iWeb is in dire need of an update. It's essentially useless to even the most basic web developer, except perhaps as a sandbox for shape and color. The whole application needs to be completely rethought (with HTML5 in mind). But that will have to wait till iLife '11.

For this event, iPod Touch 3G for the win. :)

Please that guy sounds like a girl not to menton stars in the most crappy movies. I do wonder why no one has picked him up to play in a movie thats actully worth watching.

edit:
i kind of lmao with Superbad (thx for pointing that out below cilliano)... but i guess that was for the most part due to Jonah and McLovin'... :D
(hangover was good as well....)

but back on the subject,

Shuffle with 3cm screen?? what is that all about?
I think they will make the shuffle even smaller, as in realy small... like button-on-your-jacket-small.
And the nano could be the realy small iPod touch lil' brother... with wifi for sync' with itune....

i wondering how good is the application on iLife'11 that can create an app out of it... it will be cool!

I doubt Apple will release an application in iLife to create apps for the App Store. Why would they undermine their XCode userbase? Especially when an easy drag and drop way to create apps for iOS devices via the AppStore is already available in www.appomator.com

"One last thing... The iPad is also now available in Denmark, so that you don't have to drive 500 km to Germany to get one. Danish people, rejoice!" *Applauses, crowd goes wild*

Well, at least I can hope.. >_<

I hope we will get a 128GB iPod touch and, by extension, a 64GB iPhone, but the chances are slim, since flash drives have not gone down in price this year. However, they did up the storage for the iPhone in 2007, and since this year has been a big re-design for it (plus the antenna issues), Apple might be willing to do this. Doubt it though, and a shame because it's the one thing stopping me from getting an iPhone 4.

My Predictions:

(1) iTunes X = complete rewrite of iTunes, 64-bit, Cocoa, social networking better integrated, $.99 TV Shows from Disney and Fox to start now, longer iTunes preview. No cloud-based iTunes.

(2) iPod Nano = small 3x3 touch screen. 8/16 gb. iPod Shuffle is no more.

(3) iPod Touch = Retina Display, FaceTime camera, 3 Megapixel back camera w/ LED, 32/64 gb. Old model with faster chipset retained at lower price point, 16gb. No 3g or GPS.

(4) iPod Classic = lives to fight another day, possibly with more storage if that is feasible. Lower price point if the same storage. Touch will not go to 128 due to chip cost.

(5) iTV = not seen as a revolution by Apple, but finally a real update to the Apple TV. iOS, apps, based mostly on streaming media. Possibly no remote without using another iOS device (which I will be happy about so long as it is over bluetooth. The current Wi-Fi implementation is laggy at best, but that could just be the pathetic lag on the Apple TV).

(6) iOS 4.1 release = for iPhone and iPod Touch this month, for iPad in November (beta released today). Possibly Garageband for iPad given the guitar in the promo, but I highly doubt it.

No iLife, No iWork. No Mac updates. This will all be in October.

If they don't put in 3G in the touch, I'm afraid they've lost the ball.

I'll wait another 12 months or get an iPad 2.

Looking at the old arstechnica autopsy of last year's nano, I found most of the case filled with a battery. If they eliminate the camera and much function, this new iPod-mini-nano could have enough battery life. Expect a sub-10 hour run time for that mini-screen iPod.

My Predictions:

(1) iTunes X = complete rewrite of iTunes...

(2) iPod Nano = small 3x3 touch screen. 8/16 gb. iPod Shuffle is no more.

1) I sure hope so. iTunes is good, but it NEEDS to be far better.

2) No Shuffle sans screen would be sad. Hopefully they keep it as a very low priced mp3 player.

I think the iPod classic is going to die soon, maybe not this year.

The reason is that the only point of having a classic is the big storage, and is a bit silly that has HDD still these days. However 160GB SSD is extremely expensive and 128GB would make sense, but still expensive and even tho would be a downgrade in capacity would be an upgrade in weight and thickness.

As soon SSD will kill HDD there will be *no reason* to keep manufacturing the iPod classic.

