If true, the choice is very easy. Wait for a third party alternative which also handels three devices.

I am not surprised.so itll be like 229-249 cdn. Right now the tiny pads cost 79.99, ths can charge 3 devices ( or maybe 2 iphones) plus you add the apple factor and maybe it will charge faster who knows. but no one should be shocked that that is the price

Then don't buy it. Go on with life. But why waste your time complaining about something your complaints will have zero impact on? It won't cause Apple to suddenly drop their price.

You're getting upset about the questionable claims of a single random guess.

I hear the next iPhone X2 will cost $5478095428032840932. OMG I'M SO UPSET! THERE'S NO WAY THEY'LL SELL!!!! WHAT IN THE WORLD IS APPLE THINKIN!?!?!? THEY'RE SO DOOMED!!!!!!!

You didn't bother listening to the Keynote. Apple is actually looking to change the Qi standard to implement their setup. So it will have a different "engine" than the other offerings currently on the market.

Qi is that standard. They are not changing the standard. They are adopting to that standard. Changing the standard would make it their own proprietary standard. And they wouldn't call it Qi anymore. They might be developing things that will use the Qi standard to charge 3 devices, but they are not changing the standard.

Yea, i dont buy Apple cables either. But even at Monoprice you are looking at almost $7 per cable. My issue is that people keep talking about the charging pad as if the time not spent plugging it in is the only benefit, and its not. If my wife and i have three devices sitting there charging, thats three different cables we dont have to have. And since they tend to go bad on us every 3-4 months, that starts to add up fast. And then there is having a lot less clutter.. we dont need three charging blocks/cables plugged into the wall with cables all over. Much simpler.
And the best part of all is since this is an open standard, we dont need to go Apple.
P.S. Macally keyboards suck. My space bar/key is gone amuck.

I'm sorry, i dont see where they are charging 2-3 times more. Can you please provide a link to their pricing?

I'm basing my assumptions by the provided article stating that Apple plans to charge $199 for a wireless charger. Whereas right now you are able to purchase 3rd party wireless chargers anywhere from $15-50(although 1 device per charger unless i'm mistaken).

But as you stated if it fills a need IE. less clutter on a desk. Then it maybe worth it to some. I'm hoping as some have mentioned that it may not be the final price point. I would love the convenience of being able to charge my iWatch and iPhone X simultaneously...but at $199 i might be a little hesitant.

Hope these work like magic, because I will be buying 3 of them. At least.

This is going to be a huge money maker for Apple.

I really hope it's not true.
that's simply outrageous and there is no way anyone can justify that price for a freaking charging pad.
the maximum price should be $99 and the's because its Apple brand, otherwise these thing go for much less..like $25-$50..

From the brief keynote description and press photos, it appears that unlike other mats that have specific locations that you lay the phone on (and if you don't get it right it doesn't work) in order to charge, this one is just one big ass mat that will charge anything anywhere you lay on it. I'd like to know how many total you can do as well. Clearly we can do three, but can we do four if they'll fit?
I'm not buying into wireless charging myself, but I can't believe it took 5 pages of comments until someone pointed out that Apple is positioning this as an improved design charging mat that allows the flexibilty that randomplaydo describes. If you are interested in wireless charging, then you may or may not find the features offered by Apple's new AirPower system to be worth the high price.

My prediction - $129. Just seems to be expensive enough for Apple but not super cheap either. I'd still not buy it. Samsung does make some pretty good Qi chargers (albeit only for the phone) that you can get the Fast charge models for around $20 if you look.

That's strange as the Qi standard doesn't support it. Apple has said they're working to get the standard updated in order to release the AirPower.

Until that happens, anything charging multiple devices is outside the standard and may damage your device. I certainly wouldn't risk it with an expensive electronic device.

So then Apple's device technically is in the same boat with Qi not supporting it. You need to just stop moving the goal posts here.

Apple has really lost the plot with their accessory prices. This electrical mat could cost more than AirPods? Really? - Makes no sense.
