I work 2 blocks from GC. :)

I ordered mine early this morning about 4am and it said 7-10 days when I ordered but upon checkout I selected Pickup and while Menlo Park was Unavailable, Short Hills was available for pick up! But I just checked after getting into my office this morning and it seems all stores around my zip code, northern NJ and all of NYC stores are unavailable. This is for the 128GB 6+ in all colors.

I was up at 4 in the morning. Couldn't get anything. I think it's because I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon, and in order to do that, you have to do it on the full website, which didn't come up until like 5:40AM or something. So I was really screwed because I had no choice but to wait for the website to come up. Menlo would be ideal, but I don't mind going to Short Hills to pick it up.

Verizon has more market share than AT&T I would think. That's who I use.

It may be. But even so, not every Verizon location will get stock on release day. Only their biggest movers, and other locations will get stock as it becomes available. All I was getting at, is there is a chain that is followed. The top provider gets the most stock (or whoever Apple has the deals with, for a while, that was AT&T ). After that, it goes by volume of sales at a given location. If store x has less business or volume than store y, store y will get priority in stock over store x and store x will get stock whenever the supply issues are ironed out several weeks/month from now.

Just might be the reason why some of the "first in line" at the store locations this morning are getting further out release dates than either online, or other store locations.

...Long live addictive glowy electronic toys!

You speak the truth....I love reading the stuff too. Had my alarm set for last night, but then decided to sleep and just pick one up later on (weeks?)...(then found out, after I got to the office, I could order 64GB white 6 for delivery to the office on the 19th, so had to do it...).

Noticed Bank of America is already advertising the 6's payment system on their website...

I just looked at my orders, and with Verizon I get this on each phone:

1GB BONUS DATA/MO FOR 2 YRS Expires 09/22/2016

As disappointed as I am that it will only have 1 GB (this isn't a very future-proof phone), I believe it is less of an issue for the iPhone than it is for the iPad. The tab reloads on the iPad is unacceptable. What's the point of having tabs if they are constantly reloading?

Key partners that pay the subsidies like "innovations" that burn data more quickly. Tab reloads over cellular is just eating data over and over. Issues like this contribute to getting you to your tiered limit, which then involves you paying up for more data. Making more money makes key Apple partners happy.

You don't order to pick up. Apple ships it to you. So it has nothing to do with location stock on release day.

Oh. Well, then in that case, those people's bad. If you were ordering for delivery, would have been faster by far to have stayed up a bit last night and ordered online. Unless you're after the 6+. That was facing delays from before the event even occurred.

Testing purposes

I've always been the one to go into the store in pick up the iPhone on day it was released. Apple always surprised me when I came in to have one available when certain places or the online store was backordered.

So, this particular time I decided to do a preorder and not worry about going into the store instead have it shipped. Went to bed and set my alarm for 1:45AM (CT).. Eagerly on the App Store App awaiting to get the "Ship by 9/19" status for the 6+ 64GB Space Gray.

After trying for so long.. decided going to AT&T instead and it went through with ease. But when I finally got my email the shipping is 4-5 weeks. Therefore, I'm canceling the preorder.. And I plan on picking it up in Apple Store. At this point, I believe Apple should be aware there is incredible demand for the 6+ model.. I'm hoping for more push for the 6+ compared to the 6 on launch day.

I definitely won't do the pre-ordering anymore.

i agree mostly, but higher RAM makes a difference in refreshes and such, and it matters to many people. i was pretty shocked they didn't bump the 4.7 and go even higher than the 'possibly-maybe rumored' 2gb on the 5.5. this iOS8 better be frickin magical and stop blanking out pages on my 5S when i browse more than 1 tab in safari, assuming that it's iOS8 that truly matters. the refresh action is getting old and i'd personally like an improvement here. y'know, like anyone else who owns a smartphone that apple doesn't make.

That's not a RAM issue. It's a bug in Safari - albeit a longstanding one. Reboot your phone and you'll find Safari lets you run multiple tabs no problems, but over time it starts to do the annoying refresh thing. Fire up Chrome on the same device and open a dozen tabs with no refresh issue. 2GB won't help this bug. It still happens in iOS8.

I bought the 6 Plus solely because the 4.7" has only a 720p ish screen and also the camera differences. Even Appleinsider's first take said there is a discernable difference between the two screens from a sharpness perspective.

If the 4.7" had a 1080p screen I would have gotten that no question.

Personally, I ordered last year from Apple, literally the moment the 5s went available for order. Got the base space gray. Emails came from Apple every other day or so until it got up to 8 weeks. Didn't get it until the last Friday of November. The experience wasn't all the different than when I ordered through my carrier with the 4s, and so it seems to make little difference and the deal through my carrier is better. And I don't mind the wait. So why not?

Good grief. I ordered the iPhone 5S forty five minutes after the site went live, ordered the highly sought after gold & white 64 gb phone and got it a week later.

Megapixels mean little these days. Pretty much all cameras have enough pixels to make a sufficiently sharp image. It's all about noise per pixel and light sensitivity these days.

This statement is the opposite end of the extremes... megapixels do matter. But they are just 1 part of the puzzle, which you did touch on. Size of the sensor, aperture, quality of the lens, raw/jpeg engine; those are some other pieces. Apple merely chose to improve the camera by improving aperture and sensor, and possibly the software driving it all... knowing that too many megapixels with too small a sensor introduces noise.

