AAPL needs a Catalyst to spur sales !

Could this be it ?

The Hardware Home Button with TouchID was probably the single most popular feature that Apple has ever removed from ANY of their products !

Also, the Numbers don't lie; iPhones Sales have been Flat for Four Years in a Row now !

Literally the only thing keeping me from upgrading to a 12 Mini from my iPhone 7 is Touch ID. Just hope there is a 13 Mini at all come September and hopefully with any sort of Touch ID.

1.5 years too late, if it happens.
Late for who? You? Face ID has been plenty sufficient since it’s inception and this will just be a welcome addition/alternative if Apple does offer this. Plenty of consumers would still consider an upgrade no matter what regardless if touch ID was included or not.

And if follow Apple, you would know that they don’t really do things on ‘timelines’, it’s when the maturity of the technology is actually appropriate. That’s how they’ve always been.

Another vote for adding touch ID to the home button. Having just upgraded a few weeks ago to the iPad Air 4, I can say I like it a lot and it works quite well. Why not just add that to the 13?

Would it be that hard to just have face id work with your mask on too?
Wow this is a great idea I could live with that!

Wouldn’t it be „cheaper“ for them to just implement what they already came up with for the iPad Air 4 on the iPhone? The button already got bigger!

Far better in the display, if you still have to pretty much pick it up to unlock kind of loses its purpose

Here's to hoping Apple releases an iPhone 13 mini with fingerprint reader and a screen that doesn't have such a low PWM flicker rate.
In regards to the PWM flicker, I reckon at the very worst case, you won't have to wait too much longer for a phone with MiniLED. Possibly next year on the Pro Max??? So whatever you've got now, if you can hold out until next year I'd say that's your best bet.

I’m willing to bet it won’t come out this year. Would love to be wrong but based on promotion not happening last year, I have serious doubt.

I think Apple has put r&d in this for years. When it’s ready, I’m sure it will be faster and more secure than anything else in the market.

a lot of touch buttons down there...camera, flashlight and now fingerprint....
i dont think it will come
3 is so much more than 2? Left, Center, Right. Is that really "a lot"?

So whatever gripe you think you have about optical sensors, I'm willing to bet Apple's implementation will degrade security in a way considered generally acceptable.
Yes. It will be more than acceptable. I think for 99.9% of people the FaceID/TouchID security we have now is perfectly fine. A less secure in-screen TouchID won't hurt us 99.9 percenters at all.

I had to use apple pay over 5 times today and it's super annoying with face ID..
Get an apple watch. Even an apple watch 3 will change everything for you with Apple Pay. It's worth the 200 bucks if you can afford it.

There is one other way to use ApplePay, without any issue of having to use TouchID or FaceID - an Apple Watch. I have my series 5, and always forget I can pay this way. Would be helpful if Apple allowed Wallet to be a complication, not that it’s that hard to push the crown in and scroll down to Wallet...
Er, perhaps you are using Apple Pay incorrectly??? All you do is double click the side button and then scroll to the relevant card and put your watch over the reader and payment done. The card you use most you can set as your default so you just need to double-click. Some cards work automatically like train cards so you don't need to do anything! Just place the watch above the scanner and it pays for you.

You do realise Apple Watch supports Apple Pay don’t you?
That's what the poster you were replying to was actually saying.

Personally, I think if Apple doesn't implement TouchID in some way, they suck. They've had plenty of time now to come up with a solution and there is NO excuse for Timmy.

Macs with obsolete ports and phones with fingerprint scanners, Macrumors is failing for some really dumb rumours

And of course lots of people wear latex gloves and winter gloves. It’s best to have both and better yet Iris. The phone could then waterfall approach rotating through each method.
