New Powerbook

They're going to release a new line of Powerbook G4s.

It will include a cup-holder for your beer and a remote control to access media on someone else's iMac.

They're calling this app Back Row

And thos who fail to buy these new Powerbooks will be called Back Row Drivers.

Well here's the deal. As you all might recall leaks were getting more and more accurate from thinksecret and appleinsider, and it got to the point where apple was flailing and throwing out lawsuits for websites reporting insider info.

where were the leaks coming from? i don't know. but i do know this: when apple was making its big announcements at macworld expo, wwdc, etc, there were a lot of other people involved to make those conferences work besides apple...and when apple does these media only events...it's very tightly controlled by apple (read the time article about apple..it's all about control)...and so far, there haven't been any day before photo leaks of any products announced at these media only events (barring the two hour before leak of the ipod with video)
i found the time article so interesting, because control is so much the essence of being human. it's what we think we are holding onto.
control is an interesting thing. on one hand it's an illusion. on the other hand you can hold on to that illusion longer by working VERY hard and ALWAYS being prepared..but the more you're like that, the bigger the fall the day when you can't be prepared...some people take that fall and surrender to life and make awakenings, and some people flail, and some people are so willful and dedicated at flailing that they can make themselves successful again (look at martha stewart)...quite a tangent..please ignore ;)

I had to try quoting myself, just to see if it worked. Yup.

I've got my money on the PB "upgrades" being a built in iSight, and a two button mouse....and thats IT.

No proc upgrades, no DDR2, no video, no screens, etc...

And Steve will tout them as the first portable to feature BOTH a built in cam AND two mouse buttons.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had two buttons on the new notebooks, it only would makes sense considering the new Mighty Mouse, Apple is getting into the two button market because that's what Windows users are used to - one less excuse for them not to switch.

i'd rather more standard ram or standard superdrive than built in isight. it would fit peoples needs a lot more. i'm looking to buy a 15incher, my first mac.

but if they add a backlit keyboard to the 12in, i mite be sold :D

If they update them, I'd bet we'd see more RAM, and superdrive as standard (look at new iMac).
Also wouldn't be surprised to see backlit keyboard on 12", considering Apple used to only offer a SMS on powerbook, then they added it to iBooks. Don't know if this logic makes sense but I would think that pattern would lead to a backlit 12" powerbook (assuming of course they keep the 12" - I think they will).

Track pad with 2 buttons, on the new powerbooks I'm calling that right now.
It's been said already as the post following yours said, so I'm gonna call keyboards, mice and screens on all laptops. :p

Tomorrow Apple will be releasing Apple Photo Pro. A shot of the box was already posted a while ago on MacRumors. It will be like iPhoto on steroids rather than a Photoshop competitor for now.

As you can tell with the iPod lineup, Apple wants sets of 2. Two nanos, two ipods. They are stream lining the lineup.

Thus there will be no more 12 in Power Book. Also there will only be 2 Power Mac options available.

The 17 in Powerbook will feature an iSight built in and a higher screen resolution.

This would describe why someone only had the prices for two Powerbooks and 2 powermacs

just returned from some recon work... and I don't have specs... but I do have prices and model numbers...

first, powerbooks... new in the system are 2 powerbooks...

15" is M9969LL/A and 1999
17" is M9970LL/A and 2499

powermacs are...

good...M9590LL/A and 1999
better... M9591LL/A and 2499

looks like the "BEST" version may not be available retail... or it hasn,t made it into inventory yet...

I know its lame without specs... but we are trying to get them later tonight when we can get to the inventory room..

peace out

Sounds like a new Photo related app is also in the cards! :D

My thoughts exactly. Recall the product Adobe has been polling about (seeing if people would prefer to buy something from Apple, they even had a name for it, or Photoshop Elements). Sounds like a match. Would seem odd to introduce new hardware linked to a photography event and nothing related to digital photography!

Dropping the 12" PB sounds drastic (I'm typing on one right now) ...but it does make some sense given that the specs of the 12" iBook have seriously encroached on it's territory.

It would also probably make sense for them to streamline their offerings as they transition to Intel, saving the heavy duty imprrovements for the Powermacs since they are supposed to be the last machines to go Intel.

Ah, my 17" 1.5Ghz PB will hold out until Rev B of the Intel PBs are ready. But I really want a monster Dual G5 for my desk at work...still may get what I'm hoping for.

two button is interesting, thats like 20 years of tradition to break. (well i guess mighty mouse but still.)

The track pad will still be one button, but will be touch sensative for 2 click capabilities.

Won't that cut out the middle user that wants a good laptop? Now there will be a large price gap between the 14" iBook, and the 15" Powerbook. (unless of course they Apple brings the price of 15"ers to the price of 12"ers. yes...please

Probably later in the day we'll have a web stream up? unless this has been confirmed that there will be no webcast whatsoever.
There would have to be one later in the day...Why wouldn't they post one?

I think there will be a photo-related announcement (or why keep the booth secret?) but it may not be one that's exciting outside that field.

There should be at least ONE exciting announcement--probably the PowerMacs.

Alongside that could be some lesser announcements, and I fear PowerBooks may fit that description. The BIG PowerBook news is Intel, and it's too soon for that.

I do NOT however think the 12" PowerBook is going away without something to replace it. If the 12 IS going, then I expect some new compact portable in January at the latest. Maybe a new 12" PB, maybe a 13", maybe something ultraportable and low-end: a new smaller iBook. But SOMETHING to meet the ultracompact market.

If whatever that is is NOT a PowerBook, then maybe the 15" PB will gain a lower-end, cheaper version... or the iBook will gain a higher-end version. Something to fill in the gap of having no low-end 12".

The simplest thing of course would simply be that the 12" is not changing at all :) Or that it IS changing, but wasn't ready for Wednesday. Maybe in a month there will be a new 12" to join its updated siblings.

Likely similar to the last event ... available to the general population several hours after the event. Steve wants as much coverage as possible, but wants the media attendees to feel "special".

It took a few years, but MacWorld NY is back... well uhhh sorta in the form a photography conference. :)

Edit: I say Apple will discontinue the 12" PowerBook, introduce a 13" PowerBook to replace it, and later this week quietly discontinue the 14" iBook.

You are probably right...I hope so. I need something to watch tomarrow while studying for my mid-terms. :p

At least what ever PowerBook is going to be revealed tomorrow, will be the last lame update.

Afterwards, its on to bigger and better - Intel processor - which will enable the PowerBook to catch up with the competition.

PowerMac upgrades are going to be interesting, there is quite a lot of potential for them with the newest G5 processors.

In the near future, I wouldn't be surprised to see a webcam in some of the Apple Displays ( but then, privacy issues may occur, businesses may not want webcams in their offices ). PowerMacs definitely won't contain webcams or FrontRow.
