Maybe some silicone cases that match the colours would be nice? And with an Apple logo so it’s immediately clear from a distance who makes the phone.

The majority are going to use a case. So now the XR is going to be covered by many rubbish cases which will generally hide the phone and take away the look. I’ve tried dozens of cases in the past for different iPhones. Apple cases are expensive but the quality is outstanding.

And the XS comes in a few nice colours. I love the gold. Hang on... I’ve just covered it with an Apple leather case :)
Some of you Appleheads are so vain. Like the majority care or even look to see what phone you have.
I think from now on everytime I see someone with an XR I'm gonna say nice phone for a poor mans iphone

Apple doesn't get stuck like NVDA with warehouses of Bitcoin mining chips. So I don't think the fact they (if that is the reality) cut some production is a bad sign. It is actually good they won't have a surplus of whatever phone if it didn't sell as well as they thought.

Everything is controlled.
I'm not making a judgement re: whether cutting production is a good or bad thing. I just think this statement does not contradict the idea of a production cut of the Xr.

Except that it puts to rest the rumors that buyers were choosing iPhone 8 over iPhone Xr.
That could well be. I was just saying Jaws' statement did not contradict the rumors of production cuts of the Xr. As I said in another post, I'm not making any judgments on whether cutting production is good, bad, planned, etc., etc., nor do have an opinion regarding the Xr sales over the 8. In my opinion, if you're going to spend north of $600.00 on a phone, I think you should try and stretch for the Xr, as that is the superior model.

I feel features take a backseat to price.

If Apple sold the iPhone XS for the same price as the XR the XS would be the most popular selling phone.

At this point I feel that Apple is not so much a premium brand as they are a brand with premium prices. Kind of a vicious circle really.

Who would have thought the newest iPhone would be the best selling during the month it was released.

The average consumer won’t see the value in OLED or 3D Touch as much as the value of saving $250 or more depending on storage so this is not surprising. Happy XR owner since launch here!
Thats the thing most people bashing the XR dont seem to be able to get through their geek skulls. Apples LCD screens still blow away MANY Android phones that have OLED. OLED is very very far from mass adoption until prices come down. 99 percent of all tvs sold today are LED LCD models. I'll admit sometimes I miss 3D touch but its not worth $250.

The vast majority of consumers look at the XR and see 90 percent of what the XS is for much cheaper. It's really that simple. Plus the XR battery is damn near impossible to kill in a day, even with heavy use. And by day I mean like 18 hours. This thing is a beast in many ways. I only have to charge it every 2-3 days with regular use.

Are you so removed from reality that you believe that a makers mark is for the customer who has already bought the device or item!? Just about every case has a makers mark of some sort. I’d rather be without it (from Apple or otherwise) but it’s marketing - that was my point.

I run a small business. Every box and packaging has my company mark. It’s amazing how much trade I get from someone who sees an old bit of box or card.

And 1 more than iPhone 7, 7 plus, 8, and 8 plus. So basically a ton.

OMG. You're joking, right? You don't add them all up!

Hypothetically, if each one of those models sold 1 each, and the Xr sold 2, that makes the "Xr the best selling model" based on his words. That doesn't mean they sold a ton of anything. All is says is that it sold at least 1 more phone than the highest number of any other model.

Offered to upgrade my daughters 7+ to an XR and she said no.... the single lens camera makes it look too much like an older phone she said.... and yes, looks are important to a 13 yo teen.
Even though that single camera is a massive improvement? And portrait selfies are amazing (surely thats super important to todays teens). Oh well, who ever said teens make any sense, haha.

So the expensive phones aren't selling well and the less expensive phone isn't selling well and Apple has cut production of that model. I hope this translates in to cheaper prices.

Apparently they won't comment on sales numbers either :D
What have they got to hide...

SE served around 10% of all iPhone sales over the last few years. Niche or not, that’s a lot of sales and revenue to ignore.

Done right an SE2 could capture 15-20%

Perhaps since Apple stated they won’ t disclose sales numbers, you are under the assumption that Apple doesn’ t know sales nr’ s of each model?
If it had been worthwhile to release a new se2, apple would have done that.
I love to hear all the comments about a 5 inch xr type iPhone with 326ppi for 649 us.

If or when apple sees an opportunity to sell more iPhones by releasing a new smaller one. They will or would have done that...

Right, but since Apple had sales numbers for all devices when they gave guidance for a record holiday quarter, we know that's not the case.

That's the context you're missing.

This is the type of post that really worries me about society. Apple constantly fund bs stories like this. The xr is one of the worst selling apple phones ever!!! Please research, Apple is properly on its way down. The real numbers are out there if you just read more than their yearly balance sheet.

And what should you read then? All these rumored production cuts we have seen since the days of the 6s, that has been proven wrong consistently? Or a source from Apple which has the real numbers?
No let’s listen to techtalktv or painfully honest tech, or Jaime Rivera, etc.
Or that one worker from a supplier.. great sources..

Surely someone makes a case that will make the XR look like an XS. It can’t be that hard! And as a Dad I know what it’s like.

Apple did not say that they sold tons of XRs. Pay attention to words. They said that XR on its first month sells better than XS (without XS+) on its second month. Then of course one would expect that the second month of XS is much worse than its first one (peak demand). So, this statement clarifies nothing but by being so intentionally coy it actually makes me think that the sales are not very good. It may also mean that XS sales totally fell through the floor but i would not go that far.

From what I have read so far the rumors were about XR production cuts. If the XS/Max models are selling as expected based on a lack of supply chain rumors about its production, I will believe the stories of the XR failure just to be the same uniformed rumors that are posted every year around this time.

Apple's VP said. Figures.

How is this an indication of anything except that iPhone XS and XS Max are not selling well?

No real numbers, and comparative figures from before.

He gives a relative sales figure, and the share holders are supposed to be elated that Apple has done something great with this year's iPhones!

It worked; since this statement from around noon today, AAPL has gone up $6, a near 4% jump for the day!

I haven't seen any rumors of supplier cuts for XS/Max models. So if I missed those, the analysts must believe the XS/Max models are meeting sales expectations.

I dunno, maybe it's because a lot of people don't want to drop $1k+ on a phone. Xs and Xs Max need to drop about $100-$150. I do applaud Apple at actually providing some of the latest features in the Xr like the A12 and FaceID.

Hopefully this will give Apple a hint of what many of its customers actually want: more affordable devices. iPhone XS has a more “premium” look & feel to it, but in the end it is not a piece of art, it’s just a hardware frame around iOS. As such, the simple it looks, the better. Besides, most people wrap their iPhones in a case, so all the immaculate material properties, often emphasied in Apple promotional videos, get simply hidden behind the case.

You're not the first to say I'm removed from reality, most say it about my political views as I'm far left and believe in a happy war free clean world.
I run a small business as well, red eyes and sunglasses are my makers mark.
I rely on word of mouth and reputation not some emblem or logo.

How does anyone except Apple know what “most” of its customers want. My guess is they know exactly about their customer demographics.

The XR is 90% the XS for 75% of the price. Or for people who buy phones on contract (in Canada, phones must be unlocked), it's 1/5th the upfront cost. It's a fantastic phone and I don't regret buying my XR one bit.

All the comparison with the 5C is baffling. A true comparison with the 5C would've been if they used the internals of the X. This is a 2018 phone with 2018 technology aside from OLED and dual camera. My wife with an 8 Plus is jealous that my selfie game is strong on my XR.
