Wow. Sales for the XS and XS Max must be REALLY bad.

I’ve been an iPhone guy since the beginning. I’ve owned nearly every iteration.

I didn’t upgrade to the X last year and this year I went a little crazy and ordered a Pixel 3 XL.
How do you like the pixel 3?

I am guessing Apple probably snatched up a bunch of shares today. After they got out they put this statement out as a hint that things are going basically according to plan. Of course they give as little info as possible. It isn't like Greg was going to invite you into his house to check how much change is in his sofa.

i can't believe anybody would think Greg is covering anything up. That would be a recipe for utter catastrophe if things aren't going well. For anybody claiming that Greg is lying or hiding anything, does Apple have a track record making misleading statements to cover up previous bad guidance given by Apple?

If things are actually that bad they would do better to say nothing at all. Anyway it's just my guess.
I am sure he is not lying. He is not actually providing any meaningful information while creating an impression that XR sells better than XS (which would be a wrong conclusion if one were to parse his statement carefully).

Offered to upgrade my daughters 7+ to an XR and she said no.... the single lens camera makes it look too much like an older phone she said.... and yes, looks are important to a 13 yo teen.
Perhaps a missed teaching moment about looks vs function. Forgetting what 13yo needs a $800 new phone.

Its selling more than the more expensive models, yes which is expected. But does it matter if none of the models are selling well to begin with? Thats the main issue.

So you think it is him just making this statement to temporarily take pressure off of the stock?

And they are laughing at the people with poor reading comprehension.

Apple says the Xr has been the better selling phone since October. It doesn’t say that the Xr outsold the X or Xs, or any phone for that matter. Apple also doesn’t say if they sold as many units as they hoped. In fact, they declined to comment when asked if production orders were slashed. Don’t you think Apple would have refuted that rumor if it wasn’t true?
Apple never comments on supply chain rumors. Heck they rarely comment on any rumors period.

See through case.. that’s what Apple actually SAID they were making for the XR on stage during its launch event, yeah that’ll turn out to be yet another AirPower then..
I have a third party one but it’s a lil thick.
Apple announced a case on stage at the launch event? Are you sure about that?
[doublepost=1543455715][/doublepost]
Not mentioning overall sales. That's courage.
The same courage that Google, Microsoft and Samsung have, right?

Yes you are crazy! Pixel is far inferior in both hardware, software and ecosystem. But hey have fun. Everybody I know is loving X/Xs/Xr this is real life benchmark.
I didn't upgrade to the X because I was waiting for them to make a bigger X.... which of course they did.... At first I was like meh..... but it's grown on me a lot after I pick up my old 7+ and try and do things with it. not at all sorry about my upgrade... I do the next so it's only $10 more than I was spending anyway so the actual price of the device isn't a huge factor for me.

No 13 yo NEEDS an $800 phone...My wife and I however have worked very hard in our lives to become educated to the point where our jobs pay us an amount to make it possible to do such things without it impacting our lives so we choose to do so. As far as looks over function... that's all a personal choice.... a choice my intelligent, caring, and mature 13 yo daughter can make on her own.
[doublepost=1543456552][/doublepost]
You are one lucky dad. You didn't explain to her how stupid this was?
Oh I tried to sell her on the larger screen, nice colors, faster everything.... still that damn camera lol. It wouldn't have been but a few dollars on the ATT next program more a month so wouldn't have been a big deal. At least you didn't try and lecture me about how 13 yo kids don't need expensive phones like another did lol.

LOL I think she was trying to play you to get a XS or a Max. Maybe she learned a lesson. :)

Given the XR is outselling the Xs, it seems most consumers in the world want a bigger phone, not an SE. Apple killing the SE is another clear indication of the actual demand for small phones.

The XR is cheaper than the Xs. I think that is the main factor as to why the XR is outselling the Xs. I would be surprised if anyone bought the XR over the Xs just because they wanted a bigger phone. Maybe I'm wrong though. Just seems crazy to me.

All I'm saying is that if Apple offered 3 different sized phones each with the same exact features, I think they would see that there is a demand for smaller phones. By only including the top of the line features in the largest phones, it will obviously look like there is no demand for smaller phones because people who want the those features are going to compromise on size in order to get them.

It is important to know that Product(RED) introduces genital cutting to areas of Africa where it has not been traditionally used—including the genital cutting of minors—based on specious data:

This is what Product(RED) funds and promotes as prevention of HIV/AIDS:

Here is some information on the research behind the genital cutting practices:

That would be ideal, yet they aren’t popular.
kinda catching the butt end here but my daughter asked for a clear case for her phone lol....

LoL she did ask for an Xmax for Christmas but I made it clear that wasn't going to happen.... she drops her phone too much for that to be an option.

I did.

