Is that supposed to be code for something? Or is it some joke that I don't get...

No it's neither:

Hello everyone!

This must be the most exciting keynote since the iPhone announcement 3 years ago. As usual, I'll be here to post the link to the video stream. However this time I'm preparing a little surprise, in hopes that it'll make waiting for the link to come up a little easier. Hopefully it'll be done by then.

See you on Wednesday.

nope, it means that he has already confirmed that he will look out for the link, and he also said he had a surprise for us. I'm as curious as you are as to the nature of the surprise.

Sorry, I get it now! I should have read through the thread again! Opps!

And I love surprises! I hope what voidness has instore will be fun (well it's free so can't set too high a standard)!

Thanks,
King Mook Mook

Does anyone else feel like there isn't going to be a whole lot of surprise?

I can't remember what it was like prior to the iPhone being released (although I remember I went spoiler-free for that too...) but it really seems like this time around, a lot more people know what they're talking about.

Between Steve Jobs and Tim Cook skipping around singing to the tune of I've Got a Golden Ticket at the fiscal reports and the various CEOs talking like they know something on whats getting released today, I really feel like a pretty clear image has come together...

I kind of hope I'm wrong because I could really use a pleasant surprise...

Heres to hoping for One More Thing...

good morning everyone! I just woke up, its 12:42pm my time (Lebanon) I tried to sleep as much as possible so the day won't feel that long, cz the keynote will be around 8pm my time, (im not gonna stay spoiler-free, cz of internet problems, but dont worry ;)) lucky ppl living in the west coast of the usa, they'll just have to sleep a bit more than usual, wake up, and there it is..
as for me, i still have to wait for loooong 7 hours!! btw, I read somewhere that 9to5mac.com (don't try to go now) might be able to stream an audio or video broadcast, if that's the case, I'll post the direct link to the broadcast... ok? :D
happy spoiler-free-waiting!

great thread! i will join you guys... hope i can resist til tonight.
i live in germany so the keynote will be online after midnight.

Surprise time!

Does anyone else feel like there isn't going to be a whole lot of surprise?

Kinda. The rumours have been around (I will not repeat them for obvious reasons) but still we do not know a lot about the device, if anything at all. I want to believe that when Apple release their device that it'll be completely different to what people expect and that's what they need to do. If it's just a big iPhone then sure it'll sell but it's not a game changer. In my opinion for it to be a game changer it has to be more than a big iPhone and so radically different that it can't really be compared to an iPhone. And I think I speak for most of us when I say if it is just a big iPhone, no buy. I have an iPhone already I don't need a big one that does the same thing as my smaller one.

And when others predict that you could use it on a bus or public transport like an iPhone I think that's ridiculous... An iPhone is small hence is easy to pocket and not too conspicuous. If I was to pull out a huge Apple Tablet out on a bus in Canberra, Australia (where I live) not only would I look a total idiot and tool, I would be prime mugging material. It would be completely conspicuous and is akin to pulling out a MacBook Air on a bus (something no man wants to do).

So I think that there is still a lot to be known about this device and I can't wait for the surprise!

I just hope no one pops in the thread to give away the surprise. You know, because they 'genuinely' misunderstand the point of a non-spoiler thread. It's happened the last few times to varying degrees.

True. There should be a possibility to close down this thread so that only people who previously registered for it can post news. That would be great.

And what's worse is that when you tell them they're jerks in blind anger - you re-quote their message, thereby maybe spoiling it for someone who didn't see their original post, lol.

Closing the thread to non-registered posters after the keynote starts is a great idea :)

Regardless of the fact that this (thread) is always a funny place to be, waiting for the keynote, it does indeed get tiresome after a while, due to the ridiculous delay until Apple posts the keynote video. Like someone mentioned before, it's 2010, it makes no sense whatsoever from a technological point of view - it's definitely not an encoding-related delay as I've seen way better-quality live streams than what gets posted on the Keynotes Podcast. I'm sure it's just a "political" thing, a way to buy them time to avoid unnecessary "complications", like that unauthorised-song-thing during the iPhone 3G presentation (when they showed the worldwide availability) that got edited out in the final video. Or that other moment when Schiller made a derisive comment about Microsoft Exchange in one of the iPhone SDK events (that ended up being edited out as well). So, it appears to me that Apple only posts the video online when they feel it's "safe" to do so (i.e., when all necessary edits have been done).

Agreed. It would make sense that key personal have to approve it before it goes out. I forget which keynote it was but I recall on one occasion the podcast started auto-downloading in iTunes before they even posted the streaming link on their website. I'm hoping that's not the case tonight :)

I wouldnt be surprised, with Jobs' attention to detail and perfection , if he personally would want to check the keynote stream before it is released to the public.

He takes so much care over his presentations and the video stream is basically just that presentation but given to the masses.

That happened last time (the September Special Event). In a way, I'd rather have that, as I definitely prefer a stable (local) video, than a sometimes unreliable streaming version, even if the quality isn't really that much different.

Where exactly will we find the link? Page 1, post 1 or somewhere else?

Arn will update the news story and there are probably also people posting the link. But you just have to be careful not to click on just any link you see or all this exciting spoiler free mission will come to an untimely end.

I understand what your saying but idk... It kinda reminds me with the iPhone event where everyone thought that they knew dead ok what it would be and then when Steve announced it they were all so far off... That's what I'm hoping for here.

I agree with you completely... I think it's gonna be different from the rumors in an amazing way... And really, I don't think anyone has any idea what it's gonna be.

The first post will infact be updated with the link but it will most likely be posted in the most recent page of this forum first.

That's true. I would wait or a link that is either posted or varified by voidness before you click it. Or until someone else tells you it's good.

I can't wait!

Don't forget to change your home page guys! In previous years, people have had their home pages as either Apple.com or Nytimes.com and have had it ruined for them!

p.s

Thanks CBlakeston for the catchy signature idea.

I woke up like a little kid very excited this AM. Now begins the task of turning off RSS, Aim, yahoo and FB updates etc...

Happy Geekday to all!! Have a great day!
