I'm beginning to like it when we didn't have all these rumors and crap going around. You just went to bed and woke up the next day, waited until 10A (on the west coast) and just went from there.

Now its this theory and that theory, not that I dont enjoy it, but we're all over the map tonight.

Now we see an $899 24" display, possible docking system? Even for $899 thats still too damn high. Even a nice $499 24" display with speakers and a $200 docking station is still $200 short of the expected price. Another failed product IMO.

what would happen in terms of ventilation and wireless reception when a closed laptop is put inside a dock like this? Maybe part of the contraption would solve for these problems. This could explain for some of the cost, although doesn't really propose any interesting functionality for the customer. Just kind of essential elements for the thing to work at all. I just don't know how much of a market there would be for a laptop docking station.

this seems less and less likely/attractive; no firewire, starting at 1300? this would be an uncharacteristically regressive move. making you spend another 150 for a black macbook is one thing, making consumers spend 1300 for a macbook sans firewire is another; as a stockholder i would be very upset.

Where's the 20" and 30" models?

What about Mac minis and Mac Pro's-could there be some kind of connector that attaches to make the display woek on those.

Also Mac mini and iMac could be updated the next week, I guess.

I'm with you, but Apple really doesn't seem to care about OS X gaming.:(

thats because they thought that the type of people who buy macs werent into gaming, but these are the same people who buy ipods and iphones and look whats happened there, the guy who made Trism made 250,000 dollars in a few months and trism wasnt even that great! theres a HUGE market for this, and think about it- macs are all about compatibility "made for ipod" and what not, or like when you buy different apple accessories how it shows a little picture of which ipods it will work for on the page, etc.

now think if they did this with games:
"Crysis"- MBP Early 2008, Late 2008
"Half Life 2"- MBP all 2007, Early 2008, Late 2008 and MacBook Late 2008
"Peggle"- MacBook late all 2007 and 2008, all MacBook Pro

(but wit little icons instead of words)

it makes sense.

Did someone say "leeks"?

lol its a vegetable

...regression... recession... depression, come on, everybodys doing it, apples gotta get in on it too!

$899 for a display ?? Better be at least 30" or multitouch, or something.

$899 for a mac mini with bluray would make more sense than a 24" display.

Maybe the lesson were supposed to take away from this is, "stop reading too much into what AppleInsider 'confirms'."

Dell displays are better than Apple's for a 3rd the price. I don't know why anyone would be excited about this.

With all of these leaks I am soo confused as to what is going on tomorrow...
Which I like...

All I hope is that I am happy in 12 hours :).

The amount of *leaks* this time is astonishing. I really wouldn't be surprised if apple is behind everyone of them tomorrow and when steve jobs goes *boom* we are all surprised.

Hmm... if I had to guess, I would say the stock market will react harshly if Apple doesn't release a notebook below $1000 (at least $999). If I were to act solely on these rumors I'd be selling my Apple stock right now in hopes of taking advantage of the dip that would be sure to follow…

But something seems missing from this picture. I cannot imagine Apple increasing the entry-level price point of their notebook computers at this point (though I disagree that they have to reduce it to remain competitive). I'm going to guess that there must be something more to the announcement tomorrow and I'll ride it out, curious to see what happens. :)

And yeah... $900 for a 24" display? There's got to be something more to it...

so apparently the spotlight is on notebooks
and a cinema display?

You'll need a nice large display for when the 15" screen just isn't enough space.

As for $900... LOL!

I just bought a 24" widescreen monitor this summer for $500, and mine has a built in HDTV tuner and plenty of connections on the back for my other home entertainment gadgets. The only thing this monitor will have on my Samsung is the LED lighting. And being incompatible with 90% of graphics cards out there if it does in fact have Display Port.

$899 for a dock?

Wouldn't sliding A MacBook into the dock generate more heat?

I wish they could make a dock without the screen. I really don't need it. When I'm at home, I prefer to use an external keyboard and mouse with my macbook. Since the MacBook has only 2 USB ports, those are taken, so I have a USB hub for those plus my printer and iPod dock.

One of my cousin has an HP laptop with the HP quickdock. I like the fact that it's one connector that has 6 USB ports, VGA / s-video / component video for an external display, ethernet port, audio ports for speakers, a power jack to charge the notebook and a power button incase you have an external display and want to turn on the notebook with the lid close.

If Apple makes a simple dock like this, I would buy it, but a $899 dock is too much.

Maybe one day, Apple will get rid of the iMac and in order to get the desktop experience, you would need to buy a MacBook and one of these display docks.

That's a rather ignorant post. HP? Proven record? Really? IPS panels made by HP that you've used?
These are amazing
http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/10/hp-gets-color-critical-with-30-inch-dreamcolor-lp2480xz-lcd/

HP's have been much better that dells and apple's, The only benefit ever to using an apple display is, that it matches the mac pro, and that it has firewire inputs.

WHY oh WHY can't dell and HP act as a firewire hub in addition to the usb and memory card readers!

I Call B.s.

No way is apple raising the price of the macbook to 1299 when economics is free falling. Broke consumers + Higher prices = fail. Apple deserves a benefit of a doubt, stop overreacting everyone.

Can't we let these rumors go now, for goodness sake. This time tomorrow we will know everything. In fact the show begins in 12 hours and we are still creating more hype? See it's not Apple's fault it's the Apple fanboys who create all these rumors and hype, then Apple comes out and showcases their new product line which appears to be lackluster because people were expecting so much more based on the hype that the fanboys created. Enough already.
