Another good (but slightly subtle) part of this advert is the;
"Hi, I'm a Mac"
"I'm a Megan"
Exchange at the end. It sets a very different image to the "...and I'm a PC" at the end of the Laptop Hunter ads, as instead of portraying the owner of the laptop as "one of us now" is points out that the computer is responding to her...

Very subtle, but it helps to humanise the mac even further...
Wow-- good insight. If you'd asked me before, I'd have said it was "cute", but I think you're right-- it's more "warm" than "cute".

Why would anyone buy a Mac just to run Windows. Also why would a mac user buy a Microsoft product like Xbox360 considering they claim MS sucks all the time. Hypocrite much?

We bought two Mac Pros in 2006 at my former employer to run Server 2k3 because they were faster than the fastest dell we co9uld get our hands on and they were 2 grand cheaper.

Go to the console section of the video games subforum in here and see the popularity of each. It's obvious that for some strange reason, even though mac fans hate MS, they still choose to buy the Xbox instead of buying a PS3 and hitting MS where it hurts. One chance to hurt MS and they blew it.

As an avid Mac user who also owns a 360, I can tell you that I don't hate Microsoft; I hate Windows. Like most consumers out there, I have prefereances towards one product or another, not the company that creates them. I'd never buy a Sony laptop but am perfectly happy with my Sony TV; I'd never buy an LG phone but am perfectly happy with other LG appliances I own.

Most of us see a difference between Microsofts operating system products and their gaming console products. Dislike for one and like for the other is far from hypocritical.

Just answer my question instead of replying with a seperate question.

Why DO so many mac users buy something from MS, a company they despise so much?

The only reason I'd buy several XBoxes is that MS sells them at a loss. Happy now?

That doesn't even make sense. Why would MS making a loss would make them buy it? Surely if they didn't buy it, MS would have made and even greater loss. The loss was only due to the RRODs. Now mac fans always go on about how reliable hardware is worth paying premium for and yet buy the unreliable 360 instead of the far more reliable and capable PS3. It's strange. Hypocrisy all around.

Jeez calm down Troll boy, I was making a joke brought on by your incredible assumption that all mac users hate MS, implying that 360 sold=loss to MS, ergo MS haters buying 360=loss to MS.

If you knew anything about the current generation of consoles you'd know that both the PS3 and 360 were/are sold at a loss, and that's before the RROD debacle. All the main console companies make most of their cash by selling games, yes every game sold for the main systems = a bit of money to the console makers.

And Kudos has to be given for MS at least for admitting that the 360 was a mess and extending the warranty to 3 years for RROD failures, something which Apple could at times take a lesson from (Nvidia GPUs overheating, dodgy LCD screens, cheap ass FW chipsets, chirping G5s, sometimes Apple hold their hands up, but they sometimes annoyingly don't say a word when evidence of a fault is there)

Have Windows and Mac market shares switch and see how long that lasts. Safari is rife with security holes that can compromise one's system. One of which was demonstrated by a hacker last year, and it only took a minute or two to exploit.

Ok, I know you're just trolling, but I just have to feed you. "Security holes"? For any of those alleged exploits to work YOU HAVE TO BE THE ADMIN and give password permission to deliberately install the questionable software. With my password I can start installing ANY software in just a few seconds---so I'm faster than a hacker?

I love how you guys use quantifiers completely unsupported by facts: "rife"?

im a mac fanboy but i use windows because there are several things that i like to use that are i admit beter in windows plus i play a few games for windows i like both but i would prefer a mac over a windows any time and i own a ps3 too the reason i refuse to buy a 360 cause i refuse to pay 50 bucks to play online games

I don't what the virus was. But I had to clean reinstall MacOS it rendered the system inoperable after rebooting on its own.

You don't even need to believe me:

Those dodgy versions of iWorks that floated around on the internet sometime ago contained payloaders and trojans. The story was widely publicized. I have no time for people who steal software, and they get what they deserve. But it highlighted the point it's as possible to embed bad stuff in any software in mac software as it is on the windows platform.

You are not immune to security threats on any platform. If you give a bad piece of software root permissions to install on Linux, it could wipe out your machine.

So you admit you are a pirate. Does your mother or your ISP know yet?

