If Apple can just borrow Google’s camera algorithms ;)

You can’t count the iPhone being fragile as an issue to the iPhone X. The iPhone X is designed by a legit designer. Jony Ive is a legit artist he not only designs the iPhone but even all the Apple stores the campus’s he designs nearly everything in Apple
Wow, first you like the word "legit", Let me ask what's the difference between Jonny Ive being a "legit" designer as opposed to "a designer" and a "legit artist" as opposed to "an artist"? If he's so good and you hold him up to such a high standard how come he produced a $1000 phone that breaks if you sneeze at it?

“Impossible to say” which is better?! Might as well say “impossible to say” which is better, Lexus or Chevy. Are we on an Apple fan site or not?

You can’t count the iPhone being fragile as an issue to the iPhone X. The iPhone X is designed by a legit designer. Jony Ive is a legit artist he not only designs the iPhone but even all the Apple stores the campus’s he designs nearly everything in Apple he’s won plenty of design and art awards even one for designing a museum. He designs other products from time to time that are not Apple other buildings that are not apples. So yes the iPhone X is fragile it’ll break its made out of all glass besides the chassis. Of course it’s going to break it’s glass. But that’s not an issue with the phone because when your buying an iPhone you aren’t just buying a phone your buying a piece of art designed by a legit artist/designer. iPhone users do live in a glass house but it’s a darn beautiful one. Because the iPhone revolves around the smooth user experience and the exterior design in its products the price will show it. When your buying a iPhone X buyers need to understand they are buying a glass art piece that’s a cool phone. You can’t buy literal glass art and be upset it broke when dropped them call it an issue with its design.

And you either like his work or not. IMO he has made some awful choices along the way. Mostly with the iPhone. Crown jewel being the notch.

Who wrote this article?
...
When it comes to intensive tasks, though, the iPhone X will handily outperform the Pixel 2 XL.
...
What type of observation is that? Either you compare and provide examples to prove it. Don't write a comparison article and put such statements.

Is this a "pick me up" article after all the issues showing up for iPhone X?

Yeah... intensive tasks like... I am going to run Cinema 4D and do my 4K 3D renders in it.

Don't now about the five years of upgrades but it is not relevant when you consider your iPhone will run like sh|t within two years because of battery degradation and updates on IOS which will slow it down significantly.[/QUOTE. Where did you get your info? Check out this vid it’s a iPhone 6 Plus test run on iOS 10.3.3 vs iOS 11. iOS 11 proved to run faster than iOS 10. iPhone 6 Plus shipped with iOS 8 That’s 3 years of updates and its still running just fine. iPhone is not even in the same league when it comes to updates. iPhones can be used for years and be up to date. Android users need to update phones every year to 2 years to have the latest firmware so if you don’t upgrade android users will always be living in the past until they buy a new phone iPhone users will be up to date on the latest with out having to upgrade their phones. Morale of story is your stupid. buy an iPhone and save money for the next 5 years if you like.

True you either like an artists work or you don’t each person has their own taste. But that wasn’t my point. My point was that it being fragile isn’t a flaw factor as it was designed to be glass to look beautiful. There will always be those who prefer different. But he’s won awards on awards for iPhone designs so on a factual basis most like his work

I'm sorry, but let's recap Pixel 2/XL issues:

  • Grainy LED panel provided by LG, check
  • Burn-in on 2-week old LED green, check
  • Ships with missing accessories in the box, check
  • Ships with NO OPERATING SYSTEM, check
Who's the tester???

Versus the iPhone X can not work in cold weather?

"Apple pledges to fix iPhone X cold-weather issues"

Or the iPhone X green line of death?

"Mysterious ‘green line of death’ appears on some iPhone X displays"

Or the screen burn issue?

"iPhone X: We can reduce but not eliminate burn-in on OLED screen, says Apple"

Or the blue tint on the screen?

"iPhone X display has blue tint issue."

Or the iPhone X can be unlocked by a non owner?

"A man was able to use Face ID to unlock his brother’s new iPhone X"

Well you get the idea. All phones have issues and Apple has their fare share with the iPhone X. Go look at the phone yourself and decide what you want. I personally went to the Verizon store and looked at the Pixel 2 XL and did not see anything I have an issue with. So purchased and will be here in a few weeks.

