I disagree, the pro has multitouch, LED screen, Matte Option, different keyboard, backlight keyboard, FW 800, more USB ports, better graphics card, etc. While overpriced, it smokes the MB!

Multi touch is definitely coming to all the MB, LED screen apparently is coming too with their orders, the space keyboard i reckon on better than the current mbp but with backlight it would be great on the mbp, as for usb ports the 15" doesnt have more (2) and were basically just left with the graphic cards and the FW 800 which I don't see as a 1k upgrade.
I'm just waiting for what they will offer in their next revision, hoping it will be more than the current difference.

No Changes in design

The MacBook will not be Aluminum. Sorry, to burst everyone's bubble, it will be white or black.

Don't expect much of a change it it's design either. Apple is sticking with this design for foreseeable future.

The MacBook Pro however will be seeing a new design in the next six months. Expect it to look like a bulkier version of the MacBook Air.

Just don't hold your breath for a MacBook Pro smaller than 13", it's not going to happen. Now the same can't be said for the to MBA....

Mac GPS?! 3G/4G data services?!

Would be nice to see Apple make internal GPS an BTO option on all laptops! Not to mention integral 3G/4G data services!

Exactly. $1K for a slightly bigger screen, hard drive and graphics card bump is NOT worth it. I have a Penryn MBP, I like the form factor and like the added graphics performance (being a media arts major). The MBP needs a serious price adjustment across the board, to the tune of $3-400. Never happen though.

The MacBook Air has been released ;).

The MacBook Air is NOT a replacement for the 12" PowerBook. That's why it's called MacBook Air, as in Airhead. Nothing Power users want is in it.

Apple hasn't yet released a replacement for the 12" PowerBook. A replacement would be a 12" MBP or even a 13" one, but still an MBP.

This means the power of an MBP in a smaller package.

You **** yer mouth, boy! I'm postponing a long awaited Macbook purchase for the redesign and it's going to be worth it. WORTH IT I tell ya!

Please no comments about buying now if you need it now. I have a 12" powerbook that works perfectly fine, and I'm trying to extend its useful life as long as possible.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but another thing that implies an update is the fact that all the new apple ads feature the mac at the end, never the macbook anymore.

I think a third quarter release is more likely, as the website still lists both products as "new". Furthermore, its fairly certain that wwdc will see the update of the iPhone, and Apple will want to keep the hype on that for a little while before making its laptop updates in the autumn-which is their usual renewal date.

Also, it would be good (and also quite likely) that apple releases an aluminium macbook and also retain the blackbook (with a slight redesign)-mirroring what they did with the iPod classic; they might make the black macbook the cheaper model, and make the higher model aluminium. There won't be many new revisions in terms of features other than dropping the combodrive, adding LCD screens and adding the MBA keyboard-otherwise they would cannibalise sales for the air and pro.

why would Apple make a 12" macbook ? ..I mean , what's up with the 13" screen size.. nothing imho .

...and all the fuss about weight , It does my head in ...come on all these mac laptops are not that heavy as to cause a problem ...and yes I would carry mine round all day !

12" screen ...jeeezz , I'd need a magnifying glass to see the text , stop harking back to power this n power that

rant over :)

Actually , not quite ...

... aluminium ?? plastic ??... what so we can have dents all over the place and cracks here an there , no thanks .... , I'm fed up of all the poxy little 'issues' that come with most all laptops ... all the lightweights can go get an Air or whatever
cast iron all the way

...build something that lasts and is sturdy ...please !!!

now I'm done

sorry

Not sure what the **** implies.

But the MacBook will not be changing for sometime.

However, it was to change it would happen in August, but don't expect it.

The current design is doing well and compared to Apple's other computer products is the second youngest (the current iMac is basically the same as the old white iMac), with only the MacBook Air being newer.

The Pro lines need updating more.

I wonder how macbook would look like in aluminium...;)
Very nice... Hopefully it'll look like the MacBook Air with the
rounded edges
aluminum case
Black backlit keyboard
large multi-touch trackpad
none of the bumpy things on the top of the display
LED display

and maybe even speakers to the left and right of the keyboard (like the MacBook Pro)

:D :apple:

Revamped Macbook Pro, here we go. Now that's what I'm talking about. Sounds sweet. How r u so sure?

I can see that, an aluminum macbook with a 13inch LED display, multi-touch and weighing only 4 pounds will be direct competition to the Air, and the Air wouldn't stand a chance.

This summer is iPhone and tablet time, not laptop time.

Don't expect any significant changes to Mac lines until Feb / March. You are going to wet your pants!!!!!!

It seems like it's always something else time .... what about the computers eh

..this is coming ...that is coming , in reality its always a bit disappointing really:rolleyes:

Personally, the multitouch Air, iPhone and the iTouch may be heralding a new paradigm shift in the personal communication/computer market by Apple. If a company can create a new market within an existing one, they can quickly "own" the mind-share of the consumer of that whole old market.

Wow, can it be? A comment that is firmly grounded in economic and marketing science? I had to double check which website I was at...

Well said.

I just want to say 3 things:

1) Why STEEL?!
2) If it looks as nice as a Macbook Air, they won't make it; why would Apple butcher their MBA line?
3) Yipeedoo, it's Q3.

I'm on the disappointed tip.

I mean, I still don't know they won't put ANY "off-board" graphics card in the MB, because the $1000 difference for the MBP just to get decent graphics is ridiculous. Even a 8400 would do, anything is better than the X666 crap.

I think it's funny how we call "low end" a US$1000 laptop. Talk about overpriced...

you can complain that it's expensive, but you can't complain about apple as a company, they are just smart. They are able to sell tons of these "overpriced" computers, and on top of that people hate the $1000 difference for a graphics card update (plus other things also) but people buy the mbp just for that, or even better, just for a matte screen option. They make money the smart way, although we may think its stupid and overpriced because a pc has the same options for way less.

aluminum is more expensive than plastic. The question is will price increase just because of that?

If they're going to update the macbooks soon, they'd be stupid to not do it at the beginning of June so that they'd have a jump on the education market.

Not stupidity, but rather business savvy. I bet Apple will release new MBPs around June and wait for new MBs until 15 days after the back to school special ends. This way, they will clear out all of their old inventory.

Matte is not more expensive than glossy!

I bet there still won't be an option for a matte screen so that more people will be squeezed up into buying a MB Pro. Many people prefer a glossy screen, many people like both, but many other people strongly prefer matte. Oh well, since glossy screens are less expensive than matte screens I bet the lower end Macs will be glossy-only from now on.

This makes no sense. A matte screen and a glossy screen are no different in cost. The only difference is the finish.

The glossy screen is covered with a clear polished screen that yields better contrast and brighter more saturated colors. It's weakness is the reflection of ambient background light.

The matter screen is covered with a gaussian blurred finished that yields weaker contrast and color but scatters background light to reduce glare and reflections.

If you use your laptop in a bright environment then matte is better. If you use your laptop in a dark environment then glossy is better.

I understand people having a personal preference but it has absolutely nothing to do with reducing costs or squeezing people into upgrading.