Yer ok

for a long time now every September has been ipods, its going to be ipods with one more thing and with a few numbers thrown in we've sold x of this and that.

i think this because of Steve still saying its a hobby which wouldn't warrant its own event. plus what apple app hasn't been updated for agessss. the remote app. so new tv, new updated remote app to control it with. all lovely.

new touch, nano, classic etc

Anyone in Vegas taking bets on Apple product rumors? That would make a fun betting venue not to mention how the odds would be set.

iPod Nano 3cm*3cm - Like a Watch?

I like this rumor:

Wear your iPod Nano with an 3cm*3cm Touchscreen on a watch strap.
Wear your iPod Nano as cool new watch everywhere you want. Sound comes over Bluetooth.

Yeahhh, thats it!

"One last thing... The iPad is also now available in Denmark, so that you don't have to drive 500 km to Germany to get one. Danish people, rejoice!" *Applauses, crowd goes wild*

Well, at least I can hope.. >_<

Perhaps when a few anti-competitive types sells off its retail store holdings in Denmark, this may happen. I'd love to see an Apple Store somewhere on the Strøget.

Did anyone consider how cool it would be to wear this new square nano/shuffle like a fashion accessory showing album artwork? Like the shuffle showed in the picture.

What if it's not the Nano and not the Shuffle, but an entirely new iPod? They would then keep the the Nano and the Shuffle, maybe discontinue the Classic, and just add a new one to the line... It's a huge change from the current Nano, why not keep the Nano then?

They are going to merge the Nano and the Shuffle and call it the Naffle. It'll be like a clip Shuffle with a touch screen, no wifi, camera or 3G. Simple and cheap for the kids, grannies, running etc. Everyone else will buy an itouch or iphone if they want to connect to the web, play games etc (although the Naffle will have limited games/apps pre-loaded).

Touch screen + running is a no-go. Runners need buttons for sightless operation.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't an iPod Touch with 3G called an iPhone?

No, the problem with the iPhone is that you're tied to idiotic contracts that make you pay monthly for years. And some people don't talk 2 hours every day and don't want a contract, but the iPhone with Pay & Go is way to expensive, so you just keep your non-smartphone and get an iPod Touch that actually can connect to the internet whenever you want and not just at home.

Maybe they should have used a looker like you?

Seriously, are you part monkey? Why would someone so ugly use their photo as an avatar?

Mystery iLife app? What about an app to author iTunes Extras? What ever happened to rumors of that coming out?

The current Shuffle has no buttons, the buttons are on the earphone cable. The Nano would get the same cable, so you could operate it without using the touch screen. So the operation for this new square touch screen thing would be exactly the same as for the Shuffle.

If the touch got a frot facing camera what about a mobile iPhoto. Teens especially girls would love that! But we will find tomorrow haha.

Why teen girls?

I don't think the new and improved iPod touch will sell for any less than $199 - and that's only if they have a 16gb model. infact I think it will be 32gb at $279 at a minimum. New 8gb & 16gb lower specced iPod touch "mini" at $149 & $199 will fill the gap.

Those ipod touch prices are not realistic at all. The most unrealistic one is $99 for an 16GB ipod touch. I'd say thy decrease the price to maybe $179 or so.

My guesses:
  • 16GB 3rd gen $179
  • 32GB -$279
  • 64GB - $379
No 128GB ipod touch since it would be too expensive. If you haven't noticed .. flash memory prices have not come down since last year.

Alright. Some of you people are getting a bit confused. The $99 touch would be LAST YEARS MODEL. (AKA 3rd gen) There will not be a 16GB 4th gen.

  • 16GB 3rd gen $99

If the rumored iTV could run apps how in the heck would people interact with them. The idevices work because you hold them. The device itself becomes your input device and it makes otherwise pretty lame apps actually kind of cool. The only way to get somewhat close to the level of interactivity with the iTV would be to use a Wii type controller. Maybe you could use an iPhone or iPod touch but it still wouldn't give you the same touch screen interactivity most apps are designed for. To me this just seems like a massive move in the wrong direction from where Apple has been going with trying to change the way people interact with software.
