Meets and exceeds all of Apple’s quality and precision standards?

BS, many of their iPad Pros have a dent where the SIM slot is, comes with a warped frame, and are coming bent or becoming bent over time.

Unless Apple’s standards have dropped, my previous models never had these issues before.

I can be quite the apologist at times, I give more leeway than many. I thought the original bendgate was dumb.

However, Steve Jobs digging in on the 'you're holding it wrong' idea and this response are both examples of Apple just not understanding their consumer base's expectations, ones they have set.

However, do we know how widespread this issue is?

The original bendgate WAS dumb. It was users causing the issue putting unreasonable amount of strain on an electronic device. You should not be sitting on your phone or twisting it, period, as much as you would sit on your laptop, tv, etc with a 120-300 pound person and expect it to survive in perfect shape.

Even with antennagate, ok you could argue ok move a finger or use a case likely 75% of people do anyway and get around it. The dropped call rate from the carrier data wasn't THAT far out of the norm. At least Apple said ok, we still think we're right it's overblown, but here's a few million dollars of free cases. They SOLVED THE PROBLEM as best they could.

But this time it's nothing less than an uncurable defect and there is no way around it really; and to believe a physical bow in the device from the factory is normal is worse. If 400 microns is the standard they should offer EVERY new iPad user over than a replacement no questions asked. THAT would be the proper response.

It is the attitude that gets me, that nothing to see here (while touting quality of its brand as key selling point and justification for price hikes); no matter if it is 500 having this issue of 5 million.

Considering if Apple isnt selling quality anymore, why pay the Apple tax anymore? There are a TON of well built cheaper options out there these days that didnt exist back in iPhone 4 days. there were a ton of plasticy laggy Android devices or Blackberry really.

And arguably devices like the Oneplus 6t are just as well built as any iPhone or Galaxy device these days for $550.

Must say how small Apple spins 400 microns, however what’s missing is the per length factor. 400 microns per ?
The iPad Pro photo shows a bend over possibly the length of the iPad of about a third of it’s thickness. I have a first generation iPad Pro that doesn’t appear to have any bend. Not looking to replace it with this new “Bend Generation”. I am willing to buy Apple high end products, but they must be a precision device in all aspects. I am sure that those that can afford a Bently luxury car expects precision in manufacturing.

I'm not saying they're lying. The tolerances may very well be 400 microns. The issue arises when the bend is obviously beyond the tolerances. He doesn't address that at all. My guess is he's not addressing it because he doesn't want to say anything that can't be plausibly denied. 9to5 has a copy (alleged) of his emailed response. By the looks of things, his words were edited by someone to be more legally nonbinding. You can clearly see the font change as if the wording was copied and pasted from another document.

He just moves away from the question like a real politician. He is asked one thing and he starts talking about completely unrelated thing even if it’s true what he speaks about it’s not what he was asked.

Then with all of their resources they need to come up with a manufacturing process that slightly bends the faulty cases back to being flat after they have "cooled" before finishing assembling the devices. Doesn't seem that hard to me after seeing someone nearly snap the damn thing in half with moderate effort, and that is after it is fully assembled and has its glass display attached.

Seems like you don't know much about the properties of aluminium.

Nope. Revisionist history. Apple used to make amazing products, well worth paying more for. So called antenna-gate was growing pains in a field they were new to, graphics cards come from a third party. Not ideal, but not an intentional design flaw.

They also gave away cases to help the antenna problem, and FIXED thousands and thousands of laptops with video probs for years and years for free. They went above and beyond to make it right. They didn't say "graphic card failure is within tolerance"

Now Ive is just plain designing garbage, WAY fewer features in every release, WAY fewer ports, not upgradeable, not repairable, less usable, less quality... for 2x what they used to charge ( 4x what they used to charge for iPhones and iPads.) Jobs would have straight up fired somebody for publicly saying a bent ( or bendable ) iPad is "within tolerance". Or for suggesting a new model iPhone with a $1600 price tag.

They once were a tech company, now they think they are a fashion brand.
I wish I could give this post 5 thumbs up.

Every product is going to have bends, but is it beyond typical tolerance levels? We need some independent tests, especially compared to previous models and other products, including from other manufacturers.

