This doesn't make sense.

If you grouping all the iPhone family, why don't you group all the Samsung Galaxy family too?
But they did group the Samsung flagships from 2017.
[doublepost=1514573834][/doublepost]
not even close , samsung makes many galaxy phones , j3 , j7 , s8 , s8+ , note

samsung far outsells apple in phones ... this is another garbage written apple aritcle.

they averaged 80 mil per quarter in phone sales....all galaxy phones....thAts 320m in a year....
Yes they sell more phones than Apple but a lot of them are mid range and low end phones. Therefore Apple beat them in terms of revenue.

No ... they didn't not fully.

Galaxy S8
Galaxy S8+
Galaxy A5
Galaxy xx xx

There are quite a few Galaxy models, just like the iPhone has 6 (still sold by retailers overseas), 6S/7/8/X. The same should be done with grouping the competition.

"The best mobile silicone in the industry (fact)."
- Until the cpu/gpu, screen etc all get throttled due to battery performance lol. Have you not been up on currrnt affairs? Sure the X will not be affected, not for 12 mths BUT it's that perception that it will be horrible sooner or later that is now sitting in consumers minds ... we'll see just how well sales go on the next cycle of iphone models. I'm VERY curious what Apple/Phil will say on stage during their special event for next October's iPhone announcement.

"The cameras are phenomenal (best still camera on the market)."
^ up for serious debate: LG V30 comes very close and bests it in some areas ... it's not just the overall comparison here but all comparisons because not everyone will use the cameras the same way or majority over the length of ownership as others. Ex I barely take photos because well that's not a factor I'm interested in.

FYI:
https://www.dxomark.com/
Shows the Google Pixel 2 at 98, iPhone X at 97. Doesn't seem the "best" now does it? Again it's all about relativity here.
Go back an re read my post. I said best still camera. The iPhone X beats the pixel 2 for still pictures in the same testing you linked.

As an investor, I’m up on everything Apple news. I literally read every article on a daily basis.

The software tweaks to limit device performance in extreme cases does not change the fact that the mobile processing in iPhones is the best in the industry. Apple addressed this with battery replacement for $29 that should bring you back up to spec if you are having issues. Most probably never noticed a decrease because it only shows up in benchmarking which by definition overt taxes the CPU.

Remember, it is a FACT that Apple devices last long and hold their value better than the competition.

By the way, have you read the articles on Samsung also throttling S6 and S7 models?

The A series chips are unbelievable and it’s really not up for debate. They are in a different league.

The vocal minority doesn’t speak for all consumers. Apple sells over 200M phones/year and is addressing the issues some people have had with slow downs and sub optimal performance.

They could have been more transparent but ultimately are taking care of their customers. It wouldn’t have mattered if they told you what they did anyway. No one would have read it and the result would have still upset the vocal minority.

Their terms and conditions allow them to do these types of things when you agree to a software update.

Don’t worry, Apple will survive. Get ready to see the best quarter in corporate history when they report in January.

my point is, it's not comparable to iPhone class of phones, because it doesnt competes in the same market.

Just like you don't chuck gasoline VW Polo when comparing electric car sales -its irrelevant. J3 is a cheap phone with its own market that apples doesnt occupy

iPhone SE is $159 on a lot of prepaid plans. J3 (depending on version) is $99 to $129

If j3 is a “cheap” phone , then so is the SE on these same prepaid networks ... therefore, the SE shouldn’t be counted in the same “class” of iPhones (non SE) either.

But according to MacRumors members, no one bought the 8 because they all were waiting for the X and then no one bought the X because it was too expensive. I thought the iPhone was a failure.

Oh, who to believe? So many cranks here have been going on about massive oversupply, record amounts of iPhone X returns, and low traffic in Apple stores. What world do they live on? Hahahahahahaha.

Another paid fake research company. Only data that's more trust worthy is major etailers and retailers.

Only best selling.

Alexa is teaching my three year old to annunciate. There is real value in her being able to request a song and turn the lights on.

