OK, first of all, there is no "daily misery" involved with using a PC. This is a myth that all Mac fanboys seem to love to propagate, probably so that they feel better about paying twice as much for their computer.

work just got me a macbook - cost the same as the standard 13" dell we are offered.

And while i wouldn't describe pcs as a daily misery, (my BSOD today was the first in ages) - i would describe them as more awkward to work with.

IE not as well designed or "cheaper"

just exude an air of superiority

like PCs excude when they talk about their market share? ;)

If you don't like mac fans - there are plenty of other fora out there.

We can't help being happy about vocalising our positive experiences with out choice of tech.

Ah, another newly-joined MacRumors newbie here to defend the big MS. Shock. I smell the fragrant aroma of springtime astroturf. Ummmmm!

Oddly enough, I work on a Windows PC all day long (I'm typing this on a Windows PC right now, actually), and I beg to differ with your rosy assessment.

This is a myth that all Mac fanboys seem to love to propagate, probably so that they feel better about paying twice as much for their computer.

Again, not a myth, based on my 15 years using Windows. (How long have you used a Mac, might I ask?) And your throwing the "fanboys" card right out of the gate shows you have nothing of value to say.

Second, the smugness comments, at least from my perspective, come about because even though the Mac character isn't really bashing PC (he's sort of snidely fake nice), the ads (like Jobs himself, like a lot of Mac people in general) just exude an air of superiority -- also evidenced very, very prominently in your own post.

Hmm, I thought the point of marketing is to make your product look superior to the competitor's? But maybe that's just me.

And since I disagree with you, that obviously makes me "smug." I'm just a "smug fanboy." Well played, Redmond Defense Force cadet, well played.

Astroturf Different.

Exactly what I expected from apple, its their style. Its the same style ad that has been giving them fantastic success.

Edit: JUST saw a new (to me) mac commercial on the Ed show, its got an apple genius and PC making dozens of calls to get help.

It's something that gets thrown around a lot unfortunately. You can't like a Mac without being a cultist.

That's a problem with a having a small market share - if you support it you must be in a cult.

Pretty much. There is no denying that there are Mac users out there who over exaggerate PC problems and over look ones on the Mac end but what you tend to see is that Mac users have used PC's, many use them on a daily basis and prefer Mac's and sing their praises.

The majority of PC users who slate Mac's do not own one, have never owned one, it's highly debatable whether they have ever even used on and those that have it's in a store.

I've always tend to think... There is a reason Mac users go on about them so much.

Is that the one where it takes two weeks without a machine for Mac to get his optical drive replaced, while PC gets an on-site engineer the next day to do it in minutes? :p

(ignore my bitterness, I'm just annoyed that my MBP is about to make its fourth visit to the Apple store for a hardware repair, two fried NV8600's and now a second failed superdrive.)

The point of my original post was actually to criticize the commercials, not Macs themselves. The commercials are tired, and have always exaggerated PC problems. You do a much better job of making yourself look like a fanboy than I could ever do.

Now I keep hearing talk of "on site engineers" on these forums and I have never heard about this anywhere else. These companies will actually send someone to your house to repair your computer?

Edit: To the post above this:

The commercials may be tired to you, but not to the public as they are clearly working. We all know apple is very careful with its image and if any company has the ability to see when something isn't "cool" anymore, its Apple. And of course the problems are exaggerated ITS ADVERTISING. You are supposed to make your product make the competitors look like crap.

I'm not sure where BMWFan is from, but I do know that Stella is generally considered piss in Belgium. Maybe some Americans think it's posh.

It's not even sold in America because i have lived all over the East Coast (in many different States) and even seen of heard of that beer. Just like I bet you never heard of Saranac so things even out in the end.

Please don't think all Americans drink swill.

Yes. Even on cheap consumer laptops, Dell offer 3 year onsite support for around £95. On business based models it comes as standard. Our HP servers have a 4 hour call out, and our Sun boxes a 2 hour SLA.

Warranty servicing is one area where Apple really could learn from the big PC vendors.

Wait, is this home or business support?

I've honestly never heard of this before.

Both, on the really cheap consumer stuff you have to pay a bit extra (£95 for 3 years on the really low end laptops), while business machines will usually come with at least one year onsite as standard.

Why are services like Geeksquad so popular then?

How much is that in $?

To the internet!

this part must've been cut from the commercial

Megan: And i want a laptop for under $900
Mac: Aw, damn. PC wait come back!!

all joking aside, i loved the new ads. good work apple.

Yeah because Macs never cra

For what it's worth, I've been using Macs for over 20 years. I've been using Mac OS X is 10.0. I haven't seen this screen since the days of 10.1.5. Now, that's not to say that I haven't seen other kinds of crashes and freezes.

That being said, I work on Windows every day. I see a LOT of crashes, BSODs, freezes and slow downs, certainly more than I see on the Macs that I work with.

However, that doesn't mean that Windows is bad. Windows and Mac OS are both operating systems. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Stability is an area where, on the whole, Mac OS has a little bit of an edge over Windows. Maybe that will change with Windows 7...?

Back on topic, I loved these ads. I laughed my head off when I watched them. :)

You can get Stella here in Oklahoma. I have a Russian adviser who will drink the stuff because he generally hates the U.S. alternatives. His wife is German and I must say that the best beer I have had to date was when I visited them last summer in Karlsruhe.

Windows Media center NO THANXS!!!

http://www.plexapp.com

Actually, Plex is a fork of XBMC. I tried Plex out a while back, and while is really was nice, it really didn't offer much from XBMC. The nice thing about XBMC is that it's available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

BSOD on Mac

I am a Admin of 80 Macs with POWER users and in 2 years NOT ONE!!!! BSOD...

I haven't had a BSOD yet on my Mac, but yesterday, while updating, it did get stuck in a loop, forcing me to restart. Fortunately nothing bad happened.

Great cum back Apple, as always TASTE and STYLE!!!
