If true, sounds a possibility of shooting yourself in the foot with your biggest software supplier (outside of yourself ... hmmm) ... maybe not so dumb afterall. :D
Wasn't Adobe Premiere once the only Video Editing Software for the Mac? So they already did it once! Photo is the only missing Pro Application! After that the only thing missing is an Excel type application to replace Microsoft Office entirely although i am not sure that Pages etc. is really a hit yet.

I talked with my wife about the swirling MacRumors over dinner, and she had an interesting thought:

iTunes is a content *distribution* system as much as a content-management system.

What if the new iPhoto was similarly linked to Apple's servers, allowing them to get into the stock-photography business? The new iPhoto allows Photographers to not only manage their libraries of images and do minor-retouching, but also to upload their collections (as full size images ready to use) to Apple's iPhoto server-farm (either free or for a modest fee) and then charges commission on all downloads made through their service. The advantage to the photographer is centralized global distribution with high visibility, easy searching, and easy/integrated management with software on their Mac. The advantage to the photoeditor is a great search engine, low cost, high availability, and single provider. The advantage to Apple, is the revenue generated by the service, the fact that every photographer will need a Mac to use it, and even more visibility. Everyone wins.

Whadayathink?
Interesting thought.

Mac Mini Center

Did you guys pick up that in Germany the CEO from Elgato (manufacturer of TV-cards for MAC) is now the new boss for Apple Germany --> acquisition?. Will this be the next big thing --> Mac Mini Media Center with TV functionality --> see you in two weeks?

Same here, sounds great. With the Software alone who would care and switch from Photoshop, must be something more than just a Pro Photo application. Strange that the new Tiger build is not out yet, must be some functionality in there which they will only bring out today.

Pro Photo

I know that I am not the only one who believes that this

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/

will be the base for the new extremely powerful PRO app. that Apple is going to ship tomorrow.

But I am surprised that there is not more conversation about it?

We will see CI made into a full blown application that will have very high hardware requirements: this the PRO designation, but that may or may not tie into a photo, or image STORE that is available for Graphic Design, and Photo, selling these royalty free to submitters and buyers.

my 2cents :)

I'm not sure if anyone made this point already, but it seems to me strange that the media have been invited to a special event at the same time Apple have a big space at the Photo expo.

Assume there are only small upgrades to the pro computer line -> why have space at the expo?

Alternatively, assume there is a new pro software product like PhotoPro -> why invite the media since the booth at the expo will probably attract enough attention?

I think (like a lot of people posting) that there is something really different about to be released that has to do with Photos but is also attractive to the general public. PhotoPro doesn't seem to fit the bill to me. But I'm probably wrong... :(

In order for PhotoPro to be successful:

PhotoPro Interface > Pages

As long as this app takes the shape of most other Apple designed applications, it should be okay. But if the people who wrote pages have anything to do with it, we'll have a flop.

As a professional photographer, I am interested in seeing what is being offerred. I already use Photoshop CS, so it had better be something different, cheaper, easier, or damn good in order to get me to switch over.

Who knows? It will probably be something that nobody saw coming. We'll never knew we needed this new product until we see it tomorrow.

or.....

We'll have dual dual core Powermacs with the great Powerbook Dump of 2005 and that will be about it. The camera lens on the invite was just to get people to come.

Just one more sleep and it will be over for me. Not sure if I will get much sleep tonite, for some reason excited even though I won't be getting one. Still I guess its quite a sizeable step forward if the rumors are to go by, and they are usually.

I guess this is me signing off for the nite. Will see you all tomorow as we grapple for precious tid bits of information that have some how been wrangled out of the conference and broadcast.

new laptops

my prediction is:
ibook 14" replaced by an ibook 15" white with current powerbook specs
pbook gets 7448 chips with HD, 12" discontinued.

hoping...

Someone said the teaser involved black and a camera lens...

Maybe, I don't think anyone's suggested this, since we're at the photography convention, possibly...

The return of the Quicktake?

Perhaps the innards of the iPod with an integrated upgraded iSight? I know I'm sorta talking crap, but it'd be completely unexpected. Any thoughts? I know the iSight's resolution as it is now isn't exactly SLR grade, it was just an example.

Liquid Nitrogen's no good, you want either liquid Sodium or liquid Helium.

I don't want one with only 4GB or VRAM, that's not gonna run Doom 4.

lots of pieces to put together

Dslr's (a few) now have wireless capabilities (Bonjour)
ColorSync
Tethering (Bonjour, Image Import)
Lens correction (Core Image)
RAW acceleration (Core Image, multithread)
Workflows (Automator, AppleScript)
Filters (Core Image, multithread)
Slideshows (Core Video, Quicktime, h.264, iPod)
Cataloging (Spotlight/Smart Folders)
Event (.mac Pro for event photo display, itunes store for print purchase)
iPod photo connect Pro (flash card reader)
PictBridge to iPod (storage, display)

Throw in dual duo PowerMac and PowerBook Duo, and you would have quite a nice Photography solution.

Not saying what's going to happen, but, Apple has a lot of excellent technology to offer Photographers if they could integrate it, and I suspect that PhotoPro will offer a lot of what I outlined, in some form or another.

More to the point, why am I up at 1:18 PDT looking for new clues?

Extremely big mousepad compared to the keyboard.

But still funny ;)

I've got a question here:
Has anybody seen the invitation Apple sent last week for todays pro-event? Rumor has it that it shows a "jet-black" card with a camera lens...

The invitations for both the Nano as the One More Thing event roamed around the internet in no-time, but I haven't caught a glance of today's one!

Anyone seen it? Please post it... I'm so curious!!!

Cheers

Your right about everything... except the Processor is a brand-new, ultra-fast, 1.7 Ghz G4 Processor. Oh yeah! Now that's fast...

Appleinsider calls it a "very exclusive digital invite." Hmmm...the plot thickens. I like the idea of a tablet-like device. Excuse my ignorance (my digital photo touch-up skills are limited to Photo Studio) but how important are tablets to this industry? Perhaps Apple has finally figured out a way to make them a hit product.

I guess a mouse would fit there... but it's supposed to be a trackpad. When you scroll with both palms, the lid/screen closes crushing your arms, so be careful.

I would love for the entire "below keyboard" area, as in the large expanse of silver plastic - to be a trackpad if desired (changable in sys prefs). Would be completely sweet, make good use of that huge amount of area.

I'm a big apple fan but I believe it. apple ran out of small developers to push off their platform... why not go to the big time. exclusivity is apples down fall.

1 year from now, mac wearhouse will be 4 pages of mac products and belkin ipod accessories.

A 50'' PB would be about as tall as me. (Not sure about PB dimensions, so not sure if the horizontal length of the PB would be greater than 67'' assuming a 50'' diagonal screen...)
I would guess that the only way the horizontal length is going to exceed the diagonal length would be if Apple released a PB with a triangular screen.

Or I guess a rhombus/parallelogram would fit for one of the horizontals anyway... :)

Or a tridimensional screen - Cube is back!

A camera with itunes?

I think more like a Wacom tablet with a good LCD screen behind it, so you can work with photos directly on the tablet. One with the same stylus and general interaction as an Intuos, but with an LCD display behind the textured drawing surface (a fair distance behind a protective layer).
