Agreed, but it's still true. Adblocker sometimes makes me forget how truly horribly that site is. Thank goodness for iOS 9 and 1Blocker!

This makes no sense. It's fugly but I guess I can get use to it. If it added Qi support, i would say it would be worth it.

I give it two stars. I'm sure others disagree and want to give Tim a bonus!

I have an iPhone 6 for work and an iPhone 6S Plus as my personal. The 6S Plus has more than enough battery for me, but the 6 could use a bit more juice, though it is improved from the iPhone 5 (I definitely needed a Mophie). Anecdotally, most people would benefit from a 10-15% increase in battery.

Although for a power user, the Mophie might still be king, I'm glad Apple has taken a first step to offer something. I'm sure the next battery case they make will be even more improved. Until then, let's hope the iPhone 7 will offer that extra 10%!

This is terribly ugly and you couldn't produce a Jony Ive video to explain that horrible design. If it was similar to the current Mophie I'd understand...a little bit. I was gonna complain about no 6 plus version but this looks like crap.

Translation: I don't like this, here's what I would have done instead....just replace "I" with "Steve". The same Steve that approved the hockey puck mouse and an upside down Apple logo when facing outwards (looked really great in all those Sex and the City episodes).

Maybe, but common sense and a little historical background dictates that Apple as a company, Ive, and Steve would have at the very least developed a product that served a solid purpose.

A little less smug is in order to track Apple product developments and see that this case is nice only in that it uses the same charge cable in lieu of microUSB, but doesn't fill a solidly defined need for the iPhone. This isn't a badly designed dock, which Apple has made for it's products since the iPod, this is
case that literally clashes with the design aesthetics of the iPhone.

Also, remember that Steve is the one that coined the (paraphrased), "Just plug it up and charge it" response to the iPad's battery life.

Again, more observation and less . . . . . whatever it is you gave us.

I must be getting older, because while I most likely won't buy it because of it's $99 price (although I do have Apple Store gift cards), this isn't as big of an abomination as some here feel. I still think I'd rather use my 25K Anker external battery and slim case, though.

If it doesn't add a much needed wireless charging option to the iPhone then what's the point. It's just ugly.

That quote kind of makes it seem like SJ wasn't as consumer focused as he's painted as. "Just charge it" is how people deal with the S6 battery life. :|

I agree, he wasn't. And many of his responses to valid gripes where in line with that comment.

At the very least Steve "allowed" us to have third party products that would solve certain issues. Maybe that's why the case is so . . . . . meh. If it were $69 then Mophie might not be able to make the case for their accessories.

I don't know a lot about battery cases, obviously. Do they typically have antenna to counter signal loss like this one?

Steve Jobs skill at convincing people was, in retrospect, that of a novice compared Jony Ive's superior talent.

Paid like a world class designer, he sits on his arse while Apple serenades him.

I'm a big Apple fan but this is ridiculous looking for an Apple product. It looks like someone duct-taped a battery on the back at the factory and then dipped it in silicone. Must have been a late Friday afternoon project on the Apple campus or something. lol

I really hope they design the next iPhone out of some sort of non-slippery composite material that needs no case at all. I have an Apple leather case just so I can get some sort of comfortable hold on the phone. I'm pretty careful with my tech and I'm always paranoid I'm going to drop the phone if I don't have the leather case on.

This battery case is just ugly I'm sorry, it's literally the least effort ever put into an Apple product design IMO. Mophie cases look 1000% better than that thing.

this would be my preferred case.
1) On a morphie case I have to turn it on-and-off as needed.
A) This case just essentially "extends" my battery on the phone, no thinking of it.

2) A Morhpie case needs to be OFF to charge the phone, I have to remember this; otherwise I may find my phone at 0%
A) This case just works, no thinking.

3) A Morphie Case requires a headphone adapter
A) This case should work just like any standard silicon case, AND it does work with the standard earpods.

4) A Morhpie Case uses a different plug (micro USB) so I can't connect to any iPhone accessory I may have
A) This case uses the same lightning adapter so I can use any accessory

PLUS) The IOS integration is a nice bonus, where I don't have to look at some indicator lights on the back, I can see how charged my phone+case is right on my regular screen.

This is meant to feel like it's simply PART of the iphone, not a separate accessory.

As to the price, its priced similarly with the Morphie (and the Offgrid Express is $80, not $50 as implied by the Verge article), it doesn't offer quite the same battery power but does offer the above features; so I think the price is right.

I do agree, though, it's not pretty.

Perhaps this is part of Apple's strategy to make an even thinner iPhone in the future. They can make an iPhone 7 at half the current thickness of the 6s but giving it a battery that lasts 2 hours without an Apple external battery pack.

This is ridiculous. Fix the internal battery and make the iPhone a little thicker if necessary but don't use these crappy workarounds.
Why stop there? What if Apple make a phone without a battery at all, and sold the battery as an accessory? And what if they put antenna stripes on the front as well as the back? And what if they made the bezel larger? I'm really starting to get worked up at all the outrageous things I'm imagining Apple doing in the future. Imaginary future Apple makes me really mad!

not to be all melodramatic, but this is truly the nadir of Apple's design ethos.... If your smartphone needs an external case in order to be functional, you have failed. It doesn't take a genius to avoid such an obvious failure of industrial design and branding...