I have used iPhones since the 3G so a smooth UI is a high priority to me. But I also now prefer Android. So the Pixel is the smoothest Android you can get. I do also carry an iPhone but been using less and less.

Sure apple has messaging but Google wins on the rest of the ecosystem. Google Home > Homepod, Google Assistant > Siri, Google Play Music > Apple Music, Google Docs, Photos, etc > iWork/Photos.

Would add Duo over Facetime. Took a bit for Google but Duo provides better quality video using lower bandwidth. My family has moved over to using instead of Facetime even between iPhones.

They're not done yet either. They'll be doing a lot more with the camera when they enable their custom camera chip in the 8.1 update.

Yep, I'm waiting for this update. I currently have both phones but will probably return the X. The camera on the Pixel is just that much better all around. Google has some serious software behind that lens. Once the 'Pixel Visual Core' chip is activated I doubt many camera phones will be able to compete.

On top of that, Android on the Pixel is just silky smooth compared to iOS.

Obviously you didn’t get my point. Let me rephrase it iPhone X is designed look very nice. One earthly material that looks nicer than most when made properly is glass. So glass was chosen to make it look very nice. The goal of design was to be as attractive as possible. The goal was not be durable. So glass was used because it just makes a phone look that much better. So when you buy an iPhone X your buying it because not only is it a phone but it’s very nice looking compared to other phones. But it’s made out of glass so be careful. If your not going to put a case on it then it’s at your own risk. In my own opinion I feel like many buy iPhones cause it looks darn good. So this is just that. It’s fragile but it looks darn better than yours. I put a case on mine and dropped it from a raised pick up truck prolly 5 ft from the ground give or take. And it thudded so loudly slamming into that concrete heart dropped picked it up it’s fine. Then when I’m at home or want to show it off I take it out from time to time to enjoy the feel and look of it. Do you get it now? Why it’s not an issue with the design but rather a compromise you give up durability for beauty or you give up beauty for durability this years iPhone design gives up durability. Each iPhone buyer needs to understand that before buying

To me the main difference is that with Google, YOU are the product.

Some of us weren't born with a paranoid spoon in our mouth.

Wait until AI and Assistants really kicks in with mobile tech. You will, then, NEED to be the product for it to work seamlessly.
[doublepost=1510408478][/doublepost]Why continue with the article when the author writes this:

Face ID has proven to be largely fast and accurate, making it an improvement over fingerprint sensing technology. Pixel 2 XL continues to offer a fingerprint sensor, albeit a fast and accurate one.

It's like he's an elementary kid playing marbles in the courtyard. His color is better than your color marble. He admits both are fast and accurate but doesn't explain why one is an improvement over the other.

On a pro-Apple site, this is a stupid review. He's trying so hard to sound fair and objective, etc. He seems hesitant (or afraid) to simply declare iPhone X as the obvious winner. It's ridiculous. I'll ignore all future iPhone reviews from this site.
Another one with hurt feelings because his ego wasn't massaged. Need a 'Safe Space'?
[doublepost=1510408692][/doublepost]
Google is amazing software company, hardware not yet, but they're trying and Apple better be ready. iOS 11 was and still is the buggiest release to date.

iOS has been garbage since iOS 7 - I keep buying iPhones and returning them. I'll return the X next week, iOS is just bad & getting worst.

Pixel2XL would be an excellent phone if it was $499. So do Apple. iPhoneX could have been $749 if Tim wasn't greedy.

You want a phone that costs upwards of $300 for the components only to be sold for $499? The amount of nonsense I see people saying on these forums is astounding.

Whatever makes you sleep at night. You're just trying to justify a $1000 phone. Here's the deal: You don't have to justify it to anyone. That being said, you can get a number of cheaper phones without "sacrificing integrity" or whatever lean six sigma made up drivel you're willing to come up with. And, by the way, the services on Google's ecosystem are just so far ahead of Apple's iTrash that Google could delete 90% of the data it has "mined" and Google services would still be 100x the product any Apple app/service is.

I feel sorry for a bunch of you guys that spent $1000 on a phone only to find out it's not that much better than a cheaper phone with a better operating system.