Or maybe they bought a 360 knowing that MS was initially taking a loss on each unit sold

If 200 million people bought a PS3 tomorrow and burned them straight away I'm sure Sony would suffer a massive loss!

Actually, I think Sony initially did take a ~$200 loss on every PS3 unit sold when they were first released...at launch each PS3 cost about $800 to make or something like that.

The "I'm a Mac" ads are so so out dated. It makes Apple look really cheap and lazy.

They have how many billions of dollars in cash and they can't figure to update their ads.

I think the current Zunes are crap, but that's due to the design, not because of the label.

I would never buy a 360, but that's because they're horribly unreliable, not because they're an MS product.

And there's no causality there by the way ;)

AFAIK they're still making quite a loss, and with the Yen recently being stronger than the Euro and Pound they're loosing even more, but their gamble is to get enough systems in enough homes and they'll make the money from software sales, time will tell!

Yeah because Macs never cra

That's awesome. I have only been a Mac user for four years now. I have never been lucky enough to see this screen. Thanks for posting it. I always wondered what it would look like if something actually went wrong with my mac. :D

Definitely. I thought the exact same thing when viewing the PC ads, and then now seeing this one.

The "I'm [so and so] and I'm a PC" phrase says to me that I'm generic, faceless and lost in the crowd.

In response, "Hi, I'm Megan" speaks of individualism and being a unique person.

Well played on this one. Subtle, insightful and well written.

But both Microsoft and Apple ads aren't trying to sell us, they're trying to sell the layman who doesn't know anything. Apple says that Macs don't get viruses have all the software you need bundled and people jump on that.

So building the unit for that there is demand does not add to the cost? And then selling it for less than it took to build it does not hit your bottom line? Explain that to me, please.

She forgot to mention that she needs an affordable computer (Cause not everyone is Bill Gates or Steve Jobs), PC forgot to mention the there are numerous antivirus out there, headaches usually only go to people who have NO idea what they are doing, and crashing DOES happen on Macs. It happens, not as often as it does on a PC, AND it doesn't happen all that much on PC's anymore. This little fanboy issue is STUPID! It's all about personal CHOICE! I like PC's WITH VISTA! OMG! I like Apples gadgets and gizmos - iPod, iPhone. Apple has a better media player (iTunes). Apple has the wrong idea by not offering there audio in .mp3, though AAC is getting a lot more support nowadays. PCs have an overall higher support rate as there are more peripherals and software made for them. These are just arguments that I have heard and I do share some them as my OWN personal choice. None of them are wrong, none are right. Buy what you like, share about what you don't but don't take it overboard.

I disagree that all opinions are of equal value and are equally correct. That's demonstrably not true. And just because some people are enthusiasts does not make them fanboys, with all the supposed derogatory baggage the term carries.

AAC = ADVANCED Audio Coding. Designed to be the successor of MP3, and generally achieves better sound quality than MP3. It's standard on iPods, Sony PS3, PSP, SonyEricsson and Nokia phones, Nintendo, etc. So why is it that Apple is wrong?

Does everything have to be black-and-white for you, BMWFan? Is it not conceivable that there are people who are Mac users but who also appreciate some of the good things Microsoft does produce? Mac user != Microsoft hater.

As a mod I would think it obvious for you not to feed the troll.

Boxed wine vs. fine champaign

It's Coke vs Pepsi all over again. In other words, personal taste.

I'd say it's more like boxed wine versus fine champaign. They are very different in what they offer, one is more expensive, more sought after by those with good taste, the other is cheap, mass produced, and will satisfy the pallet of the casual imbiber.

It comes down to what you want in your product, if you want something that specifically fits your needs and desires then go with :apple:, if you want something that fits a general mold, is cheap, and mass produced go PC.

Agree. And to say more they are attacking Microsoft which isn't so obvious case in the MS ads.
It's like a old record that still plays yet most of the world already moved on to something different.
You seriously have to be stupid to believe that MS crashes often and viruses install by themselves every time you type a phrase in google search. But I guess that's what apple believes about it's future customers.

Say what?

This can't be true today, though. I'm just itching to replace our server with a Mac Pro ... so do go on ... I've never heard of this ... How in the world does one install Windows 2003 Server on a Pro? Same way? Boot Camp?

:apple:

If they stopped targeting stupid people, there would be hardly anyone left!