Seems pretty obvious they shouldn't bend this easily and certainly not be shipped bent.

I guess some people just keep drinking the Apple Kool-Aid. I know this is MacRumors but Apple fans really need to start holding Apple a bit more accountable for the quality of their products and software.

I've used and loved Apple products for 30+ years. I'm a fan of the brand. I hold a fair amount of AAPL.

This is by far the stupidest comment from Apple I've ever heard and, for the first time, calls my position on the brand into question.

I own a 10.5" 2017 iPad Pro. I was thinking of buying a new 11". No way, nor will I recommend it.

Since no one is claiming that EVERY iPad is having this issue, your anecdotal experience is simply taking up space. I don't imagine a lot of people are going to take you up on your request, since their time can be better spent in other ways than convincing an Apple Apologist® that the problem exists.

One other person, one more photo. Until then, son, it's "believe this article because..."

Ive and Timmy have their fingers in their ears saying "LA LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU !!!"

Apple with Steve Jobs... insanely Great
Apple without Steve Jobs... just insane
Apple with Steve Jobs... crazy, like a fox.
Apple with Tim Cook...crazy.

They once were a tech company, now they think they are a fashion brand.

This totally sums up current Apple. Once and awhile they still put out some good products but focus certainly seems to be being trendy and fashionable.

I’ve never seen a company stand so adamantly behind a glaring manufacturing defect.

Yea it’s definitely odd, but at the same time, we haven’t really seen any official statement at this point. The original was something to the Verge, which who knows where it comes frow and now this, a VP laying out what they deem acceptable when it comes to manufacturing variations. The picture posted in the article is used to stir up the masses and draw clicks - obviously that iPad is not within that limit or deemed acceptable. They could have framed this whole thing so much better, but Apple lets their pride get in their way sometimes.

I dont think I will be buying an iphone again anytime soon having owned nearly every model once since 2009.

Their policies are just getting ridiculous no matter how secure iOS is, fluid it is, or how good the apps are. Stupid design choices like if you break the back glass its $500+; oh unless you buy our isnurance for $199 then it's only $99.

And then you go look at another newer device like say the Note 9 and you can get the back glass repaired for $60 third party of $99 from Samsung directly. Because the back glass can actually come off and isnt nearly permanently attached to the frame.

A poor design decision and made solely to charge the customer excessive amounts or to buy Applecare. It's just a joke now some of their choices.

That is not what is shown in the article's picture. Is everyone talking about different conditions? I agree with Apple on 400 microns. What is shown is well out of those specs. Did Apple have a response -> for the photo posted in the article? <- My hunch is they'd agree it is a candidate for replacement. Can we get some clarification here?
See my post above.

99% of you whiners still need to fill your pockets with wrenches and walk into the ocean.

Like Apple wouldn't replace your slightly bent iPad within 5 minutes of walking into an Apple Store.

I love how Timmy just passed the buck to Riccio. Accepts no responsibility for his company's failings and passes the buck. Much like how he threw Forstall under the bus. What a despicable CEO

This is really inexcusable. Apple lately has been a train wreck. I thought awhile back I would get a bit of stock and Apple would launch some new phones that people would love, get some Airpods out for the holidays, and do a few other unexpected things that would be a nice surprise.

I am not going to sell out yet and waiting for the next announcements to decide what to do. However for a company that used to be fun to watch Apple is no longer that company that it is an enjoyable hobby to watch. Bent iPads at these prices are unacceptable. they aren't selling handmade pottery where each piece is some unique and wonderful piece of art. If that's your manufacturing process and that is the result you dun goofed.

I have been very sympathetic to Apple for awhile but my confidence in their direction is running out. I started out more enthusiastic than a lot of others so if I am beginning to feel this way i am sure quite a few others are.

We shall see what they do in the future and i will hang around but given the examples of their services if that's the company they are going to become I will maybe need to find something else to get my tech buzz off of. Because quite frankly the tittles they are producing look like unadulterated tripe. Hanging in there to see if they can sell that tripe though lol.

They only way they’ll learn is if we don't buy it! Anyone that supports this is out of their mind!
