Actually feeding it here might bind its attention and other threads that have not gone down the drain already might be safe for once... ;)

No thread is safe if there is a danger that Apple might look better than Microsoft. They descend on it like a plague of locusts.

The "Apple Sweeps Consumer Reports' Laptop Recommendations" news thread was hilarious. There he was, jumping all over it on the first page with stories about faulty Macs. Sad.

My point about stella and fosters was that you can't really say which one is better than what. same for osx and windows.

I know. My point is that someone brandishing the name of a car maker from Munich should know the difference between p*ss and beer. Both your candidates belong the former variety of fluids... ;)

And btw, sorry for being completely OT. To save this post: Teh Macz rulzz! PCz r teh loserz!

EDIT: Sorry, just read what you actually wrote, and I have to say that, no, I don't know. I don't understand your "point". Looking at your post, erm, it now doesn't even make the remotest sense to me.

We've got to get some new trolls around here. The current crop is just too unoriginal and boring. Not too terribly bright, either.

So true. BMWfan is going on my ignore list stat. I suggest everyone else who is tired of his weak schtick do the same. I'm sure he'll quickly be replaced by another MS astroturfer (they are numberless, after all) who has nothing better to do during his daily virus/spyware scan than harass Mac users on MacRumors.

Agreed - and I'm sorry I carried on feeding it after I suggested we stop. OK I really am going to stop now.

I don't think we ever found out if they were on a Mac or not.

BSOD on Mac

I am a Admin of 80 Macs with POWER users and in 2 years NOT ONE!!!! BSOD...

NO VIRUS ON MAC for low Market Share!!!
Google your reply!!!! :)

Great cum back Apple, as always TASTE and STYLE!!!

Good Job :apple:

Apple's marketing team is obviously much more creative and intelligent than Microsoft's:)

These ads made me laugh out loud:D

I wouldn't buy anything less than an Antec P180/182.

I have the Sonata III -- while it's glossy and pretty sturdy, it definitely looks a lot better on-line than in person. Now it houses my personal esxi server, hidden discretely away from judging eyes...

How does the P180 or P182 compare to the Sonata?

Seriously? What exactly is so great about these ads? They haven't had an original idea in like 6 years -- it's the same thing in EVERY single ad. "PCs freeze like 100% of the time, oh and they always have viruses, Macs are perfect yay." John Hodgman is the only reason they have any amusement value at all.

I'm not a PC fanboy, and I'm not here to bash Macs, but the way you guys drool over this stuff when it's not even good is silly. MS ads aren't really better (terrible actors in a lame attempt to look "real"), but they make a valid point without being snooty and repeating the same tired script over and over and over.

Very quiet and with solid construction. The hard drives are on dampening mounts and the fans have external controls.

They're a little on the heavy side though. Even my P180 mini.

How true is that bro!! I've also only seen it twice in 2 1/2 years!! Thats what I love about Macs!!

If you just do surfing after your work.
This ad makes me think that Macs are for newbies who worry about viruses, crashes, hackers and softwares. I don't think they are problem for other power users. My Macbook had freeze twice in half year and I run lots of programs on it. The main reasons that drove me to Mac are easy installation for operating system and Mac environment at my work place. But I still have PCs at my home for some programs without mac version.

That's because the Windows experience is the same thing every year. There are still thousands of viruses, the BSOD still rears it's ugly head. I just got a BSOD in W7. Yes it's beta but it runs okay enough but when I tried install Skype it got a BSOD twice. To this day there is still no known viruses on Macs. Why should Apple come up with something else to attack MS for?

I don't understand the accusations that these ads are "smug" or "snooty" at all. Read the Engadget comments from the Winbot Horde every time they highlight one of these ads. "SMUG!" "ARROGANT!" "SNOBBISH!" How so? They're hardly in the same vein as "Pardon me sir, but would you happen to have any Grey Poupon?"

Mac never acts better than PC in the ads. In fact, he goes out of his way to build PC's self-esteem. "PC, you're a whiz with numbers and you dress like a gentleman!" And on and on.

Where's the smugness there? Does Mac ever say "Wow, PC, you suck rocks," or "Hey, I'm a Mac and I'm ultra cool!" (in fact, Justin Long usually looks like he just rolled out of bed, which is annoying)

If anything, Mac is overly sympathetic to the plight of PC.

I think the blowback from these ads is just resentment from the Windows crowd. "Boo hoo, they're poking fun of my daily misery - what arrogant jerks!" Whatever.

Like the ads or hate them, I don't see them as "smug" at all. Just another lame anti-Apple stereotype for the trolls to cut and paste in their daily posts.

Your post is a perfect example of "smug, arrogrant and snobbish".

never seen an osx crash screen in over 6 years of mac use home and at work.

But i did see a blue screen of death on my works XP pc today.

Great ad - made me laugh.

OK, first of all, there is no "daily misery" involved with using a PC. This is a myth that all Mac fanboys seem to love to propagate, probably so that they feel better about paying twice as much for their computer.

Second, the smugness comments, at least from my perspective, come about because even though the Mac character isn't really bashing PC (he's sort of snidely fake nice), the ads (like Jobs himself, like a lot of Mac people in general) just exude an air of superiority -- also evidenced very, very prominently in your own post.

Here is a better analogy for you.

Mac = pretty box packaging
PC = bland but functional packaging

Mac = bottles sourced from third party
PC = same bottles sourced from third party

Mac = Stella
PC = Fosters

Mac = £10 per bottle
PC = £2 per bottle.

Fosters! Someone must be an ex-pat aussie or just watched Flight of the Concords...

What motherboard are you running that on? I'd like to do an ESXi box at home; Citrix XenServer just ain't cutting it.

Say all you want, OS X is a far far superior operating system to the abomination that is MS Windows. THAT is a fact. Has always been.

Things that PC users unfortunately take for granted every day (like rebooting to fix whatever problems they have, being worried to open a zip file cause it might contain a trojan, defragmentation, complete install every a couple of months..etc etc) just doesn't exist in Unix land.

You can go on mumbling all you want about smugness and what not but the fact still remains. Windows is mediocre software at best when compared to just about anything else out there.

That sounds a lot like my OS X experience.
