why is it that if we choose no password, we still have to swipe after pressing the home button. Annoying. Touch id will be a fail on the ipad, too many household family members have to learn how to properly lay finger on home button. And you don't hold the ipad like a phone. Properly laying thumb down will be unhandy.
Families that can't figure out how to properly lay a finger on the home button will probably lack the ability to set up the Touch ID. They'll never even know the feature is there.

Nice!

2013 trickle down iPhone 5S features in my late 2014 iPad Air where do I line up!?

This seems to be a pretty expected upgrade. My guess is that side by side apps will be the big selling point, and that will be exclusive to the new versions.

Unfortunately that is pretty disappointing, Touch ID, A8X, better camera, NFC (To act as an Apple Pay terminal) and 2GB of RAM is my guess.

I haven't used my iPad Air much after iOS 8 came out because the wifi is constantly disconnecting. I've tried switching to 2.4Ghz but that just makes it worse. So...8.1 better fix it and come soon.

Someone got fired today, and someone will get fired tomorrow when the streaming event fails again. Time to brush up on my Chinese.

If they don't show the 12.9 inch iPad Pro and it's just that same iPad with touch ID , then why have an event ?

They need to refresh the iPod Classic ----- "It's been too long"

And Add High Bitrate FLAC support , they need to compete with the Pono Player.

The dropped the iPod classic completely bro. Also OS X and Mac will be at the event.

It's last second slight of hand:D, hey look over here! Everyone is looking at this photo and the real story is the new 12.9 iPad they are desperately trying to keep the wraps on....he's just keeping you busy on something everyone already expects, Touch ID, and the name...no big deal.

This was done on purpose, and leaked...who else is looking at iPad guides in the App Store for clues?

They did something like this last year too.

note which products get "leaked" vs the ones that don't. The watch for example had absolutely nothing on it before the keynote. Fake leaks are a free way of drumming up interest/advertising as sales have slowed (typical before new release)

whats the point? most ipads never leave the home. My 4 yr old won't screw with that, and my 18month old, who knows how to push home button and swipe to start ipad won't do it. My wife wouldn't be bothered. Touch id is only usefull on a mobile device.

Now if you could have multiple accounts, then yes, touch id would be usefull because you would have multiple passwords to separate the id's

It seems as though you have no use for a feature that many other people are looking forward to. The point would be to make that feature available to those who would use it, such as students who take their iPads to school, and parents who don't allow their children to use the family iPad unsupervised.

Chances are, your 4-year-old would have no problem using TouchID, and your 18-month-old will not always be 18-months old, and will soon be as proficient as my 24-month-old.

Top and bottom bezels on the Air 2 look smaller, effectively shortening the iPad. Perhaps that's what they mean:

"[The iPad] has been way too long."

Remember, you can still have TouchID enabled, but not require it to unlock the device. For an iPad at home, that would mean you'd get to still have the benefit of using Touch ID to buy in iTunes, 3rd party apps like 1Password, and even Apple Pay.

EH. My iPad 4 with Apple Smart Case will continue in service. With my 6+ I see no reason to retire it.
