They priced my family out of the market and we're in the upper middle class demographic. No way would I ever pay more than 800 for a phone.

Sort of the same for us. It's not that we can't afford it, but for me I paid £599 for my iPhone 6S and now Apple want £999. That's an absolutely huge jump in cost and I can't justify that. I'd rather save the money and buy a motorcycle or go on holiday. A 67% jump in cost for an OLED display, no thanks Apple.

I hope they learn from their arrogance and lower the prices to what they should have been originally. Everyone who over-extended themselves financially to buy this phone because they had to have it only enable this behaviour and guarantee prices go up for everyone. The iPhone X is a good phone but it's not $1,000 good.
They did learn. Apple will be producing a lower cost model with less features. Those who absolutely want or need the latest features can pony up $1,000.

It makes sense to cut production since anyone who could afford a $1k+ phone and wanted to buy the X already has. Maybe the 2018 5.8 inch iphone will start at 899 next year. I've had my X since launch day and at this point I'll hold onto it until the 2019 model since I don't believe next year will be a big enough upgrade unless I decide to get a plus model for the first time.

I’m just going off the report.

And adding my thoughts to it... I understand Apple hasn’t confirmed anything. But this is the 2nd time it’s been reported a cut of iPhone X production.

Slow compared to what Apple has been known to sell... Apple competition is only itself... normally Apple is known to sell in record numbers of iPhones. Now, we are getting “reports” of slow sale numbers.
Except Apple’s iPhone product line is nothing like the past. So again neither you nor I can say what X salsa should be. Only Apple would know how they forecasted sales by model. This rumor is specifically talking about iPhone X not overall iPhone sales. Since Apple doesn’t provide sales or guidance by model we’ll never know if met expectations or not. The only thing that might give us color on X sales is if iPhone average selling price is higher than normal.

It's a pocketable super computer not just a phone.

My 6S is still fantastic, extremely powerful and capable. What can the iPhone X do that mine can't? The jump from my 3GS to 4S was huge, as was the 4S to 5S. The jump to the 6S was less noticeable, the jump to an X - well aside from that lovely OLED display I really didn't notice much.

What should they have been? Who decides what the price of a smartphone should be? And how do you know people have overextended themselves to own this phone? That’s certainly not the case with me.

I think apple misread the situation with pricing the X so high. I have one, and its a good phone, but I will say its not 1,000 good.

Here in Europe I paid 1500 USD for 64 GB model. If the price was the same give or take everywhere it wouldn't be such a big deal.

Isn’t that what the 8 and 8 Plus are?

Ford now allows Waze on CarPlay. Been using it on android auto for a while

I don't think that's correct. Ford is Beta testing Waze through AppLink, but Apple controls what's allowed/not allowed through CarPlay. You have to turn CarPlay off in order to use AppLink. I'm not aware of any implementation of CarPlay allowing Waze (if I'm wrong, please correct me).

It's a pocketable super computer not just a phone.

For most consumers it‘s just a replacement for their existing smartphone that adds almost no features of real-life value to them. I‘m in the same boat.

I could easily afford it but it‘s hard to justify the expense taking into account what else I could do with that sum. So I said no.

They need to have a 4" screen model that is fully up to date in all respects. I got an X when my 5S just couldn't hang on any longer. There's a lot I like about the X, but I am definitely not getting accustomed to the size. It is just too big and there's no fixing that. FaceID is also working out to be too cumbersome. There are just too many events in normal usage that are beyond its capability. The price was a pretty steep pill to swallow, even for that big of an upgrade. And not having a headphone jack is definitely a nuisance, although Apple could probably make it less of a problem by including a set of AirPods for free instead of the wired headphones. (The X would still be overpriced even with free AirPods though.)

I love these stories. They are so ridiculous, and if there is a truth to them, there is no context. The Financial Times is reporting today, ahead of Apple's 1Q earnings report Thursday, that Apple just had the most profitable quarter in its history -- est. $19b income. So it seems decline of the iPhone X might be, to paraphrase Mark Twain, a bit premature.

OTOH we know from 10 years of iPhone sales that there is a peak at launch which then dips and flattens a bit afterwards. It's quite normal for Apple to adjust production based on seasonal demand. Every manufacture adjusts for seasonality.

What is driving the market?

With little on the economic calendar, traders instead focused on corporate news and particularly on an update from AMS AG AMS, +19.33% AMSSY, -0.22% . The Austrian chip company said its fourth-quarter revenues soared 252%, helping full-year 2017 revenue come in at a record €1.06 billion.

AMS, whose sensor technology helps power the Apple AAPL, +0.23% iPhone X’s facial-recognition feature, also lifted its revenue forecast for 2016-2019 to compound annual growth of 60%. Shares surged 19%, leading the Stoxx 600.

Well, at this point Apple has been heavily marketing the iPhone X over any other iPhones.

Of course, “we” including everyone in this forum doesn’t know the sales of the iPhone X. “Again,” I’m only going off the report. And Apple doesn’t have to provide us anything. This report helps to provide transparency... and it is clearly linked to the supply chain.

The iPhone X is the only display that has OLED, and if reports can indicate the production progress of the OLED that can help into providing some indication on the sales of the X. And this report is speaking on a cut of OLED displays.

I'm really confused. I know MacRumors is not big on fact checking and will publish anything for clicks, but one day the iPhone X is selling better than expected and is the best selling model ever, then tomorrow it's not selling and Apple is cutting orders?

Which one is it?

One is a story about past sales. The other is a story about expected future sales.
