I said it before, and I think it bears repeating.

One underrates Apple to their own detriment.
Isn't this just another way of saying "Apples iPhone XS and XS plus, their flagship phones, are not their best sellers"?

This is what happened with the X. Apple over-bought so they had enough supplies to last, rather than be caught off-guard as in previous years where demand out-stripped supply. They've filled their boots, now they're reigning in the production to more 'normal' levels.

Now about this....
It's hard to think of a higher calling than selling products that save people's lives
[Puts on super-cynical hat] Ahem, saving lives for the sake of saving lives and not having a profit by-product would be a higher calling. Ambulance, Fire, Police, Doctors without Borders....all higher callings [Removes super-cynical hat]

Whoa, I blacked out there for a min...WHAT DID I JUST TYP...oh wait, no, that fits in right here at the MacRumors forum.

Apple refuse to release numbers so we will never know.

No, they never refused anything, they used to release numbers, it’s just they are no longer reporting numbers for future quarterly earnings. What you don’t understand, Apple doesn’t owe you any ‘sales numbers’ whatsoever. And most of the competition doesn’t release numbers for their sales either, so what does it matter?

Apple's iPhone XR, released in late October, has been outselling the iPhone XS and XS Max every day since it first launched
Though the iPhone XR has been outselling Apple's more expensive iPhones, rumors have suggested that it is not selling quite as well as Apple expected. Apple has reportedly cut both iPhone XS and iPhone XR orders following lower-than-expected demand. Apple is said to have slashed iPhone XR production by up to a third.
So the expensive phones aren't selling well and the less expensive phone isn't selling well and Apple has cut production of that model. I hope this translates in to cheaper prices.
Joswiak did not comment on reports of iPhone XR production cuts
Apparently they won't comment on sales numbers either :D
What have they got to hide...

They might want to tell potential investers that are looking to invest that a particular product is doing well

So just get an iPhone Xr or 7 then. Why re-invent the wheel?

Because a phone that feels too big or one that is two years old is not a compelling product. Why do you care? Lets call it an XR mini if that makes you feel better. I'd buy one instead of staying with my old phone.

Developers want to concentrate on developing apps that take advantage of the space on >4.7" screens. No one wants to keep making design concessions just to support ancient hardware specifications.

The sooner the 5s & SE become obsolete the better.

SE body with XR design would be about 5 inches. Happy?

An SE2 could easily house a 4.7” display. And devs will already be supporting this size for the next 6+ years anyway because of iPhone 8.

So just get the Xr which is 6.1". I'd be astonished if Apple released an 'Xr mini' which shaves just an inch off the screen size.

Facepalm. The Xr is far too big. People want an SE2 because if it’s size. Try to comprehend that before commenting on the topic again.

I do agree that a 4.7" screen in an SE2 would work, but I can't see Apple bothering to serve such a niche market.

SE served around 10% of all iPhone sales over the last few years. Niche or not, that’s a lot of sales and revenue to ignore.

Done right an SE2 could capture 15-20%

I’m genuinely puzzled. Why bother to make the phone in assorted colors if owners are going to cover them with a case?

Maybe some silicone cases that match the colours would be nice? And with an Apple logo so it’s immediately clear from a distance who makes the phone.

The majority are going to use a case. So now the XR is going to be covered by many rubbish cases which will generally hide the phone and take away the look. I’ve tried dozens of cases in the past for different iPhones. Apple cases are expensive but the quality is outstanding.

And the XS comes in a few nice colours. I love the gold. Hang on... I’ve just covered it with an Apple leather case :)

But this doesn't fit with "it's the worst iPhone ever' rabble I have been hearing.

Yes it does. It's the most popular iPhone on sale since it launched. Those who wanted other the models had weeks to years to pick them up before the XR came out.

It's also the cheapest of the newest iPhones. This article couldn't be more of a non-story if it tried.

"New cheap version of [insert product here] is currently selling more units per day than old and/or expensive version of [insert product here]"

Still too big, still too expensive for the 'budget' version. Imagine how much more they'd be selling if they had a smaller version like the hugely successful 5c and se!

Don’t hold your breath the masses ignored that phone.

You do realise that was one of Apple's most successful phones, right?

The market demands bigger screens, not smaller.

No, it doesn't! This is what Steve Jobs ALWAYS cautioned against... what the market 'thinks' it wants.

Bigger screen but NOT bigger form factor. ALL the next phones are now too big to COMFORTABLY use with one hand for most people, whereas the previous models were perfect for it. They also are uncomfortably large for pockets. Sure, people were initially excited for bigger screens, but that doesn't mean you simply make bigger and bigger phones, in the same way that making smaller and smaller phones in the 00's wasn't the answer.

There is a HUGE market for phones around the size of the 5C/SE. If they make them edge to edge phones then the markets is even bigger. Most regular phone users (no tech geeks) are happy with those sizes and don't want a mini tablet. If they do, then fine, Apple and Samsung have those models, but don't exchange one 'popular' phone size for another. Give us BOTH options.
