Thing is, the iPhone doesn't perform twice as good as an S3, it has less features, less power, the battery life doesn't seem like it'll be as good. And ICS is better than iOS6

That's what I keep saying! Nobody listens

Like when I try to get my friends to buy a tractor instead of a truck. I'm sitting here thinking "look at all the awesome crap you can do with a tractor!!" But for some reason nobody seems to care

saw this on CNET. guess samsung already knows the iPhone 5 has 1GB RAM..

First of all...good news. Secondly, what is with all this blind Apple fandom? Comments right now say "spec bull..." and "who cares" but the moment the spec sheet on the Macs comes out it's "OMG! I told you Apple is better than Windows!"

This sort of crazed Apple "Yes Man" fever is what almost killed Apple when it started shoving out crappy products like printers, Newton, and point-and-shoot cameras in the past.

Apple makes great products...yes. I own a ton of them. But they don't always make perfect products.

Does this diatribe have a point?

Yeah, half the memory and double the performance. I'm sorry, the S3 is NOT a great device. It's clumsy, cheap plastic, loaded with bloat, and isnt as smooth as people claim it is. I sat down with it for a while and was nervous that it might make me second guess getting the iPhone 5. Well, im happy to say it had exactly the opposite effect. It's got a lot of bells and whistles, most of them useless in real world use (although it did have a few cool things), and that's about it. IMO iPhone blows it away. And the build quality doesn't even compare a little bit. Keep ur S3. And I'll gladly keep my iPhone.

cool story bro

I love the title, it says "take THAT Android fans!"

Anyway, looking forward to the Quad Core iPhone 6 with 1.5GB of RAM

That's a pretty lame ad for several reasons, but what strikes me is that it only list hardware features on the iPhone, but add software features on the Samsung, making it longer. I don't think the type of person who actually cares about bullet points are dumb enough to not notice.

In your opinion. :)

Can you be specific in what features the S3 has that are missing in the iPhone 5?

Same for ICS versus iOS 6. I've only had a few chances to use a droid phone and they've always felt unintuitive to me, but I can think of a few things I'd like to see changed/added to iOS......

Don't feed the fools...:p

I felt the same way with my Nexus 7. I thought it would be a great portable 7 inch device for me to play the mobile games that I typically played on my iPhone. I thought maybe if I liked that, it would transition me to the next Nexus device. The opposite happened though. I have no desire to buy an Android phone anymore. The Google Play store totally turned me off. And even with Jelly Bean, and a quad core processor, that thing is not even as smooth as my 4S, let alone what the iPhone 5 appears to be like in hands-on videos. There were many times in the first two weeks (when I was actually using it), where I would be scrolling and it would stutter, or other parts of the OS would just stutter. I'll let them continue to think that their apps have caught up with iOS, and that project butter is the answer to all their problems. Whatever. I've done enough arguing with them. I own high-end devices from both platforms, and let's just say that there is a reason why Apple continues to top the customer satisfaction surveys.

This might sound silly now, but that is the best news I have heard in years. It will add years to its life cycle.

Mock me now than check with me in 4 years.

Rocketman

"iPhone 3GS"

Further, GPU is the future.

I completely agree. I have no doubts that the iPhone 5 will run extremely smoothly and will have very little speed issues. Apple may care about the bottom line in making some decisions, but they don't ever completely ignore user experience. So whatever Apple puts in the iPhone 5 will be more than enough to run the iPhone 5 extremely well. But the better the hardware specs are, the more likely the phone will run the future iOS smoother.

Remember skimming stones?

I pledge my allegiance to the flag and Apple Computer USA! Recently, I picked up and examined the S3! The first thing that came to me was: "I bet I could skim that phone 100 yards or more on a body of water, then it would sink and stay where it belongs, on the bottom of the lake! That's one level up from fish poop!

I don't understand the people who compare hardware features between Android and iOS devices. They are always within one generation on hardware and iOS is always 2 generations ahead on ecosystem.

FINALLY! This is something that was needed. Finally people can open multiple tabs without issues. AND FINALLY people who jailbreak can download minor tweaks without having the phone slow down. WOO.

Brand identity

Funny how Samsung didn't really have a brand identity until they started running the anti-apple ads. Now people don't think of it as a Samsung SCHi123POOP-45BS, but there's actually a S3 camp. I guess passing around "how-to-steal" memos in the office isn't enough, riding on coat tails is something distinctly Samsung also, huh. Simple fact of the matter is that both products do what they need to well, and utilize the hardware differently. Since Android ICS isn't really something Samsung compiled and made specifically for the S3, the extra RAM is needed to make it run smoothly. While IOS was built for the iPhone, it uses the RAM differently and runs as well as it can on what the hardware has.

The other things you said about the S3 might be true... ICS is in no way better than iOS6... Now your just talking drunk...:p

Coachingguy

iOS6 is the Android equivalent to Gingerbread 2.3 :p Other than siri. ( which sucks ). You guys still don't have widgets, multi tasking, or a back button :p

...are you 420 now.!?

Its not that I dislike iOS, I don't. I had a 3GS and loved it for a long time, but I feel that Android and Windows Phone are leaving iOS behind in terms of features and under the hood updates. And UI updates for sure.,

Just the other day we had a thread here griping about how Macrumors has become one giant Android fanboy Apple hate bash fest. I guess things have changed since then.

Well, I think its because Apple has fallen behind the times as far as Phones go.

Personally, I buy whatever phone does the best job for me, and there was a point in time when the iPhone did that ( I love mah Macs to )

But you see the Windows Phone and Android guys getting tons of crazy powerful hardware, tons of new features, and they get them very quickly. While Apple seems to lag behind in every category besides profits, and that doesn't matter unless your a shareholder.

Apple is worth 600+ billion, second most valuable company of all time ( adjusted for inflation ), and they are a huge success. Why can't they take some of that money and do something really awesome again?

WHAT??? ONLY 1GB??? I'M CANCELING MY ORDER!!! APPLE HAS STOPPED INNOVATING!!! HOW HARD IS IT TO PUT ANOTHER GB IN THERE???

/sarcasm
It's so funny... I remember when my computer maxed out at 32MB of ram* (1995) and we used to joke about computers have "a GIG of Ram" one of these days. Now, we've got that in phones. Amazing.

*going from 8MB of ram to 32MB cost me $1500! (am I remembering that right? Sounds insane!)