Yes, well differential privacy is a marketing term meant to make you feel better while Apple mismanages your data. Siri is still garbage.
Dude, your attempt at psychoanalysis and resulting inferences about people’s motives is a big FAIL — just like Google’s exploitation of user data fails to deliver any meaningful benefit. I’ve never thought twice about the cost of the iPhone. The value is clear to me. I don’t know why you feel it necessary to attack people whose opinions differ from yours; but I won’t speculate. I’ll leave that to the Professional you should consult to address your issues.

oh I forgot to mention your comments on me using legit. Did you know that the Oxford dictionary is the dictionary used to by scholars and who ever else use them as the dictionary for historical meaning of words. So in the future today’s words would be studied by scholars and their meaning will be as whatever it is written in the oxford dictionary. So in other words whatever word in in the oxford dictionary is credible. So when I use the word legit it’s because I’m using it as it’s meaning not because I like it. But because it’s the word I chose to give a description to something. If your referring to me using it in the sense that it used to be commonly used. Feel stupid because I don’t follow what everybody else likes and doesn’t like. I say and do to my liking even if people like you think it’s dumb. I simply used the word to describe something. Your not cool because you don’t use it.

Superior front facing camera, I'll give the Pixel 2 XL that. The details in the shadows in the outdoor shots are of more value to me overall and the iPhone X seemed to do a better job there according to the SuperSafTV video. Plus 2x optical zoom on the iPhone X. Strengths and weaknesses with both, but which camera is best depends on in which (light) situation you mostly shoot, I think.

'Pixel visual Core' chip coming online in Android 8.1 will most likely make all these camera reviews moot.

You mean apart from Apple products designed by Jonny Ive?

These phones aren't even on the same planet, for me personally.

The Pixel has an excellent camera but:
  • Mostly Plastic
  • Has Huge Bezels
  • An inferior OLED from LG. Color shift. Burn in.
  • Less premium build quality
  • Generally Ugly
  • No wireless charging.
  • Removed headphone jack after making fun of Apple...loses all credibility

As a Pixel 2 XL owner, I feel like I need to defend it a bit.

  • The phone isn't technically plastic. It's a metal uni-body with a plastic coating. The end result makes it seem mostly plastic, but the strength of a metal bodied phone is still there.
  • Huge bezels on the Pixel 2, yes. Pixel 2 XL has MUCH smaller bezels, definitely not what I would call "huge". Not everyone cares as much about that though, and it's hard to compare to the iPhone X which basically has NO bezels.
  • The LG OLED display has had some major QC issues. The varying degrees of blue shift, grainyness, and the "black crush" issue people have had, to me, fall under QC issues. The burn-in is more a problem inherent with the display itself. For whatever reason, LG's OLED display seems to suffer from it much worse than Samsung's do. My experience has been just fine. My brother has the iPhone X and there is also color shift when tilting it as well, though a bit less. My particular device hasn't suffered from the grainy issues, and I haven't noticed any burn-in yet.
  • Less premium build quality? This one is hard to argue. The use of glass on the back of the iPhone X, in my opinion, isn't indicative of a premium-or-not build quality. It's more the little things that make the real difference. The power button on my Pixel 2 XL pretty much has to be pressed dead center. It's a little mushy on the edges of the button. Things like that, I feel, are more telling of the build quality.
  • Whether it's ugly or not is a matter of opinion, and saying "generally", to me, is the same as saying "objectively". I actually really like the look of the phone. Shrinking the glass portion on the back from the OG Pixel was a big improvement. The iPhone X is also a great looking phone, but again, this is a subjective matter.
  • I feel like the lack of wireless charging isn't an issue. Especially considering this is the first generation of iPhones to actually include it. Does it suck that it's not there for people that want it? Yes. Did I ever use it when I had phones that included it? No. Other people care more about it, but it's not a big deal to me since I can go a full day on one charge and I always charge it when I sleep.
  • This one's tough. This is the problem with marketing departments using attacks on other devices to sell their own. It's something that never should have happened, but it's not a reason to put a mark against this particular phone. The marketing department for the Pixels aren't the ones that actually design them. They're just trying to find the best way to make people feel like they want to buy their phone vs the competition's, and they made a stupid stupid choice. Does this make me question Google's marketing? Yes, it does. Do I feel like this make Google as a whole lose credibility? Certainly not.
I don't want this to seem like an attack on your opinions. You are entitled to feel how you feel about it, as is every one else. I suppose I just wanted put my own opinion out there.