Higher mp, like you'd see in a DSLR, means a lot more than in a body this size. At 18.1 mp, the full-frame Canon EOS-1D X has room to grow still and won't see reduction in IQ from more mp. Even down to the prosumer T4i/650D at 18, the improvement in IQ is very evident over what a 16 mp Galaxy S5 could ever dream of offering -- or any point and shoot at that level mp.

It just isn't as easy as this megapixels are too low vs megapixels don't matter battle that this has devolved into... it's just simply the number virtually everyone understands. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to explain why f/2.2 is really good, or why f/1.4 would be even better to the average joe.

The gold phone is available for delivery on the 19th - However, I just learned that some features are not available in the T-Mobile version and they include: Barometer and WiFi AC.
I immediately canceled my order and now i'm wondering if Apple will sell me an unlocked AT&T version and have it activated at T-Mobile.
The information was provided as a side by side comparison on Apple's website and for some reason and maybe I didn't want to hear it; image stabilization is not available on iPhone 6, only the plus option offers stabilization.

Does anyone know for sure if some features like the Barometer and AC will not be available on certain carrier devices?

According to the Tech Spec sheet on Apple's iPhone 6 page, All models have Wireless AC and Barometer. Don't know where you heard that from, but Apple would be required to inform you if certain carrier models lacked certain features. Otherwise they would be false advertising and could face a potential lawsuit over it...Sucks that you canceled it though...

I ordered a Space Gray 16 GB 6 and a Silver 64 GB 6 at 6am PST from Verizon. Order confirmation email showed 9/19 for delivery. Let's hope that stands.

Tried ordering last night, but the first time I went in to purchase it did not have Edge as one of the payment options, so I cancelled out of the operation. Subsequent attempts to preorder gave me an error that had to do with not being able to retrieve my ECMP (or something like that).

It's all delivery, you can't order for store pickup.

Wonder how many units they had ready for this launch!

I tend to think they ship more units to their Apple Store to get customers in their store to get them interested in other products & services. They don't really gain too much by shipping them out to customers... Heck, shipping is free.

It's just poor design of Apple's website on the iPhone. The different columns are for the various models of the phone (as at the top). The list of carriers, which seemingly breaks the flow of the columns and appears as a new header, is just a listing of the carriers available on all devices. The two right columns (missing barometer, NFC, WiFi AC) are for the iPhone 5s and 5c and do not relate to Verizon or T-Mobile carriers.

This is further supported on the iPhone 6 page, which provides the breakout of different models (CDMA/foreign/etc) - all include

802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi‑Fi

Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology

NFC

(admittedly, barometer is not mentioned anywhere).

I ordered through Verizon's website before 3:00 AM EST and everything sailed smoothly as I ordered via Safari on iPad Mini. I started a new EDGE account and purchased a 16GB Gold iPhone 6 for the wife. 9/19 delivery in the shipping email confirmation. I'll be getting the Plus added to the account for myself in a few weeks.

I must have been a fluke.

Got up and went to apple.com. Had zero issues ordering an AT&T 128Gb Space Gray model. Granted I did opt for a local pickup.

Pretty sure it's 1GB, which to me is disappointing. iOS could really benefit from an increase to at least 2GB. Apps are getting larger and more demanding and the hardware is going to bottleneck at some point.

I really wanted to get a 5.5" iPhone but I'm just not impressed with the hardware. Still dual core, no 2K resolution, still the same 8MP camera from the 4S and paltry amount of RAM. I mean this is 2014 going into 2015 and Apple is pushing out a phone spec'd for 2012.

Bring on the 6S.......

Megapixels mean next to nothing!! Get this number chasing out of your head. Sensor > MP count. All day long.

I'm so tired of the DUR HUR SAME MEGAPIXELS MEANS THE SAME QUALITY crowd.

Once you've over 6 or so, it's not the number of pixels that counts, it's the quality of the pixels. How much light each can gather, noise level, and so on. A good example is that an 8MP professional SLR will completely destroy a cheap 8MP pocket digicam ANY DAY. (And destroy the iPhone's camera too!)

Megapixels mean little these days. Pretty much all cameras have enough pixels to make a sufficiently sharp image. It's all about noise per pixel and light sensitivity these days.

People need to get that through their head. We will preach it til the end!

Yep. I have a 12.2MP Leica X1. It has pretty ****** specs. It's slow and stuff but it has a giant DSLR sized sensor so it takes absolutely phenomenal pictures. Yeah, I can't get them printed on a billboard, but quality literally has nothing to do with megapixels.

why did anyone order from the carrier? this happens every year where their stock runs out in seconds and people who ordered through apple get their phone.

it's like you people like flogging yourselves

The Gold 64GB 6+ was showing as unavailable in the Apple Store app, so I ordered on the AT&T website. I would have preferred to order on the Apple Store...

Cancel preorder

Anyone know if I can keep my AT&T pre-order until at least launch day (if not shipped already) and then cancel it at the store if I can find it there? Just wondering if there is a certain time frame that cancellations must take place.

Anyone ever do this before?
