You wonder if Apple will continue to do big keynotes like in days past or if they will start having them on Apple's campus. I guess something as big as the iPhone 5 will need a larger venue, Steve or no Steve.
So one thing I did not catch before with this rumor is that the phone is not expected to be available for a few weeks after the announcement. Blah. Why would they do that?![]()
Not the first...
That's how they've always done iPhone announcements. The shortest period in between announcement and launch has been two weeks I believe.
so excited! I'm back to using my ORIGINAL iPhone (still works fine) and has held up all these years. I'm hoping they go back to the metal backing, obviously it's much more durable than the plastic back in the 3G, 3GS, 4.
11 days between the 3GS's Tuesday announcement and Friday release.

If "All Things D" is calling it an "iPhone 5" it seems pretty clear that we're getting a real update. "All Things D" is a very reputable and well known source of official "unofficial Apple rumors".
As for the location of the event, I highly doubt it will be big enough to even require Yerba Buena - I'm guessing it'll be on campus.
I tweeted this to you guys.
And every other site had this already.

I think Apple will continue to do the big keynotes only because they have a wide product line. It's all THEM, and they have a huge following. People have come to expect to be WOW'd by their announcement. That's why there's an almost cult like following. Apple is iconic. Almost like being part of Pop Culture.
Other tech companies (Samsung, HP, HTC etc.) have big announcements too but they're never as big as or anticipated as Apple's.
Why? Apple typically holds their media events on Tuesdays.October 5th seems (more) relevant.
I'm going to put my money on an actual redesigned iPhone 5. I think (via an article from thisismynext) that the top guys at Apple weren't too pleased with the iPhone 4 leak and the whole antenna issue. They are ready for a redesign. P
I also think (via an article on thisismynext) that the reason why we are seeing the so called iPhone 4s is because they are testing these devices in a iPhone 4 shell. Yeah, maybe the screen is a bit bigger, but no one would notice.
The components would easily fit since the iPhone 5 is apparently thinner and that would explain these leaked photos of the A5 chip in in an iPhone 4 like shell. Remember the story about this recent theft of the iPhone 4s/5, if they were testing these devices in the newly designed shell, it would have been leaked. I'm guessing that the individual that came across that device simply thought it was an iPhone 4. iPhone 5 testing units with the new design probably aren't allowed to leave the Apple campus.
Predictions:
1) iPhone 5 that has a slightly bigger screen, tapered design with an elongated home button.
2) iPhone 4 becomes the budget model.
While we've all been anxiously awaiting this, and the kneejerk reaction is "it's about time", I just hope that they've used all of this extra time to really put some big improvements into the product, and work the bugs out.
Here's hoping for a good smooth release.
