Love it so far. Now if they'd just get us info on the next iPhone we can all be happy. :D

Is it me or did I miss the hardware upgrade? Are they really going to have the same hardware running for 24 months in a row?? (I mean by Summer '11 it will be 24 months in a row).

That is shocking.

It was an event specifically about OS4.0 - new hardware will most likely be announced in the Summer

So how does one actually quit the application instead of keeping it running?

Good question. However, it appears the apps are actually suspended and available to unload from RAM anyway, so they shouldn't be using too many resources. But I would like to know the answer to that. Maybe you flick its icon off the dock (*poof*) or something?

Good observation. It looks like iPhone will remain to be far behind Android sets both in hardware and software departments.

Hmm that is what I was waiting for the whole time, a glimpse into future iphone hardware!

But by releasing the API today without any mention of a screen res bump, I have to wonder... is it going to be the SAME as the last 3 years!?

Anybody want to comment on that?

i Do Not Want Ads In Apps That I Purchase!

iads are for free apps that already have ads, this whole program is more for developers than for end users. so you may see more free aps now due to iads. iads is actually a good thing for developer and cheap people who don't want to fork over $.99 for a game.

The only issue I see with that is that the 3G is still being actively sold by Apple and it's partners. I can sort of understand them dropping support for the original iPhone and 1st gen touch completely, but someone could buy an iPhone 3G between now and the release of OS 4.0 and be stuck on a 2 year contract with a crippled OS.

Yeah, my point exactly.

I just realised, they didn't preview in app sms although it showed up in one of their slides. I'd have liked to see how they did that (although I doubt it'll beat bitesms)

If you look at the picture slide from the beginning it clearly states that there are notification enhancements. They didn't tell you or demo about ALL the features last year of 3.0 during their preview either. They said nothing of video for example. They chose to highlight 7 things only. They keep the rest for the into of the new iphone.

They were referring to local notifications. If they had a new way to display notifications, they would of certainly shown it.

There is nothing that stops a developer putting ads into a paid app. It's only market dynamics that will stop them, because people will hate it. iAd will be just as accessible to a developer of paid apps as free apps, just as in-app purchase is available to both free and paid apps. Do you really think that Apple will go, "no, sorry, you're charging for your app, no iAds for you."

Based on...... the fact that the company that doesn't say anything in advance, didn't say anything.

Screen res is a hardware/"new model" thing. If they mentioned it, they would have stomped on any new iPhone model announcement. Is this your first time here?

I don't understand being mad at upgrading. I am shocked people are even still using 2g phones. My 2g phone looked like a dinosaur after 1 year. How does your battery still work? My 3GS is now, what, 9 months old and I feel the battery is not holding a charge as well, I am a power user.

Heck, computers get old. FAST. The iPhone is nothing more than a smaller computer.

He's looking progressively healthier.

I was getting really worried when I saw this pic about a year ago.

Wow, they spend months developing the ability to forcefeed ads every 3 minutes and they STILL can't have an integrated Contact/Task/Calendar/Note system worth a damn.

Apple doing what it knows best, ripping you a new one. Want multitasking on the iPhone? buy the new iPhone. Well played.

Am I the ONLY person pissed about the UI looking the EXACT same except the dock? Even the lock screen looks the same.

The iPhone's UI is currently the Gold Standard. It's still the best there is.

No reason to change it at the moment.

Yes, but in Apple's world software and hardware are tightly integrated. The fact that they did not mention anything about higher resolution indicates that there will be no screen upgrade. Most likely there will be update for CPU (A4 - like iPad).

A lot of these new features look really cool. I can see Game Central really taking off. Multitasking took a while to come, but Apple really did it the best way they could and you've got to hand it to them for that. A lot of the other smaller things are really cool as well. Can't wait for this update, though I'll need to upgrade my phone.

Should I get a 3GS or wait until June if Apple will announce a new iPhone then?

I'd probably wait till the announcement, if you can hold off for two months.

That's why they just added folders, which should have been there from the very beginning. Always hated hundreds of apps strewn over multiple pages in an unorganized manner.

And the Game Center thing was a major surprise. Imagine if Apple cared about games on the Mac as they did on the iPhone...

You may have missed the announcement of Steam coming which was due to a lot of assistance from Apple to get that gaming platform on the Mac. I think they are still a little slow but getting a lot better.

FINALLY everyone can stop complaining about multitasking. There wasn't anything more annoying than that. I am personally stoked about the multitasking, folders, and I know it's lame, but changing the wallpaper for springboard. Folders will change the way I use my phone... It will be nice to shove off those default Apple apps I don't use into a folder :)

and put that folder on a homescreen all on its own.
