Waiting to update my 2009 mac mini not that it's no longer supported. Just want a reasonably priced headless mac.
Now reluctantly enduring a Windows 10 laptop that took days to configure and to get rid of the amount of crap from Microsoft and the OEM. Still waiting Apple.

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini 2.5 i5 16GB 512 SSD. I upgraded the RAM and added an SSD and it has become my home system. This was my first Apple OS X product that made me give up windows and go full on to the Mac. I still have it and it's running perfectly, I've kept it on Mavericks although I can update to High Sierra which I plan to once HS irons out some other updates.

It's because of the Mac Mini and how well I liked OS X that I recently bought the 2017 MBP 15"
I would buy another updated Mac Mini when and if they ever release one maybe a 2018 model?

I couldn’t wait any longer so I got a 2017 iMac 5k.

Apple beat out my patience!

The death of my 27" iMac GPU convinced me that I want nothing to do with all-in-ones anymore. I was going to buy a Mac mini until I noticed my old iMac was much faster than a "new" mini. Instead I built a PC. That led me to getting a Surface Pro to replace my MacBook Pro when it died and I couldn't get a magsafe Mac. When my iPhone bent I was told it was my fault, and at that point there was really no reason to stay with Apple.

For productivity I don't like windows, but Apple forced my hand. I had to buy when I did and they had no products that competed on performance or price. I want to switch back to Apple. I want to get an iPhone X, but right now I am in the market for a 7" tablet and well...

I want to switch back. Apple has a much better system, but it's like Steve said. It's easy to add features, but it's really hard to take them away. Forcing me to Android/Windows has made me rely on features that Apple just doesn't offer. I would buy it today if they did. Forget my current hardware investments. Take my money. Apple just doesn't have any products right now that do what I need.

Best server ever for a home email server on a static-IP business line. So easy to use.

I just hope they can consolidate this into an AirPort in the future so I have one less device, perhaps with an ARM A11X processor running Mac OS Server.

Apple said the Mac mini was in the works on April 2017:

▪ Near the end, John Paczkowski had the presence of mind to ask about the Mac Mini, which hadn’t been mentioned at all until that point. Schiller: “On that I’ll say the Mac Mini is an important product in our lineup and we weren’t bringing it up because it’s more of a mix of consumer with some pro use. … The Mac Mini remains a product in our lineup, but nothing more to say about it today.”

I don't see how saying it remains in the lineup (true), but nothing more to say means thar a new mini is "in the works". To me that could mean exactly what it states...the product remains on sell and there is nothing else to say. In other words, no discontinued announcement, no new model announcement, just stay the course, much to my dismay.

I'd like to upgrade to a new mini someday, but it seems Apple is intent in pushing me back to the Windows world.

If Apple is not interested in maintaining its hardware, why not farm it out to Intel as a NUC or another manufacturer who could assure compliance with Mac OS. Alternatively, there are certainly a lot of flavors of linux with a comparable look and feel of Mac OS without any cost or having to deal with hackintosh issues.

I really want a new, top spec Mac mini... my money is here if you want it apple.

I'm afraid the problem is that not enough people are interested in buying a Mac Mini.

Let's face it, how many out of a hundred would buy it? Most regular Joes these days want a laptop, maybe an iMac which is convenient with everything included (mouse, keyboard, screen, sound, etc).

People now want convenience, not being able to customize. I used to be like that as well, but now I buy a laptop, keep it 5 years, sell it second hand for a reasonable price and buy a new one.

The Mac Mini is a niche product, and probably does not create enough revenue to warrant further development, or even production. Please remember that even if something still could be profitable, a company is not gonna pursue it if the same investment of time, resources, talent, and money could be even more profitable when used towards something else.

Would you buy a Mac Mini? Yes! Would I buy one? Maybe?!? Would even 5% of who walks into an Apple store buy one? Sorry, but the answer is no.

So, the Mac Mini isn't going to be updated.

Did someone here about an update for the Mac Pro?

And how old is the Mac Pro? 5 years?

So true. My first Mac was a 2009 Mac Mini, and without that gateway drug experience I would not have bought an iMac 5K this year. But I did.

Apple is missing its best opportunity to attract new users to the platform by not having an affordable model that familiarizes new people with the Mac environment.

Apple needs to kill off these relics and simplify its product lines.

Kill of the Mac Mini, iPad Mini, MacBook Air, iPhone 6s, Apple TV (non-4K) and the iPod touch along with a bunch of cables and accessories no one ever buys (in-ear Apple earphones that have existed for donkeys, 30-pin cables etc.)

Unfortunately, that would require competent and disciplined leadership that wasn't just chasing Wall Street earning and running pet SJW passion projects.

Apple is way too busy making watch bands and figuring out details like how to cram tons of SKU's into the Apple inventory, how a supply chain works, and how to piss off all your developers, users, manufacturers and peers. No time to throw an Intel NUC board into a small case and load it up with OSX.

I'd buy a Mini running macOS on an ARM A11X (or newer) with a big heat sink. Likely a lot faster than the current Mac Mini, and could come with a full slate of Apple apps, plus soon a decent number of "fat" Mac App store apps. It might sell better than expected if priced closer to an Apple TV+DRAM+SSD, and still have big margins. But those A-XYZ chips probably aren't in production yet.

The 2014 was no upgrade, but a sad devolution.

For my needs (music software mostly), I stocked up on five 2011 and 2012 Minis with i5 and i7, SSDs, with RAM up to 16GB. The are plenty reliable and powerful.

I recommend CraigsList, where you can still find/test nice pre-2014 machines. Having said that, I'd love it if Apple came up with nice updated quad-core, SSD, and generous RAM.

It's dead. I hope not, but it's probably dead.

Then Apple should NOT be insulting nor misleading customers selling a 3yr old machine at retail today prices.

This article will have 500 comments by the morning...

:p

As it should be. Judging from the Thread “New Mac mini soon” or whatever that crazy long thread is this is high time long overdue. An apology by engineers and CEO on this product should be made.
