the white and black plastic of the macbook makes it stand out in the crowd and is a clear identifier, no aluminum, please!! plus, the aluminum cuts down the reception of wireless networks, so there's a functional reason to just not do it.

but of course it will come out mid-late summer, just in time for those back to school computer shopping sprees

I can back that WiFi Reception statement up. While waiting in line at Boston's New Store Yesterday, I have a Macbook, 2 people next to me had a MBP and a MacBook Air. Neither of them could connect to the Store's Wifi, and I could get a full 4 bars on the next block :)

I think they should pack in integrated in the low end model, and in the midrange model offer an nVidia GeForce 8400GT dedicated card with 256MB of RAM.

And for the lowend make that a BTO option.

That way people who want the smaller formfactor arent completely stuck with integrated craptastic graphics for when they would like to game.

The 8400GT seems to be a popular graphics choice in Dell, HP, and Sony laptops, as it packs quite a decent graphics punch, and runs circles around all integrated solutions.

AMD is starting to have very decent ATI integrated graphics, but thats only on AMD platforms, not Intel, as AMD doesnt really develop Intel chipsets anymore.

DITTO... no more integrated graphics... I am an Apple Fan Boy as much as the next guy.. but I am also a gamer... I should be able to buy an Apple Lap Top with a decent video card that does not cost $2000....

Please hold back your elitist "dude go buy a dell" comments!

A 13.3" MBP?! I would kill for one of those!! Oh my, how I miss my old 12" PB. :(

Oh well, at least I can still dream about a 12" MBP. Are you reading this Apple? People are willing to do anything for a small Pro-line laptop.

The MacBook Air has been released ;).

but I am also a gamer...

If you want to play games on any laptop you have to be rich to be able to afford replacing the whole thing to get a new graphics card. Otherwise build your own PC desktop for gaming.

I wonder if it will have a video card in it instead of integrated graphics...

Doubtful. It would be great if there was a separate video card, but even if there was one, it would be the lowest of the low video cards. There is no way Apple wants to cut into higher end laptop sales.

My only reservation about going to aluminum would be the wireless reception. My old G4" Aluminum Powerbook got no where near the same reception for wireless as my plastic Macbook.

Doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to know that the notebooks will undergo an update within the next 3 months or so.

Also those of you wishing for a discrete GPU...its NOT going to happen, get real people. A discrete GPU in the MacBook will cannibalize MBP sales. Think about it, if i can get a MacBook with decent GPU/LED screen/fast processor/ ample hard drive for $1299/1499 why in the world would i pony up $2499 for a MBP?

There won't be a discrete GPU. There probably wont even be an aluminium enclosure or backlit KB.

Its probably just gonna be a 2.4/2.5 GHz Processor, 1066MHz FSB, GMA X4500 & LED display update. The End.

Macbook Pro? Sure it's not a 3G version? In all black? Or maybe all white? And renamed the iPhonebook Pro?

Not a day nor business trip goes by that I don't regret selling mine. The air hasn't clicked with me (beautiful but ever so slightly gimmicky), and I seem to find myself gravitating towards ebay at least once a week to browse the current 12" G4 stock.

Still using mine, been working for about 3-4 years, only thing I've updated is the ram (to the max now). Only thing is my charger has broke to the point where I've taped it and it started sparking, took that as I needed a new one. Got that, and I'm still going, my only complaint is I got an after market black one that doesn't have the yellow light, so it always gets pulled out a tiny bit and I don't know. Hoping for a new update before the back to school special.

OMG OMG OMG. I'm so excited. I've been saving for 2 whole summers (part time work) to get my hands on one of these rumored babies! :D

you're at a great stage in life. your post reminded me of the time when i had to struggle and save to get something, and how that added to the excitement and enjoyment. I can afford "the next new thing" now, and i try to remind myself of how lucky i am. But you'll never appreciate a new computer more than the one you're waiting on now. What's the saying, "that which is not dearly earned is not dearly loved"? Or something like that. It's true. So enjoy the waiting, and then the getting.

Mb

all i'm hoping for is that they make a 15.4 inch MacBook. I mean, come on now, i'm tired of the same petite screen. Make the most expensive one a 15.4 inch!

If it's just stainless steel, it might be a bit heavy...

My 12" PB isn't a fingerprint magnet. What are you on about? The white and black plastic is much worse for that.

I think you're missing something... Powerbooks (just like MBPs) are made out of ALUMINUM, not stainless steel. I mean maybe if they use it for some internals it'd be ok, but if its for anything external and it gets as dirty as all the stainless steel kitchen equipment then BAD BAD BAD idea :/

Yes, I think it's just a lot of us, who make the mistake of going over, to say HP, to config a Windows laptop and seeing the option: "Add 128Meg Nvidia Discreet Graphics - 1/2 Price Special! $49" (and this is a LOW END model).

They should give you the choice as an option along with an isight.

Then hook up a Mac Mini and you have an iMac! Seems like a loser to me...

But, since I started saving for a new bike a MacBook Pro has been less tempting and a nice quick MacBook is sounding friendlier to my wallet. I know dedicated GPU is an impossibility, but I should game less anyway so that's a proactive choice. So, if MacBook went LED, multitouch and aluminum I'd definitely buy one. Or, if they do a new MBP I'll just buy the old version at discount.

If they're going to update the macbooks soon, they'd be stupid to not do it at the beginning of June so that they'd have a jump on the education market.

Yep, I'm sure the 80 or so of you will be stoked.

I don't get what the fascination with blu-ray drives is. Sure, you can watch movies, but what else comes on blu-ray? PS3 games aren't going to work.

Agreed, BR might have won the battle against HD-DVD. However it will lose the war to HD online content, HDD and HVD. :)

Scrap BR, don't be foolish and include it :apple:, remember the DVD-RAM situation. ;)

Montevina has the same thermal envelope as Santa Rosa, if not less. Total redesign is not necessary with transition to Centrino 2 platform.

Although I agree with your specs, I believe Apple will redesign the Macbook, but they might not use Aluminum. But again their whole line contain metal and glass, so who knows until they introduce it.

I remember though, there was an Apple laptop sighting, not 9-10 months ago. (Before MBA announcement) I remember some people saw some smaller than MBP laptops, gunsmoke and silver precisely.

I don't buy the argument that macbooks should remain plastic. After all, haven't you seen how dirty/yellow the white macbooks can get and the oil/grease marks on the black macbook? Aluminum would look better and be more environmentally friendly which is really more important.

Yes, just go to an Apple store and look at all the smudges on the MacBooks and compare that to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pros which still look pristine...
