I did notice on the poll on 9to5 that it was pretty even between the iPhone 6 and the 6+. I don't think Apple predicted the 6+ to sell so well, and they might end up with an overstock of iPhone 6.

Pretty sure it's 1GB, which to me is disappointing. iOS could really benefit from an increase to at least 2GB. Apps are getting larger and more demanding and the hardware is going to bottleneck at some point.

I really wanted to get a 5.5" iPhone but I'm just not impressed with the hardware. Still dual core, no 2K resolution, still the same 8MP camera from the 4S and paltry amount of RAM. I mean this is 2014 going into 2015 and Apple is pushing out a phone spec'd for 2012.

Bring on the 6S.......

2K resolution is pretty much the issue with any 2014 Android flagship out there. The GPU are not yet there to support such an amount of pixels, and the advantage in viewing clarity is negligible.

I'm wondering if they can't just use compressed memory for the cache as well, sort of how they do in Mavericks. This might be something coming in future iOS releases.

Right, and have the processor cranked up eating the battery while compressing/uncompressing data all the time, instead of adding an extra GB RAM which solves the root cause of the problem.

Easy there... Here's a crazy thought... Maybe we have a different situation than you do, like, you're on a temporary assignment for work, and it ends on September 30, and you don't want your $1000 phone shipped to an address where you aren't going to be, so having a web promise of 9/29 works, but 10/1 doesn't. Oh yeah, you also have a job that doesn't allow queuing outside the store.

Add to that your wife says that you can get this phone, or an iPad, and you know that the better iPads are coming in a month, so you don't want to get stuck with last years iPad and an iPhone 5 for your drive across the country with 3 kids under 9 years old.

Then again, maybe you're in that exact position, so you can "poo-poo" comment like this with authority.

Is this a real thing you just said? What would you have done then if Apple decided not to release the iPhone 6, say, until next month or the month after? You'd have to wait, wouldn't you? I stand by what I said. If you can afford these things and you have time to complain about waiting for them for a while then you don't have very many worries. Instant gratification is destroying us. It's destroying us so much that you, a genuine, real life human being thought that that comment was a good counter point to someone being told to hold their jets for a couple of weeks and wait patiently for their expensive smartphone.

I can't find a violin small enough for your story.

Oh! And I missed that this was the Plus! Maybe this just means it will be easier to get the 4.7"! :D

I ordered the 6+ 64GB space grey at the vzw store at 8AM. Says 10/21 shipping.

right but they can't just let the entire stock be open to only the online people. They had to have allocated a percentage for stores they partner with.

Yes. And stores come in an order too. Not all get stock on release. AT&T are the priority, and the others follow in an order. The smaller stores for a given provider also, may or may not receive ANY stock on release. It's happened before that the AT&T store here in my town (I don't use AT&T but friends do) didn't receive any shipments from Apple at all until the month following release. They were on a waiting list behind other locations just like we are behind other customers.

Not every store gets stock at first. Only priority providers, and then, only their priority store locations. It then trickles down as stock becomes available over the following weeks and months.

LOL.
Yeah, my wife got up at 6am, ordered her 64GB model, ETA of 9/19 and went back to sleep. :p

yeah the 6 I ordered for my wife is coming 9/19. probably because it's 16GB which is stupid to order but that's what she wanted. lol

Anyone with reservations from the middle of the night in the US getting emails to complete your order? Any better ship dates?

I received my order confirmation email at 2:20am PDT (from the US web store), but I have not received any updates on shipping times or any other details. This was for a 6+ 64GB t-mobile.

why is AT&T the priority? what?

I agree with your frustrations. There's too many people defending apple. It's damn near a THOUSAND dollar phone. They can bump to 2gb of RAM. Hell, I'd gladly pay even MORE just to get it.

Maybe that's what the "S" will stand for: S-tra RAM, holmes! (In my best mexican gangster voice)

Technically there were no preorders last year.

It's 1GB. Anandtech said that the leaked Geekbench appeared legitimate since it matched Apple's claims on the keynote.

