It is clear from the photos that these out-of-the-box bowed iPad Pros are like nothing seen before. Apple even admits that some are coming out of manufacturing in a bowed condition.

Apple's Dan Riccio's statement doesn't directly address the issue. He is talking about the standards and tolerances but NOT saying that those bowed iPad Pros are within those standards. He is leaving the connecting of dots as an exercise for the reader.

The only admission I've seen from Apple is Ricio's claim of a 400 micron standard. If you have an admission from Apple that iPads are leaving the factory without meeting this standard, post a link.

Why is this issue even getting any attention? Who cares? Is anyone evening buy that overpriced piece of junk? The Air 2 works just as good, if not better because it has a home button.

The same Steve Jobs who said "you're holding it wrong". Or oversaw a sea of graphics card failures in their portables.

Face it: they've always been a bunch of pretentious ass-hats when it comes to products. Personally I love Apple products and wouldn't consider buying anything else, but responses like what they are and have been saying are pretty difficult to defend.

Hang on a second.

Get the quote right it’s “Just avoid holding it in that way."

And graphic cards were failing from the word go?? It’s like blaming cook for the new MacBook keyboards

Let’s get a grip here ! This is a BENT device from the word go. Please at least compare a product jobs launched that was bent ......

Hello.... it’s Bent ;) am I missing something here?? Jobs was a perfectionist , blame him for products that he launched that developed issues, but never was a device BENT out of the box with such a lame excuse .

I really wish people would at least get the whole you are holding it wrong quote right ....

Although it is stupid and will probably be fixed in the next release, as long as the bend isn't extreme Apple should still cover any mechanical defects under warranty. The problem is that Apple will most likely not repair it due to any bends.

If it’s not bent out of the box, then yeah, the design is great. I wish they kept the Smart Connector on the side rather than the back, that’s my only complaint.

But if it’s bent out of the box don’t you DARE say it exceeds standards, that’s just a bold-faced lie.

'Meets or Exceeds' Quality Standards of Design and Precision

Too funny, great christmas comedy, thanks Apple!

Now that they are seeing the issue, they tighten up the manufacturing process even further and the issue is fixed. Life moves on.

And where do you see this? They are happy with the current deviations. They never said anything about fixing the manufacturing process. That's the problem. They are not even acknowledging that it IS a problem, so they are not looking to "fix" it. People are pissed at their greed and hubris. To charge what they do for their devices and then to claim that bent iPads are acceptable is a slap in the face. Again, they are NOT saying this is a problem... at all. They are saying it is NORMAL.

Then with all of their resources they need to come up with a manufacturing process that slightly bends the faulty cases back to being flat after they have "cooled" before finishing assembling the devices. Doesn't seem that hard to me after seeing someone nearly snap the damn thing in half with moderate effort, and that is after it is fully assembled and has its glass display attached.
That's the point, they DO have a QC/QA system and that system allows for 0.4 mm of flatness. And according to Apple that is better than previous generations of iPads. What we have seen in photos, IMHO, is well beyond that, aka defective. They, we'd assume, are eligible for being returned and replaced.
I just don't understand why people think that the iPad in the photo of this article is considered to be within Apple's stated specification and representative of what people are buying at the store.

Did they really think this was gonna be the fix for people being outraged? Is anyone feeling more comforted by this NEW statement?

How about an apology for calling a bent iPad NOT a defect and insulting customers' intelligence?

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
Who is outraged? Apple fans are not. They are busy finding any excuse to rationalize this issue and make it acceptable.

That’s my point, I wish you would. Instead of stomping your feet and crying to the internet, you should realize that in the business world, manufacturing defects happen. To expect perfection is as ignorant as it gets.
Are you not stomping your feet and crying to the internet also, but at everyone who speaks up and has a problem with Apple about this? Pot calling the kettle black.

Apple communication with its customers has been lacking recently.

When they needed to address a situation (iPhone throttling), there was lack of information.

When they do address potential issues (iPad tolerances), the response sounds insulting and condescending.
