Yet, they say their products are not only for "rich" people. LOL. But, we the consumers are responsible for them to charge anything they want since we are going to buy it just because it says Apple. SMH.

Do we know the dimensions of it and how many devices it can fit? $200 sounds obscene at first glance....unless it could fit and charge two iphones and two apple watches.

That saves me from having to use four outlets for the same task. And it saves me from having to spend $60 on two separate wireless charges. If I can lay four devices down at night and wake up to them charged in the morning, and do it all from a single cable and outlet then yeah, I'll pay $200 for that convenience.

If it can fast charge every accessories at the same time, 199$ is a must have gadget for those who has always charging 1-2 iphones or apple watch etc

Given it's plugged into the mains, why not just connect the 2 phones with lighting cable? I see the value and convinence of a £20 "wireless" charger , but at £200 I want true wireless and not just a ripoff .

The great think about the £20 setup I had , between home and office it was £40, with Apple £400.....Come on..... just plug in the cable ;)

I really, really should start making a list of all the things like this you must bend over for to be an apple walled-garden non-scaler.

"Must"? Sorry, there is NO accessory that one must-buy from Apple and PLENTY of inexpensive 3rd party options.

In 10 years of owning an iPhone, 7 years of owning an iPad I've never bought a single Apple branded case or other accessory except for the Pencil, which is unique. Yet, I always have a case on my devices, own tons of Lightning cables, a couple BT keyboards, and just bought (shriek!) a Samsung Qi charger for my X. As noted tech reviewer Harry McCraken once wrote, it's a walled garden, not a prison. We can come and go as we please.

So sorry to bust your myth, but you probably already knew all that and just like to troll.

That is, if you've overspent on your phone, overspent on your watch and overspent on your earbuds.
Apples a luxury brand and always has been. Like any higher end product (cars for example) there are markups just because. Sure 199 is high. But so is 1000 for a smart phone. Get over it , move on. Get a cheaper wireless charger.

But since average Joe can get an iPhone on a payment plan of $25 per month there’s this ILLUSION over the last few years. Stop being shocked that Apple marks up their products. Do you expect a Mercedes to be 20k???

Well they charge £75 for the Apple Watch charger that is free with the Ceramic so I wouldn't put it past them.

What is with all the surprise? This is exactly what I pegged the cost as when it was first announced.

There is no "comparable" product in existence. This charges 3 items. 2 of which can't be charged by any other Qi charger.

I've been expecting this to cost between $149 and $199.

If you don't need it or can't afford it, don't buy it. You don't hear people complaining about the price of a Ferrari.

I would agree with you if it was unique like a Ferrari. But at it's heart its just a large Qi charging pad. It's not worth $199 unless it's going to charge my devices in 0 to 60 seconds.

how is this different than other dual charging mats?

can this charge as many as can fit on the mat? do the others not show charging of multiple devices on the iPhone?
curious what makes this one different, other than Apple-made

From the brief keynote description and press photos, it appears that unlike other mats that have specific locations that you lay the phone on (and if you don't get it right it doesn't work) in order to charge, this one is just one big ass mat that will charge anything anywhere you lay on it. I'd like to know how many total you can do as well. Clearly we can do three, but can we do four if they'll fit?

That's absolutely crazy, but, believable.
What's unbelievable is that neither the iPhone X or the new iPad Pro comes with anything for fast charging. Errr, on second thought...that's also believable. o_O

it takes roughly 3 seconds to find the lightning cord end, and plug in...another .5 seconds to unplug (dropping the cable) so...if you charge your phone two times a day...you just gained yourself 7 SECONDS! think about what you could do in that amount of time and relish in it.

BUT DUDE IT ADDS UP!

7 seconds X 365 days = 42 minutes a year.

Unless you make $200/hr, this is quite literally not worth it at $200 when using the time-saving value proposition. It's a neat gizmo, that's it.

Why is anyone on this forum surprised? You guys enable this pricing behaviour. Just look at your iPhone X order confirmations...

yeah cause a Qi Chinese made mat and Ferrari have so much in common ;) give it a rest with those ridiculous analogies ....

Suggest you read up on Ferrari history / heritage to understand why you cannot ever compare an apple product to a Ferrari.

Well..... you also have to factor in the times you have to re-adjust the placement on the mat when you don't get a good connection ... :)

You are correct. It's the consumer who votes.

I would not worry about pre-orders , they were always going to sell out, the question will be 1H sales 2018, let's see how people respond to Tim CooKs iphone ....

This is a very great sales price.

Production cost should be around $4 in China, just a little bit of electronics plus cheap injection moulding.
Very good profit, us shareholders will be very happy.
Consumers will buy this for $199 anyways, so no problem.
Almost as good as those 2m long $35 fast charging cables they sell.

Apple's upcoming AirPower wireless charging mat has recently appeared on Polish online retailer X-Kom's website for 999 Zlotych, and while it can't be purchased yet, the listing may be a clue about how much the accessory will cost stateside.

airpower.jpg

As noted by Polish blog ThinkApple, many products that cost 999 Zlotych on Apple's online store in Poland are priced at $199 in the United States. Bose's SoundLink speaker, for example, is 999 Zlotych in Poland and $199.95 in the United States.

Similarly, the iPod touch with 32GB of storage costs 990 Zlotych in Poland and $199 in the United States on Apple's website.

What we don't know is if the price X-Kom lists for the AirPower is simply a placeholder, or if Apple will charge the same amount. Apple's pricing is often consistent with third-party retailers, but not always, and currency exchange rates fluctuate.

AirPower is an oval-shaped charging mat that can inductively charge multiple Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and Apple Watch Series 3 models. It will also work with Apple's upcoming wireless AirPods charging case.

The mat's ability to charge multiple devices will be achieved with a propriety technology being developed by Apple. Apple said it will work to have its technology become part of the universal Qi standard supported by the latest iPhones.

Apple said AirPower will be released in 2018, but it hasn't provided a more specific release date yet.

Loving it it. Keep making me richer, Apple.

As a user of a phone case with a slot for credit cards on the back, wireless charging is unfortunately off limits to me.

Wow. I think mine was around $25, about 5 years ago... Inflation sure is a b****!
Oh, does yours charge multiple devices at once?

I don’t get the point of comparing the price of a basic Qi charger to the one that Apple is releasing. Unless the other charger also charges three devices simultaneously, it’s not the same thing.

Do you not think the benefit of going through a lot less lightning cables (mine go bad so quick) since they arent getting pougged in and unplugged any more is a benefit. Just food for thought...