Best-selling tech product, sure. But most magical? Those would be the AirPods, which I've been wearing non-stop since Christmas. These things really are amazing!
Welcome to the 21st century, unlike the "why did they remove the headphone jack?" crowd, not everyone is an audiophile people!:p

Yes, the AirPods would be the winner for 2017 best tech gadget for me. I don't ever see myself going back to wired headphones or using anything else, unless something better than AirPods are introduced. The seamless connection without going into settings and tapping on it just works for me.

Flawless victory!

It just sucks how vocal the haters are these days. People are pissed at Apple more now than ever, yet they continue to do record numbers.

Apple has made mistakes for decades, but because now that they're followed so closely and have changed so much, people think that the blunders now are the only blunders they've ever done.

Apple is still an excellent company despite this battery situation, the notch and the MBP w/ TouchBar that people are so up in arms about.

thats not what the article is talking about , its straight sales.

perhaps you should read the article.....

samsung is 100 million phones more than apple in '17 alone.
well yes, because they have plenty cheap phones in market segments apple doesn't cater for.

In the market apple doesn't cater for samsung had 100% of sales over Apple. It's the same every year for a while now, the market hasn't changed much since 2014.

iPhone SE is $159 on a lot of prepaid plans. J3 (depending on version) is $99 to $129

If j3 is a “cheap” phone , then so is the SE on these same prepaid networks ... therefore, the SE shouldn’t be counted in the same “class” of iPhones (non SE) either.

I don't care about networks, iPhone SE is 350$, Galaxy j3 is 110$, thats 3x price difference. Apple never had a 100 dollar phone.

Unbelievable. It’s unbelievable it sold so well. First, you have the iPhone X with its ugly notch and lack of home button. Then you have the iPhone 8 with the same design as the iPhone 7, which has the same design as the iPhone 6s, which has the same design as the iPhone 6.

Both product names—iPhone X and iPhone 8—are blatant lies to customers. There was no iPhone 9 and the iPhone 8 is really an iPhone 7s.

(The iPhone 7 name was a lie as it was really an iPhone 6ss. Therefore, the iPhone 8 is really an iPhone 6sss.)

It’s amazing that Apple can be so lazy with their industrial design and hardware engineering and still be not only named the best-selling tech product of 2017, but “easily” named the best selling tech product of 2017. It’s a shame that there are no consequences for Apple’s lazy actions.

that notch makes more sense than your same lame excuse!

Apple isn’t a tech company to begin with. I see Apple as a design company responsible for making technology more personal to the end user. I love my Airpods, my Apple Watch, my Apple Pencil, my iPad Pro.

Is this article proof enough for you or will you say that they're a design company who happens to come across technology and slapped their name on it?

So, you listing the devices you have, you don't consider those technology? Ok so you've lost me here.

If you love the design or new hardware and bought the new phones because of it, great. I have a feeling that the vast majority of users have bought into and are entrenched in the ecosystem, rather than a geek-centric analysis of the hardware...I do think they are excited, when they upgrade, to get new features and "better" hardware than what they have with an older phone...but I don't think that indicates that Apple's design this year is magical or innovative...

I'll probably upgrade my phone in a year or two, probably with Apple, if I decide it's worth it at that point. I'll be happy that it has a better processor and cameras and all that. But it won't be specifically because of the design or hardware related to particular model...it'll be because it's time to upgrade and I'm entrenched in the Apple ecosystem.

I agree that there are many doomsayers here...about as many as there are rabid fanboys who make it sound like the corpse of Steve Jobs cracked it's head open and the iPhone X floated out fully formed. I think the masses that are buying the phones aren't necessarily thinking the same way as fanboys or doomsayers.

I was reading your posts and ...... Apple was a failure .... I thought the numbers would be 10 times as much ;)

How is that passive aggressive working out ? :p

So... the article is combining ALL iPhones sold this year to get the 223 million number. Basically any iPhone that was sold from January to December was counted.

