Well, I suppose this highlights the issue of recycling electronics.....

By the way, does anybody else think a square container for a spinning blender blade is just poor design? :p

This pisses me off. It's a horrible example of decadence and wastefulness. Thing of all the energy and effort that went into making this device. From the mining of the metals to the labour to shipping it across the ocean. The truck that drove it to its final destination. If you've ever given any care to the environment, this should make you mad. Imagine explaining this to someone who has nothing. It went through a long journey. Did nothing. Now it's landfill. Sickening.

Exactly..
This is utterly depressing.

Also the reason it works when bent is because the components are all at the top. Middle/Bottom is mostly made up of the batteries. Theoretically you could cut it in half and it'd still work. Although I doubt the display would function with half it missing :p

So in theory, you couldn't cut it in half and it'd still work.

That guy was so stupid. He blended like 3 iPhones, iPad, some iPods. He wasted a grand already. Better use the money to improve his business or something IMO.

How much money do you think he made by people watching these adverts and realising the great potential of this blender?

I have a feeling that 90% of the people whining about whatever in this thread would be cheering if he blended a Zune.

uuuu, thos blenders look ugly. They should hire Jonny Ive :)

Did Braun make a blender for Ive to copy?

Yeah, i said it.

*zips up fire-proof suit*

The iPad destruction is heart breaking to see, especially for all those out there who can't afford one and would have treaured the copy they destroyed. But we have to remember, this is good publicity for the iPad becuase it elevates its status in the cultural consciousness (not because it stil works after being bent in half, but that doesn't hurt).

And just think, how many iPads have been accidentally destroyed or damaged since they went on sale this past Saturday! It's just a thing, and more are made everyday :).

re: a waste

Bah.... I'll agree that trashing a perfectly good iPad is a bit painful to watch, but at the same time -- spare me the environmental guilt trip over it. Blendtek's people paid the same price for theirs that anyone else had to pay to obtain one. Whether the iPad in question was destined for a blender, or for someone's book reading or video watching enjoyment for the next few years is irrelevant. The fact is, its *purchase* is what helped some people stay employed, from the factory workers doing its assembly to the guy paid to box the unit up, to the truck driver paid to deliver it.

If its destruction helped Blendtek sell some more blenders (or even create some additional brand awareness at a budget price), it wasn't a "waste" to blend the thing at all, from their standpoint. It was $500 well spent!

I'm not worried about having to "explain this to someone who has nothing", because such an individual wouldn't really grasp why ANYONE would spend $500 or more on such an unnecessary luxury item as an iPad. You could get a book from a local library for FREE and read it! You could rent a movie for as little as a dollar and watch it on someone's TV/DVD player! You could get on the Internet for free from that same library that loans you the books!

I love the "Will It Blend" series, and this one is no exception. Its entertaining, a nice statement against materialism, and frankly great marketing -- that thing is a powerhouse!

I am kind of over the whole Will it blend thing because pretty much everything does. My question is what kind of drink are you blending that requires a blender strong enough to be able to blend an iPad?

Anyone own one of these blenders? I find it hard to justify spending $400 on one.

Do you not realize that this is an ad campaign? They are trying to sell their badass blenders.

Yes I realize but even then I think its disgusting.
But hey, maybe Americans start to realize in 2050 as they now start to realize that You can't forever drive big gas guzzling wasting cars and then start to complain that their petrol starts to gets so expensive(compared to Holland it's still F$%^#$g cheap).
Don't get offended though,I've cycled there and it's still a great country with overall great people.
Just wanted to get this of My sleeve,so that maybe people realize that enough is enough.
Cheers

P.S. What do you need blenders for:confused:

Ah yes, someone who understands. +1

-1 You can't expect all people to know this brand/blender adds, there's heaps of people on this forum which are non American/Canadian:p

Then again, what do you need a blender for:confused:

you might get mad or even pissed just by watching that, you might also think what a waste, but look it this way.. an ipad 500 bucks+ the guys salary.. i dunno? 300 maximum for doing this?, then the cameras man and editing, another 300 for each guy, so thats about 1500.. youtube is free and a lot of people have watched the publicity, i think that its actually working for them this way lol

And that's axactly why I think you are a fool(and most of earth's population),this world will eventually collapse just because we create AIR and by doing this waste our resources.
NO RESOURCES,NO MONEY,NO ECONOMY,WORLD COLLAPSES:eek:

Completely agree
I cycled around the world for 5 years(60.000Km-40.000 Miles)and have been in lots of poor countries, live most of My time in Indonesia now and its just incomprehensible to them why this would be so funny.
I've seen people starving on the streets in the gutter, children starving and very old people which should be cared by their children but they are not capable to do so.
Just horrible and We(You)just close your !#%&*$ eyes, ears and month for this.

Note.
No wonder Americans are so hated around the world, and not only them,Europeans start to be the same.
And I hate My country for that.

I bought a blend tech because of all these videos. Awesome marketing, and AWESOME blender.

So which is less productive? Cycling the world for 5 years or blending an iPhone?

That guy was so stupid. He blended like 3 iPhones, iPad, some iPods. He wasted a grand already. Better use the money to improve his business or something IMO.

Ahem... did you notice that the founder of the BlendTec company is constantly improving his business by posting these incredible videos of everything his blenders can blend? By now about every single geek in the universe will know what a BlendTec blender is.

And married geeks know as well :p

I am kind of over the whole Will it blend thing because pretty much everything does. My question is what kind of drink are you blending that requires a blender strong enough to be able to blend an iPad?

Strawberry margaritas. Lots of strawberries, lots of ice cubes, as much alcohol as you like.

BlendTecs are more for bars and restaurants that blend several dozen pitchers every night. I know i'd never worry about it breaking down.

Its an ad people, relax.

They spent $500 (if they actually bought it) to make this ad. That's nothing.

Some companies spend millions of dollars on a 30 sec ad. You guys can seemingly only justify money paid to actors, but not money spent on a relatively cheap physical prop.

There are too many much bigger environmental problems to worry about a guy blending one iPad. Seriously.

I love these commercials. Amazing advertising, right? I bet all of you know what kind of blender you are going to want next time you are rocking yours back n forth when it struggles to crush ice next time.

I know I would like to have one of these.

Oh the cringe when he busted the thing in half... that makes three devices that wont make it back to the App Store... the blended one, the baseball smashed one... and the iFixit disection... let alone the other savages in the market dealing frakk to iPads...

There's a note... since 2000 there have been about 2-2.5 million PC+other tablets sold in the market.. in 10 years... Apple pushed out 15% of that figure in one weekend...
:D

Now I know!

That's why they're selling 2 for each person. So you can blend your iPad and still have the other one to use... ;)

I don't get you guys. If holywood destroys lots of cars and buildings and all kinds of stuff to make movies, just to entertain people it's ok... but if somebody destroy an iPad for the same reason (entertainment) than it's an horrible example of decadence and wastefulness...
