They most likely used MagSafe because the AirPower name is a joke now because of the failed product 😂I’ve seen so many tech people/youtubers being happy that “MagSafe is back!”. I’m not sure why they are falling for this marketing name that has nothing to do with the old MagSafe. There were no accessories that you could attach to the MagSafe port of a laptop. The “Safe” part was that if you pulled Your MacBooks cable by accident it would safely detach, that won’t be the case with an iPhone. I think removing the phone from the charger will probably need two hands. I really like the use of magnets on the new iPhones but it think it’s stupid they use MagSafe name for it.
Don’t fret my dear, you really don’t have to buy a new car to charge your phone!Doesn't help for cars that have wireless charging with max speeds higher than 7.5w, but that won't ever be able to take advantage of the higher speeds since car makers aren't going to offer a retrofit for a magsafe version in existing cars.
Apples product naming has been chaotic for some time and is just getting worse.I’ve seen so many tech people/youtubers being happy that “MagSafe is back!”. Yeah, at the very least make it compatible with Qi 15W. But as it is now, my car charger is enough to trickle charge using GPS and streaming Apple Music over BT and my bedside charger is fast enough to have it charged by morning. Having thought about it some more, at least the magnetic ring will make for a better way to mount it in the car. Still should be backwards compatible with newer standards, not just the old 7.5W.I definitely would have rather seen them sticking with the standard for 15w charging with existing in car wireless options and other pads than requiring another charging cable and connector but that's Apple for you.
If my iPhone sticks to the puck when I lift it (like Clark Griswold's sappy fingers glued to the magazine in Christmas Vacation), then what's the point? How is that even "wireless?"
since this one i can lift the phone and use it while charging.
So, can someone clarify this new charger for me?
Thanks for answering my questions!
- I have an iPhone X and I am planning on getting this charger for my iPhone X. Will it be charging at the higher rate of 15 W with my iPhone X?
- Will this charger auto align with my iPhone X as shown in the press event?
So on Apple store app it says this charger is compatible with my 11 Pro Max. I thought it had to have magnets like 12/12pro?

Only Chinese based companiesAndroid is doing 50w wireless charging and apple sticks to 7.5 Qi shocking
I just love all the negative comments. Had this MagSafe charger been put out by Microsoft or Samsung then the naysayers would be like, "Hey Good Job Microsoft" "Excellent work Samsung" "Apple take notice!!" So obvious people here are purposely being hateful simply because it's Apple. It's just another charging option. Get over yourselves.