Fine.

And they only chose the two "flagship" models from Samsung since they were somehow the only models similar to Apple's entire product line.

I don't necessarily agree... but fine.

And yet the two Samsung models they chose weren't for sale the entire year. The article made no clarification that the Galaxy S8 didn't come out until April... and the Note 8 only came out in September... (3 months ago!!)

That's rather disingenuous, don't ya think?

There were iPhones being sold for an entire quarter before the Galaxy S8 was even released... and also iPhones continuing to be sold for 9 months before the Note 8 was even released.

Look... I'm all for making fun of Samsung for various things... but this is ridiculous. :p

I've got my own award: "Best Cherrypicked Data for 2017"

^ This while agreed is subject to "holding their value" is ONLY based on what the after market is willing to pay for Apple products! Nostalgia comes into effect as well. One could be said Porsche 911 has the highest resale value of any cars in the world year over year over year as time goes one (save Rolls Royce). The nostalgia affect ther is by comparison the model design barely changes the following year, it's a gradual change and thus most owners and admirers love that shape will not go elsewhere. Same can be applied to Apple. You can try that "hold better value" line at those wtih a 2013 Mac Pro as they try to sell at near or 3/4 launch prices, and see how those units are selling in the grey market. Hardly being touched! So much for "value"

Production of the competition for fit and finish and quality has matched Apple in the last few years - in terms of mobile phones. Again the "resale value" is determined NOT by the brand, but by the willingness of the BUYER wanting to pay what the seller wants.

You're bringing topics that have NOTHING to do with your original post or my rebuttal which shows you peddling back against your topic of "the Best Camera" or ahem "Best Still Camera". To put it bluntly ... "The vocal minority doesn’t speak for all consumers" is fitting because nor YOUR vocal opinion nor MINE can be trusted as THE one to speak for all consumers. This is presicely why I stated I don't really care for the camera as it's not a measure I'm too concerned about while maybe for you it is.

Funny how the vocal minority HAS INDEED caused Apple to do an about face! Pretty powerful for some that don't affect the majority of all Apple's consumers when this battery replacement price reduction will indeed positively affect all iPhone users going forward - and yes that will include throttled iPhone X users after October 2018 until December 31 2018.

iPhone SE is $159 at Best Buy for Simple Mobile and other prepaid services.

Period.

The j3 elipsw for the same service is $169.

$10 more than an iPhone SE

they are in direct competition.

Period.

Your opinion does not overrule facts

Just so you know, X is the Roman numeral for 10. The iPhone X is Apple’s tenth anniversary model of iPhone. Not a lie, let alone a blatant one. If skipping the “9” in your mind constitutes egregious corporate misconduct or a violation of your personal sense of feng shui, so be it.

Also, Porsche has had essentially the same (highly successful) car design in the 911 for over 50 years. Should the Porsche AG also be ashamed of its laziness?

eh, every gen was different tbh.
porsche_911targa_evolution_1600_2.jpg

6, 7 are basically the same design, 7 removing the antenna strips. 8 is arguably more different because glass-back and no antenna strips, and it feels different in hand too. X was first truly new design since 2014 (3 years)

Maybe the rest of the Samsung phones are not in the same category as the iPhone, i.e. high end phones?
Most of Samsung’s mid tier phones (and those from many other manufacturers) have more Ram, more memory, bigger screens, higher resolution screens, expandable memory, dual sim, bigger batteries than any iPhone. They should compare mid-tier v mid-tier.

....and before everyone pipes up with the iPhone has the fastest CPU, well we now know that is only for a few months!

What are you talking about? I pointed out facts to iPhone X having great hardware.

https://www.dxomark.com/apple-iphone-x-top-performer-stills/

iPhone X has the best camera for still, according to dxo.

Everything I said about their silicon being industry leading, having the best still camera, and the highest rated screen is all true. I know you’re mad that it is, but true nonetheless. I literally didn’t read anything you posted because I know what I’m talking about.
