Well, you needn't get one if you don't have these problems, but it will solve problems for others. Can I ask what you see as the benefit of a wireless charger over a wired charger if you are so careful anyway with positioning the phone?

I am sure there will quickly be third parties offering blocks to house the MagSafe chargers so that they don't lift up with the phone -- just as they already do for watch chargers.

I only use wireless chargers on my bed side tables. They are useful in that I can just lay the phone down without having to mess with plugging it in and I can grab it and go in the morning. Also they are aesthetically nicer to look at than cables lying about.

During the day if I need charging I always use my 24W Anker USB adapter with a 2.5m Apple cable because its 3 times as fast to charge and I can still use it whilst charging. I only use Wireless chargers for overnight charging when I won't be using my phone for an extended period.

So...
Can I mount it on my dash at an angle and it will hold my phone?
Does it charge the iPhone 11 at 15 watts?

I think I already know the answers to these questions, unfortunately. But the good news is that its $39.

I firmly believe they held onto this charger so they could offer it with the iPhone 12 - they knew the new features on the 12 were not significant enough to warrant an upgrade for 11 owners. The 15 watt rate is enough to add a bonus to the upgrade. Absolutely something that Apple would do. A breakdown will tell us if the coil/hardware is significantly different. Regardless, they sat on it.

If my iPhone sticks to the puck when I lift it (like Clark Griswold's sappy fingers glued to the magazine in Christmas Vacation), then what's the point? How is that even "wireless?"

is was not called a wireless chargers but MagSafe charger?...

and all wireless charges is not wireless anyway...

Yes, me too. But the person I was asking said that they were always very careful about correctly positioning their phone on their wireless charger. For me, if you are that careful anyway, you might as well use a cable. But the "grab and go" in the morning and aesthetic preferences are still relevant, I guess.

Yes, Any Qi charger will work. The ones that have been available will not have the magnets though to ensure proper alignment So it will always charge, the ability to continue charging when picking up the phone and using it, and the 15w charge rate.

That‘s good news. I think i’ll wait and see how the reviews are on the new charger. The more powerful charger is great but if you can’t pick up your phone from the charger with one hand, that feels like a step backward.

That’s some real BS. Apple making more proprietary stuff to junk up the world goes against their messaging on removing chargers and EarPods. It really is just about charging more and saving money.

Finally a ”wireless“ method which stays attached to the phone and keeps charging it when you pick it up and use it. Price seems fair.

Kinda Meh to me. Can count on one hand how many times I have {{quote}} wirelessly {{unquote}} (more appropriately labeled inductive) charged my iPhone.

Am more worried about how much more iron filings and other magnetic items will stick to my phone. I already have to watch where I place my iPad whenever I am in the shop, not thrilled about the same happening to my phone Now. Hopefully the magnetic field is somewhat shielded from the Lightning port. That could be really bad news for some of us.

I definitely would have rather seen them sticking with the standard for 15w charging with existing in car wireless options and other pads than requiring another charging cable and connector but that's Apple for you.

Carefully positioning my phone correctly on the wireless charger so I know its definitely charging takes two seconds. It's not something that requires a lot of focus.

Majority of the time I do use a cable to charge my iPhone, either in the mains or a portable battery pack. Its only at night I use a wireless charger because I don't need to use it in my sleep lol compared to the day when I am always using it.

The big question is will this thing detach when I pick the phone up off the table?
Two hands operation as per Apple iPhone 12 video

Agreed...Seems like its made to stay with the device unless the charger is mounted /secured somehow

15W QI chargers are being sold for as low as $12. Is that the reason Apple does not support 15W QI charging? To get 15W charging for iPhone, one has to buy Apple charger for $39. Get it, suckers?

That’s an exaggerated motion for the advert - that happens all the time in adverts.

Looks to me like you’ll be able to detach it with one hand just by reaching a couple of fingers around and pushing it (with a thumb on the other side of the phone pushing the other way) as you pick it up.
