They sometimes do that so you get a step by step discription of what is going on in there since they are in newyork they cant use a cellphone jammer!!! :)
So they would go to low-bandwidth, that way someone in the event couldn't post step by step comments about what was happening? Or, wait... still confused. Why would low-bandwidth help, unless they didn't want the facts to get out?

Wow, looks like Apple has one of the biggest booths at the show. Nice cad drawing of the floor plan. To bad it was drawn on a windows box.

Who should I be yelling at about the fact that autocad is not available for the mac? Apple or Autodesk?

Just buy VectorWorks instead. I use both AutoCad and VectorWorks, and VectorWorks runs rings around AutoCad. It's not even close as far as productivity goes. Also, you can both import and export in the AutoCad format, so all your lame PC friends can open your docs.

Introducing The All New Apples!

Don't be fooled by the 'natural' look of these new Apples. Each new Apple comes with built in iSight...

I for one am sold on the green ones.

Apparently you've never heard of a little company called Dell? Dell makes laptops. Dell has 1440x900... this is a better dell, sporting "options" I wish Apple would give me "options"

Wide Screen or "Wide-Aspect" is a measure of the ratio of width to height of a screen. Traditional notebook LCDs are a 4:3 aspect ratio, while wide screen LCDs have a wide aspect ratio of 16:10. of the wide screen technology is being able to see more information on screen. The wide aspect 15.4" WXGA screen provides 30% more information than standard aspect ratio 15" XGA screens, and the wide aspect 15.4" WUXGA screen provides 20% more information than standard 15" UXGA screens.

15.4 inch WXGA = 1280 x 800 pixels

15.4 inch Ultra SharpTM WSXGA+ = 1680 x 1050 pixels

15.4 inch Ultra SharpTM WUXGA = 1920 x 1200 pixels

1440x900 = default resolution of 15" widescreen laptops available in the windows world for the last two years.
I work for HP, so I'm quite familiar with the product line. The Pavillion line of notebooks offer models with 15.4" and 17" options. The 15.4" options only come in WXGA. The 17" option comes in 1440x900 (which is called WXGA+), or WSXGA+. The same is true of the Presario line, except that there are no longer any 17" models available there. I also checked the HP Business line. Only the "performance line" offers widescreen displays. They offer WXGA, WSXGA+ and WUXGA on their 15.4" models, just like the nw8240 I'm typing on now is WSXGA+. But nowhere is there a 15" model that offers a WXGA+ panel.

I even checked the Dell website (though now I think I'm going to have to wash my net connection), and I still could not find one single model that offers a WXGA+ 15.4" screen. The closest was WXGA or WSXGA+.

1440x900 wouldn't be the default. If anything, it might be the average.

And, I run the Widescreen Gaming Forum, so I know a bit about widescreens... ;)

in stead of using all these graphics it is a 100% text based site
Then it must be because of an overload problem. I misunderstood, I thought Macrumors actually limited bandwidth (therefore it would take longer to load a page).

I am buying my first mac tomorrow (or as soon as I can get an early xmas present ;) )...a maxed out 15'' PB!! Finally getting rid of my old thinkpad that now turns off when i plug anything into my USB ports! Haha, woohoo!!! :D

Congratulations! You sound like me when I got my iMac about 4 months ago. I waited until the update and then snatched one as soon as I could! :p

Nice Photoshop job, 'cept for one minor detail. Is it just me, or does that touch pad seem to be a bit big compared to the keyboard. Apple gets new patent for ELBOW TOUCH PAD!! :D

Its a built in tablet pad :D

Here's a thought...

I talked with my wife about the swirling MacRumors over dinner, and she had an interesting thought:

iTunes is a content *distribution* system as much as a content-management system.

What if the new iPhoto was similarly linked to Apple's servers, allowing them to get into the stock-photography business? The new iPhoto allows Photographers to not only manage their libraries of images and do minor-retouching, but also to upload their collections (as full size images ready to use) to Apple's iPhoto server-farm (either free or for a modest fee) and then charges commission on all downloads made through their service. The advantage to the photographer is centralized global distribution with high visibility, easy searching, and easy/integrated management with software on their Mac. The advantage to the photoeditor is a great search engine, low cost, high availability, and single provider. The advantage to Apple, is the revenue generated by the service, the fact that every photographer will need a Mac to use it, and even more visibility. Everyone wins.

Whadayathink?

I think with the end of the 12" PB updates coming, we'll eventually see the portable lines combine into one. Since Apple likes the twos lately, you'll see 13, 15, and 17 inch notebooks coming in high and low configurations. It may not happen tomorrow, but down the line, I could see it go down.

I think this Pro Photo thing would need to be free for the idea to be effective. But of course you would need to pay for the picture, just the software would need to be free (as iTunes is).
But I don't think it will happen...Sorry.

Seems to complicated. Isn't the idea of only having products in pairs, to make it simpler?

Why do you say it is too early for a mactel powerbook. They could put a Centrino chip inside...
The current Pentium M is indeed faster than the G4. But especially for pro machines, releasing too early means too little software available. Intwl PBs in January I can see happening, maybe, but not now.

i love this thread.
funny.
my guess is a 20mio. pixel build-in pro-isight in the pb to shot real pro-pics. :D

Agreed. I think Apple will wait a little longer, atleast until 2006, that way it won't be a surprise for software companies. These companies know the deadline is sometime in 2006 (I forget when), and probably have it in their schedule to have it done by a certain date. Releasing them now would mess everything up.

If true, sounds a possibility of shooting yourself in the foot with your biggest software supplier (outside of yourself ... hmmm) ... maybe not so dumb afterall. :D

Microsoft has released some photo editing software that is pretty robust and competes with Photoshop Elements but I doubt Adobe cares. Same goes for Apple. There is no way Apple can compete with Photoshop CS. Not yet, not for several iterations of software releases.
