Not sure why people are surprised these accessories work with the 2018 iPad Pro, the form factors of 11 and 12.9 are the sweet spot and will be staying for a while.

oh by the way guys if you are trying to figure out if it's compatible with your iPad Pro. just use the apple store app and check under compatible devices..

Not compatible with 2017? Rough! My 12.9" pro from 2017 can't handle a mouse? Why?

Edit: I meant software wise, not necessarily the physical keyboard, just the new cursor and what not. But I guess that's not ruled out?

The cursor support is iPadOS 13.4, not the iPad itself.

Because Apple.

I’m delighted, I’m still completely satisfied with my 1TB 11” & 12.9” and will happily sit out this iPad upgrade.

There are 2012 and 2014 MBP's that if you upgrade the RAM and SSD would cost a similar amount to the keyboard and give you a better desktop performance in my opinion

But I already have an iPad Pro. Why would I go buy an old computer, upgrade it when my needs can be met with an $350 accessory?

So all the accessories are compatible with the current pro....this sounds like the generation to skip if you are happy right now.

They didn't even call it the A13Z?????? Why still A12???
Well yeah they could have called it the A13X for marketing reasons, but that would have been misleading if it's principally an A12X but with a better GPU.

In for the float! Such a great design.

Edit: also backlit and with scissor keys! Just awesome.

What kind of keyboard is it? The old school scissor one, or the butterfly one that's being deprecated across the laptop line?
Answered in the article:
The Magic Keyboard features cantilevered hinges for smooth adjustments of the viewing angle up to 130 degrees, including a full-size keyboard with backlit keys and a scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm travel.

I will say three words:

"Steve Jobs rolls..."

Nope.

The idea Jobs would dislike keyboard/trackpad etc is utter nonsense and only makes sense (just about!) in the context of the world standing still at the point he died. Fast forward 10+ years, technology and the platform has evolved logically.

Same applies to the stylus. He was specifically talking about using styli for UI elements & navigation being a big fail. He was right! I had an HTC TyTyn prior to an iPhone, it was a chore using the stylus on a pokey screen to do anything.

Are you seriously telling me Steve Jobs wouldn’t applaud the magnificent abilities of the Apple pencil? That he wouldn’t appreciate the ease with which a tablet can become a very competent typing experience?

It’s an old meme based on stale thinking and it needs to die, like snappier Safari.

I cant read this morning thanks haha

thought I did a ctrl+f for scissor and butterfly too, but whoops

Mannn! so even the Air's got the new-old keyboard. Next on the chopping block is the 13" which will be a .... 14"

Yep, looks great, I’ll be buying both sizes for my iPads.

Just wish it had a function row. I’ve always been okay with the ASK and predecessors, but I do miss playback controls chiefly. Buttons for Home, brightness etc are a bonus too. I tend to vacillate between the ASK and Logitech keyboards, always coming back to the ASK for its simplicity and weight.

Love the look of this new keyboard and the added bonus of both backlit keys and the trackpad, I’ll either buy one to use with my current 12.9” or if I can pass it down to my wife or one of my kids, I’ll update to the newer version. I also like how they’ve added the USB-C charging port on the hing mechanism, so that you no longer need to have a cord sticking out the side of the iPad when plugged in (for either charging or data transfers). It’s a far cleaner and more functional look.

Of course I’d prefer it not to be as expensive, but as the saying goes, you do get what you pay for.

I’m confused... does this mean iPadOS is getting a real mouse cursor like macOS? The current implementation of the ‘mouse’ in accessibility is pretty poor.

I have to say it: they are out of their damn minds charging $300 and $349 for this.

Please resist people, or get it used so it doesn't go to Apple directly, or if it must go to Apple, wait for a serious price drop from them sitting around.

I could see justifying this for maybe half that cost. Probably still with some guilt

--

So you're gonna spend $1349 for a keyboard+mouse 12.9" iPad Pro, with 128gb storage

OR

get a MacBook Air 8gb/256gb for $999

a 35% upcharge for a leisure laptop

hmm

Nope. For a fraction of the price I can buy a Brydge Pro+ keyboard with embedded track pad. My current Brydge keyboard sans track pad works like a champ with my 2019 12.9" ipad pro.

Everything about the Brydge keyboard is great except the actual keyboard is pretty awful. Mine has an error when you hit the enter key it constantly repeats or doesn't action at all. The keys are awful in general as well vague, mushy and wobbly.

That being sad 300-350 us and 400-450 Canadian for me for the magic keyboard seems about $100 too much at least on the Canadian side.

The previous logictech keyboard was the best I tried but didn't have adjustable viewing angles and was heavy and bulky.
The new Magic Keyboard better be amazing like zero flaws to justify spending that much loot on a keyboard.