The Fed's Powell also made a statement that hinted at a plateau in the rate at noon:rolleyes:.

Apple's VP Greg Joswiak made his statement at about noon:mad::rolleyes:.

The stock market took off after that.

Previous close, $174 - noon price $175, in the next four hours after this statement - sharp rise in AAPL price ~$6! It kicked up the broad stock market too, almost all the indices. About 75% of the stocks I follow did the same.

Cause and Effect? I said yes;). You say otherwise:).

Is it because of the Fed's statement or Apple's statement?

3/4 stocks follow the overall market though. It has nothing to do with the statement, and everything to do with the major indices moving on Powell's statement tbh

Pretty sure Apple doesn't make decisions based on share price, other than whether to repurchase stock.

Yes, this is a rumors' site - but your confidence in making this statement is impressive!

More likely such a decision would be driven by demand, and only a fraction of people want a small factor phone.

If only a small fraction of people want a small-form factor iPhone, and Apple is willing to indulge them, it is no skin of my nose - nor yours!

I am sure that the percentage of people who wanted a thinner iPhone or iPad, and an equally small percentage of Apple's customers wanted the audio jack gone - yet, here we are!

Cuts both wayso_O - we don't control/influence these designers, it seems.:(

The Xs and Xs Max could sell more combined and the VP statement would still be true. Like I said, no context.

It was merely thumbs up for shareholders to hold the course. No other context makes sense. AAPL got hammered based on a bunch of rumors and Greg came on to deliver a positive message. Yes, it was vague but it signaled to me everything is going to work out. At least on Apple's side of the deal.

Apple's iPhone XR, released in late October, has been outselling the iPhone XS and XS Max every day since it first launched, Apple's VP of product marketing Greg Joswiak told CNET in an interview published today.

Priced starting at $749, a more affordable price tag than the $999 iPhone XS or $1,099 iPhone XS Max, the iPhone XR was Apple's "most popular iPhone each and every day" since it became available for purchase.

Though the iPhone XR has been outselling Apple's more expensive iPhones, rumors have suggested that it is not selling quite as well as Apple expected. Apple has reportedly cut both iPhone XS and iPhone XR orders following lower-than-expected demand. Apple is said to have slashed iPhone XR production by up to a third.

Joswiak did not comment on reports of iPhone XR production cuts, and instead reiterated his statement that the device is Apple's best selling iPhone at the current point in time.

In addition to providing details on iPhone XR sales, Joswiak said that Apple will again promote World AIDS Day on Saturday, December 1. $1 of every Apple Pay purchase made at an Apple Store, the Apple Store app, or through the Apple website from December 1 to December 7 will be donated.

"Not only does each purchase bring us closer to an AIDS-free generation, but every dollar provides five days of life-saving medicine," said Joswiak.

Apple also plans to turn the Apple logos at 125 of its stores red, as it has done in past years, and at 400 additional stores, red decals will be placed over Apple logos. Apple does not plan to offer any special promotions in the App Store this year.

Apple has long supported AIDS research through its RED partnership, which sees it offering (PRODUCT)RED themed devices and donating a portion of the purchase price. Apple in October alongside other iPhone XR models launched a (PRODUCT)RED version of the iPhone XR, which Joswiak said is "incredibly" important to Apple. "It's hard to think of a higher calling than selling products that save people's lives," he said.

Apple made a deliberate decision to put a 6.1" display in the XR. Apple could have put a 5.8" or 5.5" display in the XR. In that scenario, Apple's lineup would be much less awkward. But Apple chose to put 6.1" because it's what most consumers want.

If you look at global sales of the Galaxy S9 vs. S9+, the 6.2" model outsells the 5.8".

In 2018, almost everybody wants a phablet.

Asians especially love the phablets. Making a lower cost phone with a big screen was a good move. For many of them the phone will be their only tablet, computer, video screen etc. They don't complain about how Apple ignores people with small hands. They don't have to worry about how the confusing line up will fit in with their 27" iMac, 60" LCD TV, their iPad Pro, 12" MacBook and last but not least their iPad mini.

Some people have so muh Apple crap already that if Apple isn't making some niche product in between it most likely doesn't deserve to exist.

The satisfaction of iPhone XR is really impressive. People would worry about the lower PPI comparing to XS and XS Max, and the quality of pictures because of having only one rear camera; however, they are quite good in fact.

Plenty of fake news about XR sales since it was released. People who are not qualified or do not have direct evidence of sales should not suggest false information.

Just need the share price to tank some more and they'll resurrect the SE.

Exactly. Some people want a phone you can hold with one hand and that doesn’t weigh half a pound. The iPhones have been getting thicker and heavier each generation for the last 3-4 years.

Even if the iPhone SE2 was the same price as the XR I’d be interested. I want something light and thin.