The leaked Geekbench of the 4,7" model.

Even though I'm not in the rat race this year, and will pick up my phone in a few weeks.. I must say I enjoy reading about it, and the whole community and culture this creates.

I don't think I've ever seen this sort of thing surrounding the release of other brand phones. Apple has really pulled off something mindblowing (and is raking in the profits as a result).

I hope everyone gets what they want and that we're all happy in the end. Long live addictive glowy electronic toys!

why is AT&T the priority? what?

Did you really think that all the providers were equal? For example Sprint sells less than AT&T. Sprint has less customers than AT&T. Sprint is a lower priority than AT&T.

It may have changed, AT&T may no longer be their top wireless partner, but even if it has, there's still an order there.

I got two confirmations. Uh, they don't make sense.

my wife's, for 6, 16GB gray, says:

Order Date: 09/12/2014
Deliver By: 10/07/2014

They said 9/19/14 for sure.

mine, 6+, 64GB gray, says:

Order Date: 09/12/2014
Deliver By: 09/12/2014

LOL. So I should have it today?

The gold phone is available for delivery on the 19th - However, I just learned that some features are not available in the T-Mobile version and they include: Barometer and WiFi AC.
I immediately canceled my order and now i'm wondering if Apple will sell me an unlocked AT&T version and have it activated at T-Mobile.
The information was provided as a side by side comparison on Apple's website and for some reason and maybe I didn't want to hear it; image stabilization is not available on iPhone 6, only the plus option offers stabilization.

Does anyone know for sure if some features like the Barometer and AC will not be available on certain carrier devices?

Gotta link for a source?

The barometer & WiFi, for sure, doesn't sound right - this is added functionality for the 6 itself (not optional). Apple isn't like Nokia, where some carrier (AT&T) has Nokia disable parts of the phone to agree to sell it....so other than carrier required infrastructure to support functionality I don't see this as being remotely likely.

I'm going to try not to fret or fuss about it.

I tried to get onto Apple.com at 5:05AM EDT and it was down. AT&T.com let me order a 6+ 64GB in Slate Grey. The order appeared to go through.

However, I still have not received a confirmation email and subsequent checks show AT&T still says I can upgrade my line. I do, however, have a $1 hold on my CC so something went through. I do not know my delivery time.

I am not calling anyone or fussing for at least 2-3 days.

You'd be the only one.

Verizon has more market share than AT&T I would think. That's who I use.

Whoa, good for you. I work right across the street from Grand Central. I hopped on NJ Tranist this morning and checked the app. No stores (neither in NJ or NY) were showing them as available. I had to order the 6 Plus this morning with a 7-10 day delay. I was hoping for an in-store option, but I didn't see anything.

I work 2 blocks from GC. :)

I ordered mine early this morning about 4am and it said 7-10 days when I ordered but upon checkout I selected Pickup and while Menlo Park was Unavailable, Short Hills was available for pick up! But I just checked after getting into my office this morning and it seems all stores around my zip code, northern NJ and all of NYC stores are unavailable. This is for the 128GB 6+ in all colors.

LMAO, Winning!:p

True, but Apple allocates a percentage of units for sale to Verizon. Verizon then determines how many units each of their corporate stores will have versus how many Verizon will stock for online sales.

I'm in no hurry to drop $850 for a new iPhone either.

That's actually a lie, wish I could get in on the pre-order but I need to save up first :(

Does anyone know how to purchase a full price phone? Why is this so difficult? Please quote me and reply if you have a clue, I can't find the option anywhere and it seems like that would be the easiest way to sell it and easiest way to buy it anyway! Grrrrr

why did anyone order from the carrier? this happens every year where their stock runs out in seconds and people who ordered through apple get their phone.

it's like you people like flogging yourselves

Because Apple's stores turned out to be just as much garbage as the carrier stores last night.

Neither of them worked too well, but I was getting further on Sprint than I was on Apple.com and the Apple Store App for about a half hour.

Leading up to today there were several reports that there would be significant supply constraints on the larger model. This is just that being brought to fruition.
