Yeah because Macs never cra

mheyy1.jpg

I've owned my iMac since 2006 and I've never seen that screen. The only time I reboot my Mac is when an update requires it.

Except work with Access databases. >_>

But that's pretty much it. :p

True, but I really blame Microsoft for that one, since for some unknown reason they decided to not include that functionality in the Mac Office suite.

Well the first round of response ads from Apple didn't seem to bite so they are going back to la la land

Engadget's take

“According to Apple, there aren’t any PCs with fast processors and big screens that work without viruses, crashes or headaches. But folks, this isn’t reality, this is advertising.”

It will be interesting to see if microsoft gives a direct response.

Here's the deal: Apple doesn't need to exaggerate - the target viewer for these ads knows all too well how aggravating Windows machines are. The people these ads will sway are the ones nodding their heads in pain and understanding when they see these commercials, thinking about heading to their local Apple store for a "fresh start."

The people these ads won't sway come here to MacRumors instead to rant and rave about Apple fanboys and overpriced Apple hardware. ;)

The Apple ads are far more honest than the MS one about the requirement to spend $30,000 to fill your iPod...

Interestingly, this is congruous to MS's business model of dishing out $2000 to consumers as an incentive to purchase PCs running Windows.

Perhaps mixing good Scotch and generic store brand cola would be a more authentic comparison.

As MS's $300 million ad campaign trudges on, it is notable how easily and effortlessly Apple's ads counter MS's exorbitant endeavors - the Bean Counter ad clearly illustrates this as well: A clear - simple - to the point modality is often more effective than a myriad of convoluted diversions.

Hmm... Apples ads countered?? The main point of the Microsoft ads were PRICE. Apple didnt explain why the exorbitant price differences make a Mac worthwhile. They rehashed the same line which I think they have used for 3 years now, and BTW is old news. Vista 64bit is a VERY solid OS, it used to have problems but now is really reliable. I run a department using 5 8core workstations, for 2 yrs it has been brilliant.

My roomate has a new Macbook.. we got a new Epson printer from the Apple store. My Vista laptop could use the printer immediately without using the disk to supply drivers, Windows went online and got them all automatically. The Mac couldnt do this...

First of all, every single one of these Mac ads does explain why the higher prices are worthwhile. Better customer support. No bloatware. More secure. More stable. On and on and on. What part of "value proposition" do you not understand?

And if Vista is in fact as wonderful as you claim, then Microsoft has nothing to worry about. Everyone will love Vista and it will sell like hotcakes. For years.

Oh, wait...

Hmm, I just bought a new Brother color laser AIO. My Mac recognized it immediately - the drivers were already built into Leopard. I didn't need the install CD at all, nor did the Mac need to "go online and get them all automatically."

My Windows partition couldn't do this...

I refer you to this

When I was doing my thesis, I avoided using the universities Macs and brought my own Compaq laptop instead.

The reason I did this was that the Uni' Macs were horrible crashing monsters, I don't think I could go more than a few hours before they would die. The Powermacs were better, but still not great.

I went with a compaq becuase I couldn't afford the insane mac prices of the day, and needed a computer that I could control. No Blue screen of death, no viruses, no malware, no crashing...

its amazing what happens when you actually have control over the computers you have to use...

My Mac has crashed occasionally, nothing major...

I think it says something when someone decides Macs are too risky to write their thesis on.

Maybe Microsoft should tell us in their next commercial why a virus on their operating system is causing 9 billion dollars in damages.

Did you read it? He said that the university's macs were too risky. I honestly don't blame him one bit. All of the computers in my universities computer labs were crap. No one bothered to maintain them properly so all of them - Macs and PCs - crashed constantly.

I honestly think they're doing something wrong then.

He also said that his own Mac crashed occasionally which implies he prefers to write on his own PC than on his own Mac. Now it's funny to see mac users fall back on to the "maintainance" excuse. I thought Mac didn't have to be maintained? You guys sure don't take that stance when PCs crash.

As for the "superior" customer service that LagunaSol keeps on going on about, he are some excellent examples.

compare that with Dell

Worst crashing problem I ever had was at one particular small company I worked for running NT 4.0. Crashes were weekly if not daily occurrences. The system admin was the comptroller, who doubled as IT. He wasn't the sharpest pencil in any drawer. Led to a company joke, "Allan heard your comps running good, so he's on his way down to eff it up".

They were. The problem was that the employee who supervised the labs didn't check up on the students hired to take care of the machines. No one bothered to do any basic mantienence on them so they never worked properly.

Deep Freeze and Radmind.

That is all.

Wait, I think that's the same guy that runs our IT shop. ;)

Being an IT chief over a Windows-based organization would be a fate worse than death. Ask me how solid SharePoint is for us.

The average home user doesn't need to do that much mantainance but ANY computer put in a computer lab environment where it will be used by a dozen different people a day doing a wide variety of work with a wide variety of programs is going to require mantainence - regardless of the operating system.

Doesn't change the fact that his personal mac still crashes and he made a conscious decision to use his personal Pc to write his dissertation just because of that.

I know that, you know that and I'm sure most of them knew that. The problem was that these guys figured out that they could get paid and do nothing because they weren't being supervised.
