If Microsoft chose to be a monopolistic hardware and software company like Apple, PCs might not crash as often. Speaking of crashing, I can't remember the last time my Vista PC crashed or froze or didn't do anything I wanted it to do... and I was able to CHOSE my hardware vendors and build my own. All for less than half of what a comparable Mac would have cost.
Instead of countering false advertising with false advertising of their own, Apple should reconsider their business practices. There's a reason why consumers chose PCs over Macs: choice.

And If I build my own house it's WAAAY cheaper than if a contractor builds it. So what? Remember, a pencil and paper will allow you to do everything a computer does, less the video editing thing, with just a little more work.

And go easy on the "comparable"--sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not.

I know a few Mac users with Xbox 360s. One doesn't buy a Mac "just to run Windows". One buys a Mac to run OS X, and uses Boot Camp to run the occasional Windows-only program once-and-a-great-while, for example web developers who need to test their pages in IE. But you knew that already. Quit trolling. ;)

Well, I quite like the white MacBook. I think it looks really nice, it's Ok with some not-too-rough treatment, it's fast and it is quiet, and Magsafe has saved my life again and again. So if for some reason I needed a laptop to run Windows exclusively, and I can afford a MacBook, why shouldn't I buy a MacBook to run Windows?

(Now the trolls will come out and say: Look, Mac users really use their computers to run Windows! Wrong. Apple sells a rather small portion of its computers to genuine Windows users. On the other hand, I know one guy who did buy a MacBook with the intention to use it as a Windows laptop, and to try out MacOS X. After a few months, his Windows partition was gone. )

Hmmm, funny, I didn't know there's screen like this one. Haven't had a problem with my iMac G5 since August 2005..ehm..that's when I got it.

You are most likely to get this if you have hardware problems. Buy RAM that is too cheap, for example. Or maybe he posted from his Psystar computer :D

To be honest, the only reason vista feels slow compared to xp is because with xp, you're using the latest and greatest in hardware when xp was meant to run on p3 and p4s. That's a huge evolution in hardware. I am sure if you ran vista in 9-10 years time, on thens hardware, it would feel as snappy as xp.

MacOS X versions tend to get faster on the same hardware.

As for Xbox360, I wonder if Mac users that have them, feel guilty of directly contributing to MSs success. I mean they had the chance to bring down MS by choosing the PS3 and making Xbox a failure, but they went with Microsoft that they hate so much. I never understood this.

You are assuming that Mac users buy Macs because they are Apple fanatics. They don't. They buy Macs because the combination of design + quality + service + MacOS X makes them worth their money. When Mac users buy game consoles, they don't say: No Apple console there. XBox is Microsoft, I hate them, therefore I buy a PS3. No, they look at what is available, and they buy what suits them best. I personally prefer the Wii.

And someone posted that Mac users who buy a Dell monitor are hypocrites. What a nonsense. Any Macintosh user (and any Windows user, for that matter) should look at which monitor gives them the best value, considering size, quality, looks, price, and contents of their wallet. There is no reason at all to prefer that monitor and computer should come from the same company; they are all compatible if you make sure you have the right connectors.

If they stopped targeting stupid people, there would be hardly anyone left!

funny and well said... :)

True story:

1. my in-laws have a pc because they are afraid (intimidated by ignorant sales folks) of mac techonology... (go figure)
2. my 67 year old mother has a brand new macbook (her first computer ever, other than the iphone that is)

3. guess who can do video conference daily?

a. the pc-user side of the family cannot get their hardware to work (too complex + does not work consistently), and the video quality off their camera is awful. I cannot help them because I cannot have access to their computer or external hardware...

b. the mac-user side of the family (a.k.a. mother), simply presses a button (ichat), and all works... video, audio, all. Moreover, if I have to do some maintenance, I can do this from 1000 miles away, no problems.

this is why macs are worth their money. Priceless.

Say what? :eek:

This can't be true today, though. I'm just itching to replace our server with a Mac Pro ... so do go on ... I've never heard of this ... How in the world does one install Windows 2003 Server on a Pro? Same way? Boot Camp? :cool:

:apple:

Track down drivers and boot up on a server 2k3 disc.

You have to admit the majority of mac fans hate MS and anything to do with MS by default. Just look at the signature of Sehnsucht for example.

I wonder if the mac fans that bought the 360 subconsioucly feel guilty of betraying Apple. :D

I won't admit to it, because I will not base my view of Apple fans on what happens here or elsewhere on the internet, just as I won't base my view of predominantly MS fans on people here on elsewhere on the internet.

In short, I don't like stereotypical generalizations. Neither should you.

But yeah good point, although I find it personally amusing a company I do work for is planning on migrating to Ubuntu for most of their needs, but I think that is about saving some money on licensing fees because MS in the enterprise can cost some serious money in the long run!

I admin a mixed environment with MS and Ubuntu, and I will say that for many things what you save in licensing you make up for in labor costs. Ubuntu (or any Linux distribution, for that matter) isn't as streamlined IMO when it comes to centralized authentication with cached profile capability, e-mail, and other stuff like application serving.

However it's quite strong for databases, webservers, and proxy stuff.

From what I gather this particular company is planning on migrating to Ubuntu for a lot of the staff because most of their usage would be, and email client, open office, and accessing a database through a web browser, so I'm guessing it would work economically, as it saves on licenses for Windows and Office, and the old database. But I'll be quite happy in my little area with my macs running Pro Tools and soundforge through bootcamp no matter what they decide :)

I like this commercial! but lets be honest PC is not that bad and how often do you get viruses and glitches. I have MacBook Pro and PC Desktop (Build my self) ... No problem with non of them ... but to be honest it's a war wich will never end !

iPhone and Windows mobile it's a different story though ... btw cant wait to get new iPhone!

On the client side it's not too bad at all, and it's extremely easy to use (again IMO).

Server-side is a bit more complicated than Windows though.

Frankly, I find the use of the word "fanboy" to be a lame copout - it's a word people throw out when they have nothing substantive to add to the debate. Generally thrown at Apple users by Microsoft users who have no idea what the other side is about.

*Shrugs*

A fanboy to me is someone who is so blinkered in their opinions as to make debate a virtual impossibility. Referring to 'Apple users' and 'Microsoft users' as if the two are mutually exclusive is kind of testament to that.

Ultimately they're just as much trolls as the obvious Windows zealots and have as little to add.

Haha, but one group actually has decent hard- and software. Guess who ;)

The ones who use the gear they actually need? :)

I'd say it's more like boxed wine versus fine champaign. They are very different in what they offer, one is more expensive, more sought after by those with good taste, the other is cheap, mass produced, and will satisfy the pallet of the casual imbiber.

It comes down to what you want in your product, if you want something that specifically fits your needs and desires then go with :apple:, if you want something that fits a general mold, is cheap, and mass produced go PC.

Here is a better analogy for you.

Mac = pretty box packaging
PC = bland but functional packaging

Mac = bottles sourced from third party
PC = same bottles sourced from third party

Mac = Stella
PC = Fosters

Mac = £10 per bottle
PC = £2 per bottle.

We've got to get some new trolls around here. The current crop is just too unoriginal and boring. Not too terribly bright, either.

I doubt he's old enough to drink it.

*Dammit* ... there I go again feeding it! :rolleyes:

Actually feeding it here might bind its attention and other threads that have not gone down the drain already might be safe for once... ;)

My point about stella and fosters was that you can't really say which one is better than what. same for osx and windows.
