Dell displays are better than Apple's for a 3rd the price. I don't know why anyone would be excited about this.

Define "better", please.

If you mean a better pixel response time, or higher dynamic contrast ratio… you're right.

But if you mean in terms of actual colour accuracy and usefulness in a creative professional setting… well, take a guess.

The Apple 30" is overpriced compared to the Dell, sure, as they both use IPS panels and the Apple has only one video input.

But the Apple 23" is a significantly better type of panel compared to the Dell 24", which also happens to suffer from some pretty nasty output lag.

$899 for a display ?? Better be at least 30" or multitouch, or something.

$899 for a mac mini with bluray would make more sense than a 24" display.

Maybe the lesson were supposed to take away from this is, "stop reading too much into what AppleInsider 'confirms'."

it's the new apple tv models

1. NO BLU-RAY

2. THERE IS NO 13" MBP

3. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THIS DOCK BS...

Thank YOU!!

A decent blu ray player still cost around $300, what the he!! are people thinking when they expect an $899 laptop to include a $300 dollar device.

As everyone else. I hope the prices before are wrong. My wife was really hoping for a cheaper MacBook (she as an aging iBook, and I'm the one with a MBP  ) so we were really hoping for that, but 899 makes sense for a dockable display. It really goes with the dockable rumor thats floating around.

Now the entire new line will all have their ports on the left side. Just slip it in and boom a 24" iMac you can take on the road. It makes sense, but man, they better offer a cheaper MacBook than 1299, ouch....

I could easily see Apple dissolving the MB/MBP naming distinction and just have them all be MacBooks.

Also as for 12 price points, perhaps other than the 8 laptop price points there will be 4 more for new Cinema Displays all with docking capacity. 20, 24, 27, 30 inch displays.

That is exactly what I thought. This cannot be true. Apple would not rise their price $200 more. How does that appeal to comsumers? If it was 1200, i am getting a Dell. I am sorry. :(

I really hope these prices are wrong too! I planned on getting my sister a macbook for Christmas but geeze. $1200.

Maybe I'm way off, but what about a dock with a 24" Cinema Display and a bluray player? Strictly a media station? It probably would come with a mouse and a keyboard at that price as well.

I know I am not the first person to suggest this, but with all the rumors coming out making heads spin, my gut is telling me that Steve Jobs has created a group at Apple to create these fake rumors and photos. This go around of rumors seems so chaotic.

With NO FireWire :mad::mad::mad:
You have to read between the lines. The statement was "No Firewire 400", not "No Firewire." They are going to do a single FW800 port and include an adapter obviously.

It could be an HDTV with integrated Blue Ray/AppleTV and it also docks with a 13" Macbook pro. That might be worth 899
Apple wouldn't give you an HDTV tuner, you wouldn't have a reason to buy your currently airing TV shows off the iTMS then. ;)

...not even close to the Apple display. The viewing angle of the Dell is horrendous at 160/170 to the Apple's 178. The Dell is worthless for serious color work with that viewing angle, plus the Apple display has a higher vertical resolution of 1200 pixels to the Dell's 1080...which is extremely valuable if you are a professional and need all you can get for palettes, menus or simply screen real estate.

Take care

Art and Structure

If the new Apple 24" monitor is in fact 1200px tall (which at this point we don't even know if it is a monitor ) then the two displays are different aspect ratios. So you may see more pixels for pallets to fit on, but to the average home user the 24" Dell will appear larger since watching movies on it will yield a larger picture (since the Dell wont have the top/bottom letter boxing on 16:9 content and will be the same diagonal resolution).

I have a few things to say.

An $899 display is extremely expensive, but if the rumors are true, this is an LED display. $899 for a high-res LED display. That's cheap.

There is still a possibility of the $800 MacBook.

And that list of prices isn't necessarily true.

And, I am excited for tomorrow. :D

Edit:
Keep in mind the conference is supposed to be focused on notebooks. Note displays.

$1,299 starting MacBook?

EPIC FAIL APPLE

I'll be holding on to my current MacBook for years then.

It should be noted that the $1299 presumed MacBook price point is labeled "Better" so is not the entry level MacBook. We still don't know what the entry level MacBook price will be.

I'll just wait until tomorrow but my current MacBook looks like it for the long haul.

I'm just not able to willing to spend much more then $1,000 anymore on my Macs. We'll see what Good is then.

Ok... Everyone slow down - How do we know that these are US dollars? They could be pounds or australian dollars or anything. Personally I hope they are Aussie dollars. This would bean a $200 price cut for the MacBook in Australia... And would make the laptops about $900 US dollars. And this new display would be about $600.

I would easily pay $899 (Australian) for a 24" display of Apple quality and a great new slide in dock. Maybe this dock will also feature Firewire for the MB and include TV tuners or heaps of extra USB ports etc...

There would be fans to keep the laptop cool extra graphics etc...

Keep an open mind... And relax for another 11 hours, 38 minutes and 12 seconds!!

I'm pretty sure after this we can clearly say.

We know nothing for sure.
I think Apple are toying with you guys.

Either that or they planted so many rumors to different groups of staff to see where the links are, in which case the answer is everywhere.

I was just thinking the same thing. Some alert person is going to dig up the address of that building the leaked picture tracks too, and discover it was an Apple campus building.

Tomorrow I'll start a thread to rate the accuracy of our leaks, then we can tally the score and see what was fake and what was real and who gave the most real scoops.

Sorry, but Apple is a US company. These are US dollars. ;)

Lol, so you say that the $800 price point is for new 20" Cinema display?

Please, don't go crazy guys. Engadget wrote that someone said there will be no MBP 17" or MB.
I think there will be a $800 - $900 Macbook - NEW Macbook.
I think there will be a new Macbook Pro 17"
I think there will be an update of Macbook Air

Did you read a text on the invitation? "The spotlight turns to Notebooks." That means there will be more new stuff than only a new MBP 15"
