100% agree. And Apple is the only company in this position — the control they have has paid and will continue to pay dividends well into the future. And what happens when more and more processing happens on device instead of in the cloud, and practical use cases turn out to be rather simple? I think Apple has effectively changed the narrative around AI and how it will be used by most people.
People like to discount this, but Apple's business model of selling hardware to fund their initiatives really does allow them as a company to do things no other company can. Not because of things like good vs evil, but the *mechanics* of how software based companies work.

Some shares may well proved to be overpriced, but I personally won't be shorting NVIDIA right now. They are struggling to keep up with incredible industry demand. Compute is seen as the big limitation on our progress in AI, so demand should only keep increasing in the foreseeable future for NVIDIA products.

Whether individuals such as you and your friends choose to use AI or not doesn't really matter. The bigger picture is AI will be everywhere, replacing people, increasing output, improving scientific research, reducing costs and potentially prices for consumers. Only the individuals with AI skills may still have some employment.
They're in for a big surprise when the model decay and the fact that we're out of real data to scrape and analyze from the internet actually hit. There's not much runway left and the plane isn't going to hit the speed required for takeoff...

I think you'll find once the dust has settled that Wall Street will not expect *profit* from AI in the industry. It's years away from recouping the capital costs the likes of Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft have pumped into it with no better suggestions than "people will surely pay for this" (hint: no, at scale they absolutely will not. Our MS reps are getting desperate in trying to foist it onto subscribers to the point I genuinely feel bad for them).

Meta is just tossing billions at it and wanting to let anyone use it. Google is doing their own. Apple as well. Open AI. The list goes on. There will be winners and losers.

And in all of that I don’t really have any desire for any of it personally. I don’t need to ask Siri about picking up my mom at the airport and knowing where her favorite food place is.

I asked Siri just what’s the weather in another city. It answers. I don’t get the appeal of what we just saw yesterday. I get that it has the cool looking light at the edges. But I’ll believe Siri can play my music with no problems when I see it. Or won’t try to hand off everything to “the web “ or now ChatGPT.

I don’t need or want to rewrite or compose emails with ChatGPT. It lacks a personal touch. If it sounds AI generated then you’re not going to impress anyone with it.

One skill very high in demand will be AI supervisor. A person who checks AI output for stupid mistakes and corrects them 😂.

We have them already. The college grads. New staff. Go check this. lol.

Oh I don't need any of this stuff personally. None of my devices will even run it (13 mini, iPad mini 5, 2015 13" MBP). BUT given I'm likely going to be diagnosed with ADHD sometime in the next year, the recalling of committments from wherever you made them (text, email, notes, calendar) is actually an example of a feature that WOULD make my life more manageable.

Always, always, always.

Perhaps it will take Apple fans using some "AI" to finally learn some basic pattern recognition. It doesn't matter what is announced, the immediate impact on Apple stock is always a dip after an event.

oldest equation in the world 'buy on rumor sell on news'

Data available only ever increases, but that's not necessarily a good thing if much of it is feeding on trash from social media sites. A big challenge is getting down to using only the most qualitative data for each model.

That would be interesting. Hey siri what was that stock my brother was talking about during Xmas a couple of years ago.

I’m not thinking it’ll be that easy. We’ll see.

Everyone is turning to synthetic data, which will only accelerate model decay.

Hence the big push from MS to generate more human data, masked behind a feature called Recall 😉

The bubble has another year in it, but it’s going to burst and hopefully only the actual useful stuff will be left standing.

Given Apple Intelligence is about YOU, I think it’s the first “AI” paradigm that might actually be useful to normal people. Specifically because they don’t actually have to think about using it.

I don’t even mean that, I live in perpetual fear that I’ve forgotten about plans I’ve made a couple weeks back with people I don’t talk to much. Or the line of friends oil changes I always have lined up, or family events I may have glanced at in passing.

I don’t have the discipline to live by a calendar, because the hardest part for me is remembering to get them in there in the first place.

Intelligence, in this regard, would actually greatly benefit me. Unfortunately until a normal sized iPhone comes to the market again, Apple can kiss my ass 😂

Apple hit it out of the park IF everything works as advertised, but I doubt they would show anything that didn't work as advertised because Wall Street will crush it doesn't.
If anyone wanted more, then they do not understand the current state of AI. AI Interpretability research has to move forward by a magnitude for a consumer company like Apple to entrust it with sensitive personal data. Apple walked a fine line. Apple knows what it's doing.

Investors mindlessly chasing AI buzzword… another day in idiocracy.

We had smart fridges. Now we will have AI fridges and they will be about just as useful…

It’s all funny and good entertainment but I wonder what happens when we will run out of the ideas to sell and low hanging fruits to reap. Can the economy run without buzzwords and exaggerated ‘breakthroughs’ ? Because if not then it is merely a mass hallucination.

Yeah I'm very excited about Apple's personal intelligence approach. It will make AI more approachable and useful for normies. Opening it all up to third-party developers will make iOS/iPadOS/macOS the most vibrant platforms to build AI technology into new and existing applications.

I'm scratching my head. The announcement of Apple's Inteligence suite was made early Monday morning with zero reaction from the stock market. Now Tuesday morning, shark-eyed investors wake up and magically find out about Apple's announcements? Is the stock market really that slow to react to such a thing?

This spirit of this post has been in rinse/repeat, "fill in the blanks" from countless people for 30+ years. Meanwhile, those of us that have been buying AAPL over that arc of time, even in modest amounts, are largely unaffected by economic swings. Being a fan of Apple products and/or Apple as a company doesn't necessarily mean you have zero criticisms of the company. Personally, I'm grateful for the incredible returns of the stock over the years. I do wish the shareholder meetings would return to in-person...

Apple under Jobs: Stay hungry, stay foolish.
Apple under Cook: Stay greedy, stay bullish.

They are pull out all stops on their massive buyback.
