that Apple will be reaching out to media outlets to comment officially.

The original email was sent late on December 20 and suggested a comment would come "later today," but that didn't happen, so it's not quite clear when Apple will provide more info to the media. We may be hearing an official, more reassuring statement on the 2018 iPad Pro before the end of the day.

Minor bending of the new iPad Pro models first came to light shortly after the devices launched, and new iPad Pro owners who noticed bends shared their concerns on the MacRumors forums.

Apple was quiet on the issue until this week, when the company told The Verge that the bending is a side effect of the manufacturing process and not a defect that impacts iPad performance.

The bend is said to be the result of a cooling process involving the iPad Pro's metal and plastic components during manufacturing. iPad Pro models experiencing this issue are exhibiting the problem right out of the box, according to Apple, so it's not an issue that shows up or worsens over time.

Apple told The Verge that concerns over the structural rigidity of the iPad Pro are unfounded and that it stands by the product.

[doublepost=1545505354][/doublepost]Yeah, I bet this precisely matches what came out of Jony’s Studio. Right. Not exactly a Steve Jobs manufacturing standards company anymore.

It does seem a bit strange to see unaffected people spend time defending one of the wealthiest tech companies on the planet from valid criticism.

At least the affected people have an issue they want to see addressed.

If this bend is normal and expected, Apple should've told people about it when they launched the device.
Yeah, somehow that information was left out of the presentation. Maybe Apple should be required to spend a few minutes after introducing a new product discussing what defects are expected (by Apple) to be tolerable by customers so there’s no “confusion” later. They should show photos and explain how it’s normal so don’t even bother returning your excessively expensive device just because it “seems” to be defective.

Those “unaffected people” happens to be apple employees.

Did no one actually read the article? That photo should be taken down since it clearly appears to represent more than 4 sheets of paper’s worth of “bending.”

It would appear that many did not actually read the article, nor the hundreds of comments here before they responded.

Sometimes it’s also affected people to. As Apple has such a good customer service , they are happy with a replacement and look past the obvious flaw.

Over all - i think Apple management have become stale and have lost touch with reality - the staff in apple stores are awesome , it’s my experience in store that still makes a very happy Apple fan.

It’s the poor staff that have to deal with crap like this . Kind feel sorry for them.

Absolutely. If you haven’t had any issue with your iPad and you don’t overreact to this, you must be paid by Apple. Apple is a horrible company with the worst quality. People are so dumb to continue giving them money.

No....... paid Apple employees, with nice discounts are more logical , even they would not be blinding defending a bent device . They are actually trained to acknowledge the issue and offer a solution . People arguing here , don’t even see a problem. I don’t see them getting past the interview process to be honest , they are even too hardcore for Apple .

Right about now I’d GLADLY deal with a variance of = or > 400 microns, then the fiasco of my having just done some updates on my Surface Go this morning that have completely nuked it. My bad for going to Settings>Update>Check for Updates, and thinking that I’d be all right in doing so...
[doublepost=1545498573][/doublepost]If someone would like to trade a 400 micron iPad Pro for a WiFi only Surface Go freshly bricked by Microsoft’s ‘updates’ let me know...
/s

As much as I'd like to upvote this, I think there have been more than a few Apple updates that have nuked devices.

I know right, I expect perfection from Apple. The entire product line is flawed. iPad’s are snapping in half and these people keep acting rationally about a clear manufacturing issue. The more we complain online without any personal experience to the issue, the quicker Apple will fail. I’m expecting a full apology before I buy anything else from this horrible company.

Huawei for life, right? I would never give my money to Apple again. Tim Cook needs to go, this would never happen under Steve Jobs.

Apple does deserve valid criticism. What is always strange is the “hyperbolic bashing” especially from people who don’t even own any apple devices.

As far as this story, it’s more hyperbole than fact at this point.

“Take my money, mr. cook” -apple buyers. Bend my devices and i’ll pay!”

You captured all of the known MR sentiment. Succinctly and accurately.;)

Friday December 21 was Dan Riccio's true Ho! Ho! Ho! moment, with 15 WTF? minutes of fame.
A search of his Curriculum Vitae:

Prior to Apple, Dan worked at Compaq as Senior Manager of Mechanical Engineering where he was responsible for the mechanical design of Compaq’s Consumer PC products. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Ahhh.... Compaq/s

Bob Mansfield where are you?
Please, pretty please, come back to lead hardware engineering back to its old glory.

Are they that out of touch with reality?
Indeed they are really that far out of touch with real customers. Tim Cook is a "me too" type, a follower. Steve Jobs was an innovator that made Apple the company we loved. Cook must think that people should be grateful to pay $1500 or so for an iPad that is bent out of the box or becomes bent from NORMAL usage. What will Apple's bendable tech (already here?) look like?

Geez I wish Bob was still head of engineering. Compaq - well he is used to defending poor engineering choices :p

I know, so dumb. I wouldn’t even need to own any Apple products to know how terrible their quality is. It’s been this way for years. Huawei and Samsung are the most innovative companies today. At least their new devices will bend on purpose!
And apple would follow their example. Innovation. Premium...at premium price. Speaking on bending...actually a foldable phone have been announced. At least apple discovered bendable concept unintentionally.
