Apple's iPhone 5 Media Event Reportedly Scheduled for October 4

You should still be ready for onslaught of unhappy MacRumors-Android-Users.

Specifically, there will be allot of Sprint Android and feature phone users that will be trading up to the IPx.

Let alone all the IP3, 3GS and IP4 users on the other carriers that will trading up to the new IPx

Let the onslaught begin!

Oh sooooo exciting!

Will it be Steve? Will it be Tim? Or Peter from Family Guy?
Will the presenter where a turtleneck or perhaps just a turtle?
A 4s or 5? Will the new iPhone have a 9 inch screen and be called iPad3?
Moscone or Yerba or Bellagio with fountains fireworks and sequins and pearls?
Does Tim moisturise or is it just the lights?
I'm going off topic.

I can't sleep.

Jim Dalrymple, from the Loop, 'confirms the date'.

Wait, wait. Let me pause and reflect. Jim, not an apple employee, much less apple management, confirms with a 'yep'.

Only a rumor blog would use another rumor blog to confirm the original rumor blog.

Don't you think developers would have to know beforehand if the screen was going to be increased?

Not if it keeps the same dimensions/resolution as the iPhone 4. The PPI would drop, but the proportions would stay the same. Of course, I'm sure Apple would review the entire UI carefully to make sure nothing is compromised from a PPI drop.

Though I'm sure everthing would still look pretty outstanding ... it would still be ~288PPI @ 960 x 640 x 4" (IPS, non-Pentile, etc...)

Take a couple of Ambian's and call it good :)

So I'll take that as a "no not necessarily". Cool! That's good news. Thanks.

If Tim was to announce an iPhone with the same casing... I wonder if he'd get boo'd while onstage? Imagine the horror

If I have a friend named Jack, he may be Jack, but he's still my friend when referenced in conversation with those who don't know him. Right? So the point is then, that if I'm discussing the iPhone 5, and it's called the 4S, I can say, "The fifth gen iPhone, the 4S" just as I'd say, "My friend, Jack."

Fin.

For everyone arguing the generation of the iPhone will be 5th so call it 5, this is such a simply obvious statement.

YES we know it's technically the 5th iPhone, but like iv'e stated before, Apple will not release a '4S' like phone and slap 5 on it

When Tim Cook steps on stage and if he says "I like to show you the iPhone 5", beat your ass it will be a redesign.

To the huge, huge group of that is still rockin the 3G and the 3GS..I'm sure you will be blown away by the iPhone 5, and not be disappointed whatsoever

Not at all. I'm on the market for a awesome phone, as much as I wanna stay with iPhone because the whole ecosystem would make my life easier, if it's not up to par with the market and my standards, I'm leaving. Simple as that. I'm a smart consumer before a dumb fanboy. Im rocking' the 3GS now BTW, and if the iPHone has the same screen size and looks like an iPhone 4 with higher processor, I'm getting the Epic 4G Touch. Even with an A5 chip, (which Apple claims is 1ghz but looking at tests, clocks at more at 800mhz) a lot of high end smartphones out and coming soon will blow iPhone 5 out the water. That's a consumer, not fan logic.

Yeah, then you have to wonder, if they went to 4", kept the same resolution, are the results "better". What you'd wind up with, is the same proportions in the UI, not more UI stuff on screen.

That was the clever thing about the 3x to the 4, by doubling the resolution, but using the same proportions, they got the same size text, icons, etc., but with 2x the X/Y density. So everything was in the same place, same size, but looked infinitely better!

There's a nice pool of available high[er] def resources for the iPad, and the iPad resolution on a 4" device would yield like ~320PPI, but it's got a wacky screen ratio (~1.3 vs. the 1.5 of the phones).

Just kind of rambling out loud :D

Apple never ceases to amaze me....

Tim Cook has to continue the Apple formula of success.
Foreplay: Anticipation, Secrecy, Surprises
Climax: Keynotes, Announcement, Innovations, Leading Edge Products

Remember, Apple is the #1 tech company. They didn't get there by coincidence. It was by design. It was all planned and well thought out.

They are a First Class company. And any move to cheapen the announcements, press releases, product or user experience will change their winning formula.

Apple continues 'unstoppable' winning streak in customer satisfaction

Apple closes at new all-time high as world's largest company.
Shares of Apple rose nearly 3 percent Monday to close at a new all-time high of $411.63, padding the electronic giant’s lead over Exxon Mobile as the world’s most valuable company.

Wipe the drool from your face.

So basically, we're looking at:

Invites: Tuesday, September 27
Event: Tuesday, October 4
Pre-Orders: Tuesday, October 11
Sale: Friday, October 21

?

I'm in the same boat. If they only release a minor upgrade to the iPhone 4, I'm going to android.
